Hello all, this is my first post on the forum and I’m hoping someone can assist. I’m trying to track down some old payware CDs that have long since past into the illustrious history of MSTS.

I know many of you are raising an eyebrow thinking why bother when there are so many good modern rail sims on offer. I don’t doubt, but since installing OpenRails is has given new life to the old sim and out of nostalgia I was hoping to rekindle the old girl, as I have some fond memories of MSTS as part of my youth (actually.... it gives quite a credible result running on windows 11 on my laptop, even by today’s standards!).

The payware CDs in question was produced as a fund raiser for the Class 15 Preservation Society.

CD 1. ‘Noisy and Smelly’. A compilation of BTH Type 1 diesels

CD 2. ‘Claytons’. A compilation of Class 17 diesels

Alas, the items are no longer available from the Society shop as time and people have moved on from MSTS. I have tried contacting the society admin hoping they might have a dusty copy lurking on a shelf somewhere but no joy. I’ve tried Ebay and other shops but to no avail.

If any body has the above CDs (either or both), then I would be happy to buy them at a generous price and cover all postage costs.

Hope someone can come up with the goods!

I ran into the same wall when trying to get their ELR Diesel Gala CD, no luck, but the gentleman I e-mailed from the Society was extremely pleasant.

Unfortunately all I have from them would be the ELR CD. If I come up with anything for the others I'll drop you a line.

By any chance do you have the SVR Diesel Gala CD that used to be sold on UKTrainsim? That one's been another royal pain to track down.

Hi R3DWolf91, thanks for the reply. I also tried contacting the Class 15 preservation society. Likewise no joy in obtaining any of the CDs, but they are a fantastic crew and very helpful.

I don't unfortunately have a copy of the SVR Diesel Gala CD. Looks like we're both destined to chase elusive beasts, but never give up hope! I have in the past tracked down some really hard to find items for MSTS and its down to perseverance, so I'll keep on looking.

If I come across a copy of the SVR Diesel Gala CD I'll snap it up and send it on to you. Likewise if you find a copy of the Claytons CD please let me know.

    Cheers. Chris

Good news, Chris! I got an e-mail from the Society this morning that they were able to find a bunch of the MSTS CD's in storage. I'll drop you a PM as well in case you don't get alerts to post replies.

I got my USB drive from the Class 15 Society today, and it still amazes me how MSTS still holds up fairly well for it's age (with OpenRails, of course!)

If anyone else is still using MSTS/OR, I highly recommend grabbing some of their add-ons. It goes to a good cause and you get some fun content.

In terms of graphics and some elements of gameplay, we have come a long way, yes.

But with some features, like the save game and some aspects of the HUD, we've actually taken a few steps backward.

One of the biggest, most noticeable advantages MSTS had was the third party accessibility. Everyone and their uncle had content for MSTS, both freeware and payware, and you had access to countless routes and trains. Some of it was bad, some really bad, but there was plenty good, and some that was so good it pushed the limits of the base software. Most everyone had developers they liked and didn't like, but there was definitely something for everyone.

Yep, the driving physics in Openrails feels v nice, plus huge framerates makes for a nice smooth driving experience. There's some nice content out there like Greater Eastern, New Forest etc etc.
Tempted to buy NWC 1 from the site. Don't think the upgrade, NWC 2, is available?

NWC 2 looks like it died with the UKTS CD Ordering, which is a shame. I'm still trying to track down a copy of the old SVR Diesel Gala CD that used to be sold through them.
