Heya. Just uploaded a pack that patches the default Donner Pass scenarios, which have impossible timings. They can now be completed (changed from timed checkpoints to 1000 points at start and driving error deductions) and should trigger their achievements. Director Special ("1] Donner Pass CS") uses passenger speed limits now. https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/m...atches/i4518-donner-pass-career-scenarios-fix
Thank you very much! Don't get me wrong, I am thankfull you made your hard work available to everyone, but why did it take 12 years for the community to fix this? And more important, why did DTG not fix it? - Not regarded broken? - Too many man hrs ($) needed to fix? - Generates too big Steam download? - Unwanted side effects? - Legal issues? - Carreer / score issues? - ... .... .... .....? Not fixing easy stuff (easy in my simple mind) like this does not give DTG and TS a good rap and also gives the impression of lack of dedication to their product!
Thanks, that's just how they are handling things. Usually there's one post-release patch. The scenarios did work initially, but a PhysX upgrade in 2014 made the locos more realistic and slower. We've all been asking the same questions before, it's just like it is. DTG are a commercial company and are assigning resources to be most profitable. I'm a customer just like you so I can't answer these questions.
Ah, ok, too bad. I had expected you would have some thoughts about this. Pergaps/hopefully some one else Buggy situations like these must have been an issue before and DTG must have their reasons not to fix them, I just keep wondering . . . . . why?
Because it's not generating revenue and DTG are having a monopoly. Of course, they won't admit it. And I think there's a large portion of players who do not care about scores in a simulation, using the "Career Scoring" setting to get rid of the scoring and just get their complete checkmark. TSW has the same issues, even worse - a lot of services not only give low score but can't even be completed due to dispatcher issues and stuck trains. Good example why I've stopped asking questions (especially why the community managers never return after making promises) and just do what I can do myself: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/metro-north-textures-not-loading.15301/
Good work Spikee. Of course just about every route has career scenarios which are difficult if not impossible to achieve. At least some of that is due to the default parameters are set far too strictly and the scenario compilers either don’t know, or can’t be bothered,to go in and make them more lenient. Sadly the chances of DTG or the third parties going back in and fixing this type of issue are probably next to nothing. As we see with TSW unless something is completely broken and prevents the DLC being played at all, the chances of fixes decrease exponentially the more time passes and after six months, forget it!
The good thing is you can easily adjust stuff yourself in TSC - it doesn't require you to setup an awkward editor which can't properly save and export your stuff and prevents you from editing original content.
Thanks a lot for the fix! How can I change timing for other routes, such as Mount Shasta? You said it is easy...
Easy when you know how. Took me years until it clicked as you cannot directly modify Career scenarios 1. Clone the scenario 2. Make changes on the clone (untick clock checkbox for timed stops - be careful, scenarios which use overtaking might be depending on the timed stops!) 3. Copy the clones scenario.bin and scenario.bin.MD5 back to the original scenario's folder 4. Open the original ScenarioProperties.xml and the cloned one. Copy the <MD5> string from clone to original - this prevents the Error message at scenario start when tampering with Career scenarios 5. Adjust career settings, set the start score to 1000. Remove LatePoints, Arrival score, comfort checking (for freight I do) using Notepad++.
I would like to express my appreciation that you have made this patch available to everyone, I have just applied the patch and it is great! I am especially grateful that you have also detailed the steps required to make the corrections -- I am sure this information will be very useful to me.
