Well, when I point out that the save function doesn't work as it is glitchy and your answer is it can be disabled??? Either your version of TSW must be perfect or you must not be playing it alot. Are you on PC or console?

All I said was it can be disabled.

If you actually read my post, you would see I didn't say it wasn't glitchy:
Nowhere did I say it wasn't glitchy, I just said it can be disabled.

It's also the stereotypical route of someone who didn't get what they wanted, can't accept they haven't got what they wanted, and now will continually grow more and more bitter and angry with this company until their rage consumes them and it becomes an obsession. Many times I've witnessed this happen now on these forums........

I’m not sure on the poll, I got some mixed opinions to say one answer so I will abstain.

though I definitely agree there’s been headline issues for months and years that have received little to no fix what need sorting, for the good of the game, people’s experience with the game and continued sales.

There are. Issues, like the save game feature which for me should be a priority and something I have moaned about on several occasions.

But when you read posts from the OP and see comments like "car crash" then all I see is emotive language which is inaccurate but will obviously appeal to some. If TSW was that bad DTG wouldn't be in business and these forums wouldn't be here.

I hope those who voted yes to stopping new content to fix bugs don't run their own businesses.

    Completely agree.

The 'Save Game' feature would be a prime example of something that pausing new content probably won't solve. I can't imagine that many route or locomotive designers could be redeployed to solve a core problem.

We know they are working on a core update, so work is being done in that area. It is about managing those who work on these core issues to ensure they get the most bang for their buck. DTG will prioritise work based on what resource is available at any given time, probably with those working on the core tackling the high impact low resource issues first.

The major part of running a business is to have the ability to deliver a high quality product with to little to none issues for the secure future of said business. Every version of TSW has issues and every year we get sold a line of new and improved, but there are still bugs and glitches. If DTG can't solve TSW with the number of DLCs it has at present, how are they going to fix TSW with even more DLCs added? I fear TSW's future isn't looking good because if DTG have a product they can't afford to fix or are unable to, as a business what they will do is draw a line under it and that will be it for TSW.

Experts have been predicting the downfall of RSC/DTG since 2008!

It is an individuals interpretation of whether DTG delivers good enough quality. It seems it must be doing so at the moment.

Sounds like DTG is doomed (again) :D

If the major part of running a business is deliver high quality products not a lot of companies would be in business. The major part of running a business is tell a good story and convince everyone to belief in that story.

I see more doom in a future where the focus is on bug fixing without releasing new content. I don't think Focus bought Dovetail to finally start fixing those bugs people were talking about on the forum.

An individuals interpretation comes from playing a game and getting frustrated with the bugs and glitches. This is about bug fixes and glitches, doom can be the next poll.

But I don't remember me saying it wasn't as you've tried to infer.

This is probably going nowhere, so best to end it here.

Poll really needs a third option - a balanced approach, in particular bringing back the Preservation Crew who were specifically employed to clear up the mess created by their colleagues! :)

Yes, but would the existance of the Preservation Crew really do make so much more better in the end?

I mean DTG is forced to pull out content by Focus, distributors, platforms, whoelse. Even if a new Preservation Crew would be created, would it bring any other than just pointing with the finger at some problems?

Knowing an issue is one thing, actually having the will/budget/time to fix it is another.

I'm also not quite sure about the composition of the Preservation Crew. Where they actually developers to fix, or just people to say "X and Y is broken, fix it!"?

The preservation crew wouldn't help much if they were still here or brought back.

Every time one problem is fixed, 10 more appear.

What the preservation crew would do is provide a resource for TOD4 upgrades, and other things that can keep old DLC relevant for the future.

The calculation would be whether there is sufficient sales milage left in making old DLC's better. Would a player who doesn't own, for arguments sake, Bakerloo, be more likely to buy it if it was updated to TSW4 standards?

