Skyhook’s Saltire Sprinter is almost here! With gameplay coming to both Edinburgh – Glasgow and Fife Circle Line, there’s plenty of Scottish action to be had with the ScotRail Class 158, releasing on 25th July.

    TSW4_Class_158_Watermarked_Screenshots_7.jpg

Class 158s first entered service in Scotland in September 1990, eventually becoming part of the ScotRail fleet. The contemporary ScotRail variant has been developed by Skyhook Games to add traffic and gameplay to all three Scottish route Add-ons available in Train Sim World 4. This has involved overhauling the exterior to match ScotRail’s patriotic blue tones and branding.

    TSW4_Class_158_Watermarked_Screenshots_8.jpg

Skyhook have also made changes to the exterior PIS display, as depicted in the above screenshot. Other screenshots in this article were captured prior to this being implemented.

    TSW4_Class_158_Watermarked_Screenshots_3.jpg

The changes don’t stop there though! Alternative headlight clusters, an integrated snow plough (for those harsh Scottish winters) a new passenger interior and revised cab layout all single this variant out from the EMT version. The new passenger interior consists of all new seat, table and luggage rack models, completely new lighting and even adjustments to the walls.

Train Sim World 4: ScotRail Class 158 DMU Add-on will be available 25th July on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £12.99/€15.99/$16.99

Will there be a small discount for those who own the EMT 158? As seen with the BCC Class 323 and glossop class 323?

No 380 in the new TT? ouch. Also way too expensive for what you get

wow, £12.99 is a stretch for a livery & some model changes. Especially coming from the studio that made the 158 in the first place.

I suppose you can stomach it with the timetable & scenarios, but the pricing logic for various content in TSW just gets daft sometimes.

Article doesn’t mention number of services, but it is a shame to see no 380 in it, that would have tempted me to pick that one up too, if I were to buy into this pack, especially given the state of the current E2G rolling stock, that route needs all the alternatives it can get its hands on.

No 158 services for FCL at launch means i'm probably gonna wait on this one.

Please do a better job at scheduling releases more logically, DTG (as publisher).

Well, there is a handful of scenarios for FCL and it shows up as AI on Cathcart. And with the new timetable for E to G, it won't be exactly invisible.

On the other hand, it's fundamentally a reskin plus some cosmetics to the cab and interior and should be priced accordingly.

TSW is a pricey hobby and I’m not normally one to complain about the price of DLC. I wasn’t expecting this to be the same price as the 380 though with it being a reworked train and not a brand new model but I guess when the Fife Circle timetable comes at a later date there will be an increased amount of gameplay included. I’m not entirely sold on AI services being counted as gameplay so its inclusion in Cathcart Circle is purely cosmetic but it will be there I suppose. Just like the 380, which I very much like the look of from streams I’ve watched, I will get it at some point but the vast number of DLC being released requires me to wait for sales for almost everything these days as I do like to buy most things that are available. This goes on the list.

It's not just cosmetics. You've already pointed out differences to the cab, interior and there's also exterior changes. All that is a lot of work and a brand new model

Fair points, and i will pick it up at some point. I don't play scenarios but maybe the new timetable will make E-G a little less dull.

Honestly, if Rivet hadn't made such a mess of FCL in the first place, it wouldn't be such a big deal to me.

I wouldn’t be bothered about the price if it was on 3 routes that I consider good quality. But I’m quite baffled as to why Skyhook would make a DLC for 2 of Rivet’s less well received routes. I’d really only want it for the AI on Cathcart and it’s a bit pricey for that.

One for the ‘buy later’ list.

Does look nicely done though. I do like the 158 on MML, so I’m sure this will be just as good.

The one thing that would make me buy it is if it gets added to the Fife Circle enhancement mod.

So with the 158 only doing the Leven branch on Fife Circle....that's one service an hour. You'd have thought Rivet would have let the 158 operate additional services to Dundee and Aberdeen.

Interesting to see what the timetabled services and other ai services from other routes are for Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Scenarios could be electric failure so running instead of 385s but timetable doesn’t really work outside depot moves, unless going away from realism.

Hoping they are added to do Glenrothes and Cowdenbeath services once the new leven timetable is added. Completely wasted otherwise as would say I’ve been on more 158s to Dunfermline than 170s

I believe it said there is 1 ECS move for Cathcart with the 158, but otherwise AI-only

Not on Cathcart, as far as i can tell it's just the one ECS move.

If you mean Fife Circle, then yes, 158 services will be added once Rivet does the Leven branch update....whenever that releases is anybody's guess.

Glad to see a timetable update for EG, should bring this route to life. Looking forward to the same happening to Fife.

I will admit that I am not the biggest fan of modern DMUs, however the quality of Skyhooks 158 is high enough for me to really enjoy the experience every time I drive it, so assuming it brings more than a small handful of services to EDG, I will likely pick it up. The day before we found out that it wouldn't be on FCL I had bought that route just to run the 158 on, so will also eagerly await its addition to that route. The price is steep for what it is, but I have all the confidence that it will be worth it once Rivet get FCL to a point where Skyhook can put together a timetable.

A lot of fan boys on here not learning their lesson from previous DLC and the continual DTG trend is clearly not stopping. I'm glad you all have the money to 'test' these products. It's a shambles, it really is.

To me this represents progress for DTG - going back and adding to routes, as they have with Cathcart, WSR etc. I feel like it's to be encouraged.

Looking forward to making my purchase next Thursday, anything that adds more services and variety to older routes can only be a good thing, especially when it's a train that's as decent as the 158.

In fairness, much of us know how high quality the Skyhook 158 is and that security is the only thing making me willing to buy this, even with the very steep price.

It’s still a reskin using largely the same model with a bit of a work over.
TBH £6.99 should be the price pitch for this, particularly as you are forced to buy shonky Rivet routes to run it.

And for the acolytes going, but, but, but… once you’re sat in the cab looking out the front window listening to the engine sound, really there is no difference so far as the actual driving experience is concerned.

Nice try, but at this point in time better things to spend my money on.

Yes, $16.99 is a high price for a reskin with cosmetic changes to the cab and saloon, especially when the route it's supposedly made for isn't ready to receive it.
This kind of dlc with a handful of scenarios thrown in would normally sell for about $9.99 in the TSC catalog.

In reality 158s don't run on cathcart circle services and rarely do you see any 158s in Glasgow Central unless it's doing one shot on a service to Edinburgh via Shotts in game the 158s will be ai only standing in for class 156s the 158 will also have a few ecs runs to Shields depot on cathcart circle

Maybe I haven't noticed or missed it though looking at the screenshots for the class 158 it doesn't look like it has the branding for the wheelchair accessible area and cycle area
    (Green) Cycle area
    (Blue) wheelchair accessible area

Have they been missed out surely Scotrail wouldn't allow that to feature in game like that

Genuine question as I can't access my photo archive to check right now, but do they have them?
I can understand the need for an EMU of 3 or 4 cars, but with a 158 which is 2-car and has fewer doors, they'd always aim for the doors at the middle end of each coach.

I made a suggestion on how we could get more Cathcart Circle route services for the 158 until the day a 156 comes along.

Happy to stand corrected! Going through some video from Leven and there they are. I have never noticed them before - or just never paid attention.

Interested to know when they were added.
