A new route proposal for TSW: The Ayrshire Coast Line Route details: Running from Glasgow Central to three branches, including Largs, Ardrossan Harbour and Ayr. Era: Modern/present day Traction along this line sees the Class 156 and 380. The 156 would of course be the new piece of rolling stock built for this line, with layering opportunities for Cathcart and the Edinburgh to Glasgow Line, at the Glasgow Queen Street end. This route has a total of 26 stations, with mileage ranging from 39 miles from Glasgow to Ary, plus an additional 16 miles to Largs. Typical journey times: - Glasgow to Ardrossan Harbour: 50 minutes - Glasgow to Largs: 60 minutes - Glasgow to Ary: 50-60 minutes
I'm all for the Ayrshire coast route coming to TSW as a potential route, but setting it in the present day may not be the smartest idea at the moment. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the station hotel at Ayr (which also doubled as the ticket office) was ravaged by a fire in September last year. As it stands right now, more than half the building has been demolished and services only run as far as Prestwick town with full services returning next week (June 17th). It might be a better idea to backdate the route to 2015, before the fire and before the white sheets were put over the building at Ayr from the hotel becoming unstable in 2018.
Personally I would prefer a late 80s/early 90s ACL with the 318, 156, 101, and loco hauled services but I would definitely take this route in modern day as well, great suggestion overall
Inverclyde could definitely be added as well, it as would come to around 90 miles (Same as SEHS extended)
Probably not together with the Ayrshire Coast line though, as that's a lot of stations and other things to model for one route. Would be good as an extension or alternative route choice however.
YES YES YES! My local line! One of my favourites! Definitely make good use of the class 380! Edit: just watch the spelling. It's Ayr. Not Ary. (Pronounced: Air. As in air field)
