When driving freight trains on Ruhr-Sieg Nord with BR185.2 it is very easy to brake. Putting the automatic brake and dynamic brake in position 3 will result in an "emergency"-alike braking, which is very unrealistic. I will show some pictures taken by me just to show you what this means. Click on the images to a larger size. In this image, the speed is 14.72 m/s with no braking and gradient of -0.7%. The clock shows 16:14:26, and now I put the brakes in position 3. In this image, the speed is now 0.0 m/s after braking with brakes in position 3 and gradient -0.7%. The clock now shows 16:14:42 That means I had a negative acceleration of -0.92 m/s^2 which is way too high, or low maybe, for a freight train. Typical passenger trains accelerate with ±0.5 m/s^2.
I calculated emergency brakes application, 100km/h or 27.77m/s to 0. The deceleration was -1.32m/s². But it's really hard to tell, we need real data so we can compare. One thing is for sure, german trains have very good brakes indeed. obs: same loco 185, on straight line.
Definitely spotted that a long time ago. It is not only with that loco but also with the DB BR 155 and 143. As some have already said, german locomotives indeed have good braking systems but common, a DB BR 155 with 10-15 wagons brakes like it is a passenger train. And that is only on the lowest braking setting. Maybe i am a bit spoiled after playing ZUSI 2 and 3 for a while now.
I can confirm that indeed. Main-Spessart shows no problems with braking on any loco or wagon combination, but on Ruhr-Sieg it gets crazy sometimes. Especially the DB 143 or 155. On minimal brake settings when the electric brake kicks in it almost stops the Earth from rotating. Please look into it DTG as the route is amazing . Cheers