Business is about tradeoffs, and I don't have the data to know whether it would make sense or not, but personally, I'd love to see some new life being breathed into old routes, and I'd happily buy additional locos, or route extensions to fund it. I just don't know whether enough other people would.

"Should Dovetail stop making new content to focus on fixing bugs and glitches"?
Its that time of year again is it?
As soon as the DLC drops or stops its wheres the DLC? , when is such and such route coming out, posts appear
Dovetail do us a favour and please remove the option to have polls in this forum. ... Hmmm I may start one of those silly Enough is Enough threads about Polls..... Theres an idea lol.

Yes please. When polls were suspended last year, the forum was much better for their absence.

Most polls are pointless, poorly worded, self fulfilling and often just plain silly like this one.

If banning them again is not possible, maybe giving them their own sub forum would be an alternative. Then we could just ignore them if we wished.

And, before someone suggests ignoring them now, you can't always tell if a thread is a poll in disguise.

Even an approval process for threads containing polls. Won't increase workload too much but would negate the issue faced here.

What's the difference between the preservation crew and the updated or reworked routes we get since the preservation crew stopped existing?

I've raised two polls in the last months, which do have an impact on my route building. If the ability to make polls would be suspended, there were no way how I as a non-DTG person could get the right audience and gain enough votes to have a good and transperant result.

It's also useful for other creators in the PC Editor Forum often asking "Should I do that?, should I do this?" to know the audience opinion about certain steps in mod creation.

Dropping the poll feature completely would be very bad in this case.

Nobody has to participate in a poll either and one can ignore it anyway. If I see a poll like the ones asked about a month ago about which cities one would prefer to see in TSW (without even any context to railways), I just can astain from the poll. Just like I did here.

I think the only annoying thing for people is if the poll votes actually are against one's own opinion. But even then remember that DTG has their own surveys like the one in february. So for me nothing wrong with any poll here. And if it even has the nice little side effect of giving me good laugh, why not?

I think doing so would create a new censorship stage for posting threads in general, which I think is not good. Yet and independent of the actual poll in here, the OP could be seen as being against the current business practise. If the poll wouldn't be allowed, the accompanied thread wouldn't be either.

Last but not least, wouldn't it be a certain form of censorship already to forbid if users can create polls?

It's not censorship to prevent what is effectively spam.

I used the poll feature repeatedly in my 'TSW World Cup' series of threads (of which there were probably like, 12) and I would like to do a Loco edition later this year (as I planned to do last year until the banhammer was cast before me).

Banning polls would outright stop that, unless I use a third-party thing like Google Forms - which removes the fun part which is watching the results change and narrow battles emerging.

Whilst they are, by definition, spam (due to the number of threads needed) - they were well-recieved (even by the DTG team) and I timed it for the festive season so that the forum wasn't busy - so it wasn't disruptive.

However the poll misuse we are seeing now is not that - it's asking vague questions that we've been asked a million times before. I did that kind of thing when I first joined the forum (with my poorly-made ScotRail suggestions) and, well, I struggle to look at my earlier threads, put it that way.

I would agree with matt#4801 here - a checking stage would be good. Leaves it up to moderation what is okay and what isn't. Saves the inconvenience of banning them (some polls are good / fun) but removes the annoyance of spam. A good middle ground, for me.

That does not annoy me, always good for a discussion. What annoys me in polls is when they are phrased in such a way the outcome of the poll is guaranteed to sway how the author wants it to be. Example:

    1. Should routes YOU don't like still be developed?
    2. Should the focus be only on routes YOU like?

You already know what the outcome of this poll would be

I think its best to optimise the game firstly, make it stable, fix the content. Then they can add new content and features. Sadly its not easy to do it, companies need to keep running and making content

Yes, a preservation crew would be fantastic, but DTG realised it was costing money and not making money, so they got canned or reduced to someone doing West Summerset in their spare time.

The poll is there for players to give their feedback or opinions, you are more than welcome to take part and if you don't want to take part you don't have to.

