TS/C can be pumped up a lot (but this also happens in all GTAs) but at the cost of a very high demand for hardware resources. TS/C even in vanilla version requires more resorse than TSW. It is obvious that there are routes and rolling stock that also graphically surpass their counterparts in TSW. But I didn't go into detail and specify it. So in terms of general impact, making a sum of the two products, TSW and TS/C although different are equivalent and TSW has a higher general graphic impact. If I had to choose one instead, I would say TSW because I no longer feel like turning what for me is a hobby into a real job.

    * I still remember how much I sweated to bring the TGV sounds mod, a mod created at the time only in French, from the Marseille-Lyon route (the original route for which the mod was created), onto the new TGV with PZB/LZB, I think it's the route was Frankfurt-Mannheim-Karlsruhe-Strasbourg (2 combined routes). Well, I don't want to do something like that anymore.

I must admit, that looks very nice! https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/mml_london_to_bedford_enhancement_pack

The enhancement pack itself is £19.99, but it has 4 requirements (without which, I don't think the enhancement will work):

The London to Bedford route: £17.99 https://store.steampowered.com/app/..._Midland_Main_Line_LondonBedford_Route_AddOn/
The Chatham Mainline route: £24.99 https://store.steampowered.com/app/...ia__Blackfriars__Dover__Ramsgate_Route_AddOn/
West Coast Mainline South: £24.99 https://store.steampowered.com/app/..._South_London_Euston__Birmingham_Route_AddOn/
    and Wessex Mainline: £24.99 https://www.justtrains.net/product/wessex-main-line-southampton-salisbury-extension

Armstrong Powerhouse also provide 4 scenarios, but you need three more DLC to play them.

Admittedly, you do get a lot of routes for that price, but if you didn't have some of those DLCs already, the cost can be significant to upgrade the route.

You also get no timetable, or the ability to walk around...

As others have said, it's good that TSW and TS exist, and it should stay that way. I am primarily a PC player, and also primarily someone who prefers simulation games. I started with TSW because of the graphics and also because it is friendly for starters. I'd actually prefer TS but over the years, I stood with TSW as I expanded my collection of DLCs, and switching to TS would be too late at this point, especially because I'd have to buy a ton of content (since I have like 2 or 3 DLCs for TS), and comparing to my TSW collection, it wouldn't make sense to do it.

Timetable is not possible in TSC. In my opinion, it's a little overrated in TSW, as it's mostly the same few services duplicated and time shifted. In Zusi there's more variation due to the larger network.

But TSC has a feature that is massively underrated - QuickDrive. You can set up any service you like and the scenario gets filled with randomized AI services and static stock that qualifies for the era and route (the PreLoad files work a bit like the substitution flags in TSW). So endless permutations. And we have a skilled specialist in the community, Kim Olesen , who creates the most realistic and randomized QD templates.

Walking. I can't walk in my Flightsim either, it's not something everyone cares about. And with a little bit of imagination, you can use the free cam to simulate walking - and there's no invisible walls stopping you.

And about the requirements - it's the best british routes that probably everyone has anyway. It's like not having SEHS on TSW. And if you need to buy it, you get the value from the required routes themselves.

Yes I looked into this after looking at the excellent screen shots. The base route is £17.99 on Steam so probably under a tenner in a Steam sale but has mixed reviews. I watched a couple of YT video clips and the 319 seems near silent without any mods or enhancements, even the track noise seemed a bit bland. You need to add the Class 700 DLC for more variety then all the aforementioned add ons. Not far off £100 to get the best out of a 50 mile route. As discussed regularly in the TSC forums a downside of the AP business model, plus none of their stuff is on Steam/Marketplace. So probably a particular experience I will pass on, for now.

However I did immensely enjoy a run on TSC last night, with a 9F hauled freight from Dumfries into Kingmoor Yard, on the venerable Western Lines Of Scotland.

I disagree on that one. Imo timetable is actually the best feature of TSW. A lot of scenarios for TSC are replicating real life timetables, a lot of hours goes into building realistic scenarios. And with TSW you have all of that already ingame.

