    Hi All,

Probably asked this question a fair few times but anway.

I'm wanting to use the VP track to replace the ghastly looking kuju track on the old S&DJR route. How do I do it, and get the ground textures near the track to match that of the track ballast?

    TIA

I'm not sure if there is any official way of replacing track in a route, but what I do is

    1) Place down a small section of track where signals, milepost are and move those the best I can
    2) Delete the track piece by piece and replacing the track slowly

I have no idea if TS Tools or know of any other tool out there that would make replacing track a lot easier! If there is, I would also like to know about it or how to do it correctly.

Replacing ballast painted onto the terrain! Should be easy enough but I think you would need to delete the original ballast texture first. Again, not sure if that's the correct process

You can certainly change the track type with TS tools. Used to be a tutorial on the site but I'm not sure if that is still available. It's a reasonably straightforward, if somewhat delicate search and replace operation. Slow and steady and plentiful backups are the watchwords.

Changing the ground ballast texture is more involved. I'm not aware of a reliable way of doing this without going in to the route editor and repainting the terrain.

You can change the template for ground textures used on the whole route, but that will mean repainting the whole thing anyway as lots of textures won't match what they're meant to be. However, the Kuju ground textures don't have any textures that match the VP or AP track, which means you will probably need to do it anyway.

Ah, if only the editor had the built in pick and replace asset function that Trainz Surveyor offers. Works for track type and road splines, 3D objects and even terrain textures. can be used globally or in a defined area.

As stated it can be done but not easy as not only do you have to change the track type you also need to go through and update track rule entries or it may not function or display correctly. For terrain textures you are stuck with the original route template - it cannot be added to, only changed for a completely different one which as noted may turn your green grass fields into rocky outcrops. Very inflexible and you would have thought after 17 years, the editor would have received a few refinements.

Wonderful! It worked! I changed the default track on the S&DJR route and it looks 100 times better with the VP track. I'll post screenshots later

So I managed to change the tracks, but now my S&DJR seems to be broken. What did I do? I don't remember touching any track pieces 24010_20240708211308_1.png

So I retried this again - the tracks appeared, not as bad as the screenshot above, but still have buffers in places that there shouldn't be and the track looks aligned. However when I go to re-join the affected sections, the tracks throw buffers further down.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch etc?
