Anyone else getting this old problem, driving a scenario for the Berks and Hants to Bristol route and there are massive pauses and frame rate drops to under 14! With this scenario: https://alanthomsonsim.com/download...idge-to-penzance-railtour-2024-real-workings/
Sadly that’s how the sim works. Giving that is a RTT scenario I can imagine the amount of AI is pretty high. When the sim is loading a AI in the distance it will unfortunately have this effect as the sim loads tiles and AI in the distance ahead of the player train. It annoys me at times as well and has that moment you feel your heart skip a beat for the dreaded CTD and a sigh of relief when it don’t.
That route comes with a lot of useless files btw. And it uses a lot of providers (76), so it's heavy on RAM, as each product folder's blueprints.pak is loaded into RAM even if there's only one small asset used from a pack.
It's always baffling to me how someone can spend the hours upon hours needed to create a route but then seemingly can't be bothered to spend a small amount of time carrying out some relatively basic housekeeping of the files being distributed.
As it's freeware, I won't complain. . Will now check if and why it shouldn't work with JT's SWEX to Reading. Surely I won't buy a useless route (old SWEX) from ATS for that to run. EDIT: Crashes instantly. I'll give that one a miss.
The route author strangely used near trees for the mass amount of far trees between Liskeard and Bodmin. My fps goes from a steadyish 35 fps to 7-10 fps between those two stations. As for the rest of the route, it runs okay for me. Maybe it's because I'm using TSC version 72.3b.
Interesting find, makes sense. The same effect can be seen on Wherry Lines 2.0, sometimes it freezes for a second, when filling tiles with trees. Considering it is a circular route, distant trees become near trees eventually, so that's unavoidable from a route building point of view on Wherry. Though it's only at a few spots there, and I can live with that. The beauty of the route is reward enough.
I don't know whether this is normal or not but I had a look in these folders. Scenarios 72 Terrain 11,430 Bin files. Scenery 2,575 Bin files. MixMap 4,248 Bin files. There is no installer for this route so you have to copy and paste the Asset and Content folders which is over 3GB. I started the process which said at first it was going to take 3 hrs then after a while a day. I cancelled the process.
I installed the route and the scenario that martschuffing is talking about. About 5 minutes in just before you come to a long tunnel the scenario froze for a few seconds and when it started the fps was down from about 40 FPS to 14 and probably lower as TSC2024 doesn't show lower than 14 FPS. Anyway this lasted for about a minute and as I went into the tunnel the FPS slowly increased to about 45 FPS. This route is massive for those who don't have it and when you go into map view and zoom out you cannot see all the route but have to scroll around to see it. For a freeware route, this is up there with some of the best payware routes in my opinion but like some freeware routes could become costly if you don't have the payware DLC. My PC is an Intel i5 10600K with an RTX 3050 TI GPU and I'm running with all the game settings at their highest. The scenery on this route is superb BTW.
I am working on a distant scenery patch for the Cornish section.. Currently made it to Bodmin Parkway area - must have changed over 200K near trees in the background replacing them with far trees...
I just purchased an M2 SSD and put TSC on it. Running the Dorridge to Penzance route, I no longer get all the stuttering just before the tunnel. The game used to run like a slide show in this area. Now I'm getting about 30 FPS. The only thing I now get is a brief freeze about a mile after the tunnel.
How do you get from Dorridge to Penzance without simulating the walk from Moor Street to New Street in Brum?
