I found a great freight run on BSR: DGS (41831) München Riem Ubf to Triest Campo Marzio at 22:57. However, when you spawn directly into the service you get an instant SPAD. So, you can spawn on foot at Rosenheim at 22:55. Head left over to platform 5 and then take another left to walk east to the end of the platform at 5G. At 22:57, your loco arrives. It will likely be a 185, but you can spawn multiple times until you get what you want; you will want something you are comfortable handing. You are in a line of freights headed east in the late evening. You will encounter adverse signals during the run and handling the speed variations on the grades will be challenging. When I plug the train into the noir 's freight calculator: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...culator-for-german-content.75134/#post-827482 I get a max speed of 105. So you can run at the 100 limit on the route.
Fully cognizant that I am asking for uncompensated labor, but if someone is willing to create a chart showing the max speed and brake/PZB settings for all of the German freight services, that’d be great.
Many people are thinking about it including myself, but it is currently not technically feasible. There is no known way how to extract the timetable and consist data from the game so somebody would have to load into every single service in the game and calculate it manually, and there are high thousands of them if not more. For Dresden - Chemnitz trains, you can use OpenMinded's timetable where they put that kind of effort in, but that is a route with rather sparse timetable and it is unlikely that anybody would invest such time again into any other route. If you are willing to do so, my calculator is all you need for it Perhaps the announced API will make it easier in some way, but we don't know yet. (Let's not derail this thread, if you would like to continue discussion, please make a separate thread for it and just tag me there.)
Fwiw: I am keeping track of (brake) weights & lengths and the resulting pzb, speed and brake settings for the freight services of my MSB timetable and plan to release an Excel file that lets you select your service and provides you with an overview of speed limits etc., I might provide a Buchfahrplan style worksheet too, but it's a bit more condensed for now so it fits on one A4 page. As noir says, this is a very large job to do if you don't have access to the timetable source files so it will depend on people doing this for individual routes and timetables.
Been enjoying running through the services from the list since the TSW2 days. I have come up for myself with the challenge to run through all the ones I own the DLCs for, which gonna take quite a while. Have a few ideas how to track my progress, some quite straightforward such as maintaining a sheet for myself and marking the ones I complete, however my software dev brain is not letting it happen so easily. I am looking into creating a small app that can fetch the services from the sheets and track your progress, and maaaybe even have a randomizer for some added fun. If I get to anything remotely usable I will happily share it with the community thereafter. I have understood that JustWentSouth is still the maintainer of the spreadsheets on Google Drive. Looking at how I could directly integrate the data I have run into the issue that Google does not allow API access to files which are Microsoft Excel formatted. I created a shapshot and converted to Google Sheets format which is supported and works great. The only other option would be to have the sheets also published as CSV, currently the published version is only the HTML, which is great for understanding it in the browser but horrible to process the tables from within it. I appreciate your efforts in creating and maintaining this list and looking forward to having your point of view on the suggestions above. Gonna work with what is available for now.
My first nomination (but not last i'm sure) from Semmeringbahn. DG 54507 Vien Zvbf-Villach Sud, Pts 1 and 2 08:09 (part 1) 08:49 (part 2), begins in Gloggnitz This is a heavy (1500t) manifest freight pulled by 2x Vectrons (or Taurus if you prefer) over the full route. I kept it slow (max 70kph) and it's a nice way to enjoy the scenery and AI trains. You might have to wait a few minutes at Gloggnitz depending on how slow you drive. Not gonna spam pics here but i'll post more in the feedback thread
It is fantastic that you are working your way through this list. I am grateful to those who contribute and I have enjoyed compiling the spreadsheets. It is always nice to hear that people are using it to better enjoy TSW. Thank you! I am not at all computer or spreadsheet savvy- I am totally into Apple (forgive me!) and only own a PC to run TSW. I don't even have a PC copy of Microsoft Office. However, I have learned a bit since LeadCatcher and Callum B. got the original spreadsheets going. I am happy to do whatever I can to help you with this project including directly send you a copy or add you as an editor. I do update the sheets and then share them in two different formats if that helps: Google Published Documents: TSW3&4 Recommended Service Runs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...4lUuBrw-k2_y7FxuzH6mZ1m3Qu4YTfLViTfxQ/pubhtml TSW Compatible Recommended Service Runs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet..._wzt7qTCooxSTBW8pGAwYLs_ohsdDOcQOuZ4A/pubhtml Chaos Runs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...yCTbHVZrwBSBUUkPiiJGlTWfRXexfPn7kBVDw/pubhtml Excel Spreadsheets: TSW3&4 Recommended Service Runs https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...ouid=108028767534258522758&rtpof=true&sd=true TSW Compatible Recommended Service Runs https://drive.google.com/file/d/14YgilvnKZFc7TJXyqftRJ0I5yTMlMf81/view?usp=sharing Chaos Runs https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cMKrwNA2OmZz8tVEQo1_FZnRZXpNT463/view?usp=sharing The idea of having a "Journey Mode" of these runs or a randomizer is very intriguing. Perhaps it could be selectable by route, country, loco, or type of service. Thanks again and happy to help!
