I've been playing TSW for the last few years but recently decided to give TSC a go. To dip my toe in the water I picked up the Great British Railway Journeys & TS DLC Bundle, which is currently £4.99 in the Steam sale. With 5 routes included I thought this a really good deal for the price. I thought to myself if I like what I see then I'll pick up TSC and the routes will transfer over. Now for the happy surprise. Turns out I've had TSC in my Steam library, for years, and had completely forgot it was there. Checking my purchase history there's no sign of me ever buying it, so I must of got it for free at some stage. Not sure what version of TSC was originally added to my library but, excluding the 5 new routes just purchased, it now includes Isle of Wight, Northeast Corridor and Sherman Hill. Now looking at the DLC available, in the Steam sale, is certainly a bit overwhelming. I don't intend to buy a lot of addons, as I think I'll still stick with TSW in the main. I'm mostly interested in British routes and was thinking of picking up some of the Centenary Bundles, two in particular: https://store.steampowered.com/bund..._Great_Western_Railway_GWR__Centenary_Bundle/ https://store.steampowered.com/bund...lassic_Southern_Railway_SR__Centenary_Bundle/ Do you think this is a good choice and what do people think of the Centenary Bundles in general? Also, what are some of the other highly recommended British routes? Any advice appreciated.
It's really difficult to recommend specific items to purchase, most everyone has preferences like region, era. We used to recommend stuff like Weardale but it's a decade old and ever since a 3rd party vegatation and sky offering, people boo it. I normally recommend going through the DLC and dumping interesting ones in your wishlist. Then you can sort them: Price - Good for a quick start, initial variety. Some gems included. Usually there is a reason behind: old, simple... Discount - Now or never, right? Note that some have a higher base price. But really, there is a reason for discounts. Review score - Quality over quantity. Release date - Newer stuff tends to be prettier. Also more demanding, though. Make a conscious judgment of how much you did, do and desire to play, thus how much to spend. I'd mix the above equally. On top of that, there are many offerings outside Steam, content and improvements, payware and free. I'd stay open to the rest of the world, too. There is only so much variety the UK can offer (scenery, signalling, trains). At least for toe dipping levels, picking up keys for old TSC yearly editions (content bundles, really) might be worth it. My most played and suggestable UK routes are: Settle-Carlisle (summer only), Portsmouth Direct Line 2018 (Waterloo), London-Faversham (the new full Chatham is probably better), London-Peterborough (workshop version), Weardale. Riviera 50s used to be a steam staple but also old. Netherfield-Nottingham seems pretty at first glance.
Thanks. Settle-Carlisle is one of the main reasons I picked up the Great British Railway Journeys & TS DLC Bundle as its one of the included routes. I purchased the Southern Railway Centenary Bundle earlier and am liking what I have seen so far. TSC has a much larger variety of steam loco's than TSW which is what drew me to it in the first place. Chances are I'm going to pick up a least one more of the Centenary Bundles before the sale is over.
There is one frequent poster in the main screenshots thread, decrepitts. You should check his stuff out. I recall he has a lot of VictoryWorks, GAD stuff. Might be your avenue. Let me try and summon him: decrepitts#7027