I agree, some of them are rather replicating. But first of all - newer timetables have a lot more variance (look at all the stuff you can do on the new BRO timetable mod, on DRA vanilla, even RSN has some really interesting bits in the timetable). And second - at the end of the day it tries to simulate reality. And of course especially all the regio services are basically the same. Because they have to be as it is in reality. So actually it's a good thing TSW manages to simulate that.

This isn't a great poll... I'd like to point out that DTG abandoning development of Train Simulator will not fix the fundamental flaws with Train Sim World.

It's fairly irrelevant like "Should DTG drop gen 8 consoles". These discussions go on even when DTG make clear statements. Just exchanging thoughts, but no outcome.

Decisions like that will not be based on random polls. We're consumers, not CEOs.

I have just checked - AP delivers a whole lot of QD templates with AI service patterns for 2011, 2016 and 2019. Crazy!

Perhaps it is not a big achievement - it doesn't mean it is a great experience! TSW wouldn't be the same without it!

Whilst I am a fan of TSW, I’m not a big fan of either walking or timetables.

It’s only my preference but I don’t see the point in being able to get out and look for collectibles at each stop - a train driver wouldn’t do it. In fact I could do without any of the ‘game’ elements but I understand that people like their collectibles and medals so fine that they are there.

As for timetables. For me they are boring and repetitive. I’d sooner play a well crafted scenario in either game.

So it comes back to both games having something different to offer. So no sense in dropping either of them.

Right now I’m excited to get back home and play the new AP MML, which already has probably more scenarios than I’ll ever have time for. Last week it was LIRR in TSW.

Fun Fact. In the very first rendition of Edinburgh - Dundee - Perth from JustTrains, there's Concordes taking off and landing at EGPH.

Just Trains - Scottish ECML for RailWorks 3 (2012)

and the first rendition of Burntisland (remember this was 2012 - no wonder people were upset after the TSW preview stream)

Eight years later, DTG released Fife Circle for TS, improving a lot of the scenery - a better model of the bridge, 3D trees, new tracks etc.

  14. Threads like this are why we had polls taken away for a very long time.

Unpopular opinion, but I still think TSC looks very bland and not as detailed as TSW. That opinion aside, it makes no sense for DTG to abandon any source of income. There is a huge player base for
TSC and to cut off the extra revenue would make zero sense.

I don't think it is necessary to take away the poll feature just because of a few controversial ones.

There is an easy step what mods can do to prevent interaction with these. That's locking it.

And to be honest, I wonder why they didn't so yesterday already when they were around. Other recent Enough Enough is Enough threads were closed within minutes and there weren't nearly as hot as this one.

Now we have about 40 hours left until monday morning with a burning fire going on. We only can be lucky that yet no real TSC advocates/TSW haters turned up to create a war zone out of this thread.

Overall I think it's been a fairly reasonable discussion. Most of us (on PC at any rate) get something out of both sims.

Anecdotally, following on from the earlier discussion about the TSC "BedPan" line, I checked out the Class 700 for TSC reviews on Steam. Seems like it's even worse than what DTG lumbered us with in TSW, gets ripped apart in short order - primarily because of the sounds. So I guess there are similarities between the two, namely that DTG need to pull their socks up in the audio department for both sims, cannot get away with foisting off non authentic and poorly mixed sounds at the prices they are charging.

Often, but absolutely not always, TSW is more detailed, at least on a per-asset level. However, when looking at a route on the whole it's much less clear - look at Marseille to Avignon in both games as a prime example. The Train Simulator version is objectively and significantly superior graphically in almost every way.