No, the poll is there so that you can seek support for your personal opinion, an opinion I might add that is wholly untenable, expecting a commercial company to completely suspend product development?

Well I guess you succeeded in that 70% of your respondents were misguided enough to agree with you. ;)

Next poll: Should I keep feeding my dog? Yes/ No. ;)

Yes...it is a free country until it isn't, banning polls because some people don't like them or agree with the polls outcome or findings. I created the poll for players to voice their opinions on the bugs and glitches in TSW 4 and for DTG to see.

Like I said, if you don't want to take part in the poll you don't have to, move on to something you like, you think polls are pointless, so why you here then?

You're wanting DTG to cut off their revenue stream.

There's fixing bugs, and there's stopping everything else to fix bugs. The latter isn't viable, for any money making business.

Incorrect, the poll contained a closed question. The bit you 'created' for 'players' is the thread itself. I am not against polls, but polls like this frankly add nothing and frankly limit the responses given. A good usage of polls, as mentioned above, was in the TSW World Cup which were a very good example.

No it would literally just be a check that the poll isn't there for the sake of being there and I am sure it would be simple enough for them to allow the thread and just remove the poll. It would not be censorship at all, as it wouldn't be a case of removing content of a thread, but removing a poll which would be useless/bias/whatever other things bad polls can be.

Anyway I feel that this debate on polls probably isn't doing keeping them a massive favour so perhaps we had better steer back on topic, whatever that may be! :)

Yes, it is a narrow question, but a very valid one for my favorite game at present. Despite all the goings on about the poll itself and people going off topic. Let's stick to the subject and give DTG some good reading.

What does that have to do with being a "free country"?

Losing poll privileges on an internet forum = not free? Huh?

Does it? Maybe helps validate your opinion, that's it.

All the poll does is ask yes or no, there's no middle ground.

    Helps who though?

We've seen polls like this for years now - along with the "do we need a new game?", "do you think we need a new game?, as well as the frequent efforts to rally some sort of boycott movement.

It's interesting to know what people think, sure - but it doesn't "help" anything, really.

I put my answer on 2 years ago when an identical poll came out. I don't need to repeat myself.

I guess I have more money than sense. Or maybe I still get hours enjoyment from the game.

But as I'm reading these forums that must be impossible so guess I'm back to the more money than sense.

Whenever I see comments like "more money than sense", I know to take no notice of what that poster is saying.

It is my money, I will spend it how I like, if I feel that a new piece of DLC is worth full price, then that is my judgment to make.

There are some on here, who in their bitterness, definitely struggle to accept that some people enjoy TSW. It doesn't mean we are blind to its faults though.

Hey my friend, don't take things so seriously. Between MSTS, TSC and TSW, I've spent thousands of dollars playing with trains so I definitely have more money than sense. :D

There might be 4 or 5 bitter people on the forum but 99% of us are playing TSW and enjoying it. Yes, there are those, like myself who are frequently critical of the game and it's developer, but that's a form of engagement for me. Love trains, love the game. But " bitter " ? Not me. Like many of my fellow players, I'll continue to enjoy driving trains while being a fierce critic when I feel the need and offering praise when it's warranted.

So, lighten up OK. We quarrel, but we're family. ;) ;)

I created a poll to highlight the problems with TSW as DTG are not addressing these issues or are not able to. I asked should DTG stop creating content to address the bugs and glitches. If DTG are strugging to fix TSW 4 with the current content, how are DTG going to fix it with even more content or DLCs added? Players have voted yes or no and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to vote and for players who have added to this thread with their comments. DTG claim they always look through the forums, this poll is for them.

Fair point, it is only a minority but there were some very unpleasant comments around the time of TSW4. But you are right most on here just want to enjoy the sim and enjoy trains in general.

I have ploughed some serious money into TSW from all the versions to the majority of the DLCs and I enjoy the game, but I have been living on the promise that issues will get fixed...? Still waiting?