That was nice! I had a snowstorm heading up to Semmering that made it difficult to maintain speed on the steepest part of the grade. Also, had then some tricky train handling headed down. Like you, I suspect there are more great runs from the route coming from this route.
I’m enjoying this quite a bit. Run during a snowstorm for maximum fun. Regarding speed, keep in mind that freight timetables are 20kph below passenger timetables for line speeds at 80kph or above. So you should run the mountain section at 60 except for the part where line speed drops to 50.
Yep, and this rule generally applies throughout Germany and Austria (though you have to check the individual Buchfaplane to confirm). It’s particularly a challenge on Linke Rheinstrecke where the speed constantly changes. As a general rule: Line speed | Freight vmax 0-60 | Line speed 60-80 | 60 80-140 | 20kph below line speed 140+ l 120 Note that the 120 freight speed is only valid on certain routes and then of course only if your train weight allows. Otherwise freight vmax is 100.
I have heared about this rule for usually two instances and none of them I would classify as "general rule". 1) When a fright train flows with the "slower" passenger traffic, which needs to constantly stop at stations. This should not be part of the "Fahrplan" (called "ZLR Nachfahren, ZLR = Zuglaufregelung). 2) Line with steep gradients, where BrH is not high enough to allow line speed. This is indicated in the Fahrplan for a specific section of the track. I would be really interested to learn where this is written in a Richtlinie, as I have never come this across before and am obviously not a real world train driver myself. (Sorry for OT, we may exchange PM as well but thought it may be interesting for others as well)
A nice ECS run on Semmeringbahn: CJX9 (2914) Empty Stock move Wiener-Neustadt to Payerbach-Reichenau at 07:33 with the 4024 Spoiler: Spoiler You wait for a freight to clear and then chase it up the hill. There is a platform wait at Payerback-Riechenau. Run it in January for a nice sunrise. If you want to make it a turn, you have about 20 minutes before the passenger service heads back to Wiener-Neustadt - that's a fairly routine run.
A very nice one on Semmering: EC 107 Wien-Trieste. Even better if (as in Journey) you run it in light snow. This really shows off the route's nice night lighting and the Taurus' excellent headlights; in any conditions it puts you behind a stopper, with a festival of adverse lights and a PZB workout.
Here's a good one on the new LIRR Commuter route. Take Train #3 from Babylon to NY Penn station on a night run. It's a bit of an express service, calling only at Jamaica, Woodside and NY Penn before going to West Side yard. There are plenty of inderesing code drops before merging onto the main line before Jamaica, where you get to parallel another service where you get a SPAD opportunity too. Pretty much regular running from Jamaica to Penn.