As for it looking 'bland' you'll need to be a bit more specific as that can cover multiple different aspects. On my computer, which is set to use the full RGB colour range which is not active by default for some reason, and with the AP Weather EP 2.0, generally Train Simulator has much more vibrant colours which are perhaps a tad unrealistic but very nice to look at, whereas TSW has slightly more muted colours... Although that probably has quite a bit to do with the appalling lighting that, at least from what I have heard, is a side effect of DTG trying to fix lighting that wasn't set up properly. I may be wrong, but the intensity of the sun is set in the game to be 1000% of its normal value, but I'm not sure how true that is.

    Nope.

I will admit though that since playing a lot of TSW I struggle to get back into TSC.

As far as I’m aware DTG have 2 separate teams working on each game. Obviously as they’re both centred around trains they may coincide with each other at points but ultimately there are still a lot of people who do enjoy TSC, and if continuing to develop and support TSC isn’t affecting the development of TSW, which it isn’t, I see absolutely no reason why TSC can’t continue.

    TSC:
The Good. Started the 8F scenario on Riviera where you have to take a heavy freight from Exeter to Newton Abbot, visiting every loop. Very challenging as in the dark, the scripting on the Bossman loco means the reverser setting doesn’t show on the normal or reduced HUD and there is no cab light I can find to illuminate the controls. (F5 therefore my friend). The semaphore signals are challenging to see. Although the Bossman auto fireman takes care of the coal, player still has to switch the injectors on and off to top up the boiler. Sounds and physics are great, really struggle to lift the heavy train and not pit the fire through the roof or kill the boiler.

The Not So Good: Prior to that I tried to finish the 9F scenario on WLoS. On the gradient coming up into Kingmoor, very last stretch constant wheelslip no matter how I manipulated the regulator and cutoff. Eventually stalled and couldn’t get going, just yards from the end point. Very frustrating especially as the wheelslip takes away your XP as would trying to charge up there over the speed limit.

Yep, the IHH/DTG 9F is proper LOVE, not worth the time of day. I would use the Victory Works 9F more but almost all Victory Works locos cause massive stutters that make them unplayable, so most of his library is pretty much decoration for me. It's uncharacteristic, because Bossman Games locos have no issues at all, and the better optimised Caledonia Works locos aren't bad either when it comes to performance.

I know this is getting OT a bit but might clone the scenario later and put the 8F on it. The 9F physics were actually reminiscent of TSW, over sensitive wheel slip. I actually lost loads of points getting away from Dumfries to the same issue!

Overall I play TSW much, much more that TSC, but there is something about that Riviera Line (perhaps working steam locos) which draws me back and then I tend to dabble in a few other routes as well.

Have to agree there. Something about the sound of a GWR kettle hard at work!

Though still bit me on the posterior yesterday evening, when I went to resume the Riviera Bossman 8F scenario the bug where the regulator no longer responds is still present, so I had to abandon it. Obviously a highly scripted loco which doesn’t always resume properly.

I'd like to see both sims thrive, tbh. I like both, although I've spent more time recently in TSW than TSC. I also sim in Run 8 which I really enjoy. I just love trains, and the uniqueness and the similarities of being able to operate trains in various parts of the world is really great. Poll needed more options.

    Good morning everyone,

I've seen some concerns of this kind of thread derailing, but for the most part it's been very civil and the points brought up have been sensible.
Please keep it this way, it's certainly interesting to hear the opinions from both sides of the fence - even if there really isn't a fence to speak of.

    All the best,

I have had many frustrations with TSC and TSW, being away a lot lately and not having a lot of time TSC can be a quite a chore to set up anything other than the originally provided content. Scenarios can be good but take a while and if you write your own you know exactly what is going to happen. Also the route improvements provided by the likes of AP are great but again take some time to set up.

TSW now edges into first place for me. Fire up and go. It does lack some of the content that TSC does but timetable mode is a major feature. TSC really could do with this. I think it all depends on the amount of time available. I don't have hours of time for train sims.

I dabble in flight sims and occasionally FPS shooters but not COD...

As a footnote I have Zusi 3 running on a low spec but modern laptop. As I'm away a lot it's passed a few hours in hotels and runs remarkably well. Operationally shows up most simulators as lacking in random events and keeps one sharp....
