Still fighting with this - tied to the train because they move along with it. Has anyone found a solution with .ini or other settings?
unfortunately not yet. someone said it could be a core issue... hopefully we can alarm DTG so they fix it at some point
It's been a thing since at least TSW2 when I started playing. Just part of how the game is set up to handle the shadows. There's other bizarre effects of this noticeable in particular on routes like Cane Creek, but anything with a lot of shadowed valleys. It's one of the few things that would genuinely be notably improved if they at some point were to switch to using UE5 for a future series of train sims, since the lumen GI would handle it differently, but as it stands I am not sure they can satisfactorily "fix" it without breaking performance due to other changes it would incur for the shadows. All I can say for now is that given the choice between having track shadows with the egregious popin, and not having track shadows, I will pick the latter any day.
DTG Harry Is there a ticket in about this issue please? Affects PS4 and 5 too so would be good to get a fix. Thank you
one thing I noticed for a whole while but never connected to this was that the sleepers (if that's what they're called) disappear not too far away, turning from 3D models to 2D textures or something. perhaps the shadows are connected to these? there should then be a way to extend the LOD of these by a good bit, perhaps about 8 times the radius, so the shadows also load in from farther away and disappear more seamlessly. This shouldn't impact the performance that bad.
That's why I avoid early mornings, sunrises or sunsets with direct light right in your face. On some routes it is unbearable. One of the bad things, if not the worst, in TSW: Shadows in general. Only remedy is to customize weather by adding a bit of fog and clouds.
If you can download Uasset gui version 1.07 ( a small easy to use tool found on git hub). Have a look at the track descriptor files for your chosen route dlc. There are values in there. I didnt get any noticeable result, but didnt spend or have much time to figure out, the values that were relevant.
I always thought it was limitation with consoles that caused this, so it's refreshing to here its not just us console users. Hopefully it could be added to a next 'core' update if its given attention?
I don't think DTG even sees this as an issue, I would say these are simply standard DTG shadows and nothing to fix about it. As well as the other 136 "standard" things...
It is when you are driving towards the sun and there is a train shadow always in front of that is annoying
We've been complaining about this for about as long as "TSW" has been a thing, so doubt that, unfortunately.