Found a nice little challenge on Semmeringbahn. I am usually not the biggest fan of the BR103, nevertheless, I wanted to have a bit of a challenge on this route, hence I chose the only service available and found something quite remarkable happening if you time it right. Your Service would usually leave at 14:54 from Mürzuschlag heading towards Semmering. You should wait until exactly 14:57 until you depart Spoiler: Spoiler At around your actual 9departure time you will see a freight consist pull up into one of the platforms left of you. This train happens to leave at exactly 14:57 as well. The nice thing here is that this freight train actually stays on the left hand track all the way up to Semmering. So, you have the challenge to keep up with this AI train and can enjoy views like this: Anyway, once you reach Semmering the freight train waits for you, as it will be routed over to your track after you have passed. The rest of the journey was quite eventless, however, it is quite a challenge to drive the 103 on this mountainous route. The whole service was quite enjoyable. Have fun!
Tbh, you would probably get used to it when driving it a second time or more. I think the challenge comes simply from the fact that I have never driven a tab changer on this route before. Also, the part after Semmering you will find that the elec brake is not strong enough below 60kph to keep the train at 50. When lowering air in the brake pipe you slow down too much. So, quite a new experience, indeed...
How strong is the independent brake? -------------------------- Of course, the 103 was never designed to run routes like that. The Swiss tap-changers have absolutely massive electric brakes. I did find this: THYRISTOR-CONTROLLED RHEOSTATIC BRAKING FOR THE SERIES 1042 LOCOMOTIVES OF AUSTRIAN FEDERAL RAILWAYS (OBB) Over 100 series 1042 locomotives of the Austrian Federal Railways are equipped with thyristor-controlled rheostatic braking which provides virtually constant braking effort over a wide speed range. Features of the equipment include simplicity and reliability. Apparently the 1042/44 series were used on the route from the early '60s. I would guess they got whopping great dynamic brakes, since the 1042s were ordered precisely for use in mountains. Before that it wasn't electrified and they used diesel railcars, or steam (gack!)
Here's another good one on the LIRR Commuter: take Train 3802 from NY Penn to Long Beach. This is an express service, calling only at Long beach. It's a smooth ride from Penn to Jamaica. After Jamaica you get popped over to the Long Beach branch where you get to take an unusual path due to not stopping anywhere on the branch. After the first couple of stations you catch up to a stopping service which you get to follow all the way to Long Beach for an ATC workout, with a little surprise. Spoiler: The little surprise Note that there's a weird stop at order before the final station before Long Beach. I failed this stop order and there was a lot of time left before Long Beach so I kept on going only to realize that I was probably supposed to wait for the oncoming service out of Long Beach, so I couldn't actually complete this service because we ended up with a conflict at Long Beach platform 3. Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/cbOJopz
I really enjoyed this! The 103 on that route is quite a challenge. Also, Spoiler: Spoiler I stayed parallel to slightly behind the freight on the way up the hill just to hear the engine and track noise of the train beside me. The freight got dispatched ahead of me and I had a red light in the tunnel just before Semmeringbahn. …. Awesome!
LIRR Commuter (M9) Train #27 Babylon-Atlantic Terminal Brooklyn Short-ish run starting at Lynbrook , took me via St Albans line with a stop at Jamaica, and another stop that confused me slightly- maybe someone here knows what it's about?
You are probably referring to Bolands landing. The Morris Park Facility is a maintenance facility of the Long Island Rail Road in Queens, New York City. It includes two employee-only side platforms on the Atlantic Branch named Boland's Landing. Hope this information helps
This service I probably have recommended to many players but here it is service 2303 M7 is probably my favorite so far. I know it says to depart at 706am, just wait two minutes and depart at 708am . It will be worth it and you will still arrive at Jamaica on time. don't want to spoil to much but highly recommend it. (race, race)
This serviced from the stream is one I recommend for short service, lots of action for 3:40am. service 2804- 337am Jamaica to Far rockaway this is the one I suggest short 15 minute service but with numerous AI trains for 3:30a. Recommend driving with fog
By no means perfect, I'm sure. But I found this a while ago (admittedly don't remember where from, may have been here or another forum). But I've tended to work from it.
that's a pretty easy and quick one that generally works. if you want it more detailed use Noir's freight calculator
Having so much fun on the LIRR Commuter that I keep coming back for more. Take Train 2825 from Far Rockaway to NY Penn with the M7. Expect smooth running until Jamaica where an M9 service waits for you to pass. Shortly after leaving Jamaica you will soon catch up to some traffic for an interesting ATC workout. Before Woodside an M9 service catches up with you which you get to race into the station where you get code dropped again for traffic. Keep following the service ahead all the way until the tunnels where the dispatcher routes you through the south tunnel which is kinda rare IMO. Honestly I feel like every other service on the new LIRR offers something unique and interesting. This is slowly becoming my favorite DLC and I own quite a few of them.
A nice run! I think the stop was where it was so that you wouldn't block the grade crossing beyond the platform ahead.
This is actually a scenario so technically doesn't count for this thread, but it's a lot of fun. Night Change. A Vectron scenario oddly set not on Riesa-Dresden, but Vorarlberg (an underrated route). Some adverse signals as you duck priority traffic, but really a chance to work with all of the Taurus' systems, and in the second half of the run show off its great headlights. (Remember to set up Austrian current instead of the default German!)
Hard to go wrong with the Vectron on Vorarlberg - and, despite the title, scenarios count on this thread!
Wow! I am stunned with how excellent that was, a GOAT experience for me. Waiting the two minutes added so much to a run that was already good. So much congestion at Jamaica: trains behind, beside, and in front of you not clear at a crossover.
Thanks so much for the recommendation- fantastic run! You seem to have a lot of info about this route- not sure if you were part of the development- if so, thanks- it's quickly become one of my top routes! Have to agree with the GOAT nomination. Not sure if anyone from DTG follows this thread but these are the kind of experiences i love in TSW- more please!! Edit: So, if you have NY-Trenton (especially with Acela), i'd also recommend: Amtrak Northeast Regional #185 NY Penn-Roanoke 08:09 Not sure how dynamic the platform assignments are, but for me this train leaves NYP on Platform 13, which was just occupied by LIRR #2303 above- neat! Anyway it stops at Newark Penn, Newark Int'l, and Metropark en route to Trenton. Lots of traffic/ATC especially before Metropark and then its 125mph most of the way. And i got a triple meet at Hamilton!
Just been through this entire thread and found 132 service runs that'll be of interest for me. Thanks everyone - looking forward to trying these out (if my PS4 doesn't crash in the middle! )
Midland Main Line with both cargo packs 1 & 2 added. A Class 158 service 2L35 the 12:29 Leicester to Lincoln. Lots of action especially between East Midlands Parkway and Trent East Junction. You are also delayed for 2-3 Minutes at Leicester by an incoming Freight service. Mike.
All right, the damndest thing happened to me. Loaded the route, started, held at red, the two gravel trains, the HST, everything as advertised. Light cleared, proceeded, and..... a few hundred yards on, game crashed. Oh, well, that happens. So I relaunched and... clean and green all the way. No 66s, no 43, no traffic at all! So I restarted- same. Quit and relaunched the game - same. Nothing at Trent Junctionat all, either. Only other trains I saw were HSTs rolling by on the fast line, not bothering me in the least. What the hell happened?
Steam. I should point out that CL:A was loaded, because there were static aggregates hoppers on sidings that I passed. EDIT: Weird. Spawned in on foot and waited on the platform: all the traffic was back. Confused now. EDIT 2: I'm an idiot. Somehow confused 2L35 (12:29) with 2L29 (10:29). The earlier service is traffic free, the later one gets interesting.
LIRR2 -M9 service 3859 Long beach to Penn. This is a non-stop reposition move. What can I say, you are driving in Rush hour. lots of Trains, lots of action with no drama. took 44 minutes
LIRR2- AI only service 1152 Penn- Freeport. This is a 503pm AI only service that doesn't stop and goes out the portal after Lynbrook station. You spawn in at 1700 at Penn station and head over to platform 21 as a Passenger. This is a perfect way to chill and enjoy the route via St Albans. The first stop of this service would be Rockville Centre which is beyond the map. Once the train goes out of coverage area you have the option to spawn in Lynbrook.
Great suggestion enjoyed so much!! Going to run this again later Months (NOV/DEC) for added lighting effects!
