Don't think the moders can get to work until its released. Doubt they have early access.

Sounds a lot of wishful thinking and not much what needs TSW5 tbh, can’t see most of that within the year, maybe TSW12 (2031) might have a chunk of it:)

no guarantee the latest is the greatest.

That's fine and of course there's no guarantee lol.

But, i don't see how anything outside the "fantasy wishlist section" is particularly aspirational?

Suspension, passenger announcements, free roam, and the editor are all in the game already to some degree or another- why can't improvements to them be completed within a year?

But that's also kinda my point about the whole TSW5 "controversy"- i just think about TSW as a franchise as a whole- whatever its particular name/iteration is at any given time doesn't mean anything to me at this point. DTG are putting this annual time pressure on themselves (for business reasons that i don't really care about i'm sure.), so my response is to just not worry about it, play some other games over the summer, and see what's new in the August reveal.

From my perspective, TSW is better than it's ever been, but also has more problems than ever lol.

Guess i just hope the improvements keep up with or surpass the new bugs and legacy code problems lol.

suspension and passenger announcement currently are more like 1 trick ponies, I wouldn’t call them in until it’s a standard. No idea on the time frame question.

up to each how they value there cash, I don’t get paid to stop people getting a bad deal :)

I would say it’s better than it’s ever been minus I can’t really enjoy it much worried a chunk of my content feels like a right off with the long term Xbox graphics issue.

as for the bugs, I guess TSW has never been the game with few of them, and I don’t expect that to change, i think it’s too much of an improvement to expect to see it, especially so soon.

People keep justifying profit via yearly releases using FIFA/Football Manager (which have no/minimal DLC, the yearly update gives you all the new teams/rules, FIFA also tends to have a new story mode each time)
People keep justifying profit via DLC using The Sims, ETS2, TSC (which have no, or large justifiable, new releases - The Sims has had 4 releases in 35 years!)

DTG appear to have seen these two profit models and when asked which one they liked answered, "Yes please!"

I can't think of another game that works this way - yearly releases with minor updates (some of which never even appear) AND a glut of regular DLC. FIFA et al and TSC et al can't keep being used by people to justify having BOTH methods, as they only have one each.
Find a game that does a yearly release with minor updates and the odd bug fix AND multiple new DLC, and then make the comparison.
If you can't, there's a good reason for that - it's a terrible way to treat customers, and most companies know it.

Just found this thread now but I doubt tsw4 leaving gamepass is a sign tsw5 is coming. As last year TSW3 left gamepass on September the 1st after the reveal of TSW4. What I think tsw4 leaving gamepass means is we might be getting an season pass like rush hour as i swear I recall tsw2 leaving gamepass right before the season pass was announced.

Not trying to justify DTG's approach, but EA make billions from FIFA's Ultimate Team DLCs, all of which become obsolete when the next annual release launches.

True, but that's a multiplayer online game mode where people "pay to win" (or have a better chance to win) so I didn't think it was relevant to the single player comparison.
If DTG want to add multiplayer and then sell faster trains for higher prices for racing online in TSW, that'll be the day to pull that comparison out :)

    One question please.
Now TSW4 is leaving Cloud Gaming, I've spent money on additional routes and locos.
Does this mean I've lost all of that even if TSW5 eventually if at all is released on Cloud Gaming.
Had I realized that games were periodically removed I wouldn't have bothered.

from my understanding- if you have brought DLC you own that. If you don’t have the base game (TSW4 for instance) then you wouldn’t be able to play the DLC without buying the base game.

assuming the upcoming announcement is TSW5, if that entered gamepass, and you had it through gamepass then yes all the DLC you owned would be accessible and transfer across (again making the assumption that it works as it has for previous releases)

While any additional DLCs you've bought will transfer to TSW5, you will lose access to ECML, Antelope and Voralberg, if you want to keep them then the cheapest way would be to pick up TSW4 while it's on sale. Once TSW5 launches those routes will only be available as seperate full price DLCs (although they will, of course, have their own sales over time).

Also last year TSW4 was not released day one on Gamepass.

Inf fact the FAQ's said is was not coming to Gamepass.

But they did eventually release it on GP earlier this year.

So you may have a 4-5 month period where a TSW base game is not on GP. Rendering your DLC useless.

I am with you on the pricing but the entire thing is confusing and stupid for the customers, especially people that don't frequent the forums or discords. Trying to make sense of all the various versions of TSW and DLCs in store fronts is getting out of control.

because it means that most dlc gets abandoned. if you’re lucky there’ll be a small update 2 years later

The absolute worst is that ALL routes are reset, and you have to do them all over again. If they at least allowed for syncing trainings/scenarios/journeys/timetables for already completed routes I wouldn't mind, but you literally have to play everything over again.

Unless they fix this in TSW 5...

    It didn't work from Tsw2020 to Tsw2.

So, you are saying that if you've completed a route and acquired all good medals on Tsw2, that when I sync my account to Tsw3 everything will carry over for that route? Including completed scenarios, journeys, route tasks and timetables? What about achievements?

I feel that instead of just making a new game every year DTG could just instead release something of a route pack with 3 DLC at a discounted rate as that is basically what TSW 3 and 4 have been.
I feel players wouldn't be as put off if it was made this way and even though I have bought all of them day one it would definitely make me view it as less of a cash grab and more like a nice route bundle.

I'm not sure about XBox but on Steam when you open TSW3 (or 4) for the first time you should be prompted to import your profile from the previous game. Achievements cannot be automatically carried over (at least on Steam), but will unlock when the game realises you have already completed that achievement.

TSW to TSW2 was the only time you didn’t carry over progress. Every once since has had progression migrate.

As we all know, some of the achievements in these games are beyond ridiculous. Completing all services on a single route is just insane, not to mention several of these. So much of my progress from TSW2020 is left to dry...entire NTP, WSR, 75% GWR, and a good chunk of MSB.

I have been calling for legacy trophies / achievements to be axed as who wants to complete all the scenarios every time for say Great Western ? The statistics I found and I posted about in another thread shows a massive drop off in people unlocking them https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/trophies-achievements-for-future-tsw-titles.82972/

Also instead of launching a new title with 200+ trophies and achievements its just the base title and routes giving more room for trophies and achievements for future dlc. So locos could have trophies again for example. Obviously legacy content can work towards the base achievement / trophies in the title. And axing legacy ones means less chance of broken achievements / trophies in the new title as who would have time to test them all? Its a win win in my book!

All progress has tranferred for me to TSW3 and TSW4 no problems.

On Xbox Series X. I think I remember that being a PS issue if you upgrade from 8th to 9th Gens.

But your scenario achievements didn't carry over and you had to do them again, no?

On Xbox at least just doing one scenario (when they’d been done previously) seems to unlock the relevant achievement.

In TSW3 you had to redo all the scenarios, you also had to redo all the collectables on a fresh profile.

It was much improved in TSW4, if the achievement was for doing all scenarios, just redoing one of them worked, also the collections unlocked the moment you played the relevant route, no need to redo those.

I don't play scenarios so not sure on that one. I'm strictly a timetable person.

I finished TSW 2020 PS4, TSW2 PS5 and TSW3 PS5 (except the broken trophies) working on TSW2 & 3 PS4 and well as some TSW4 PS5. I tried it today on the complete all scenarios if you have already done them just repeating on (usually do a quick one) it does unlock trophy as well as collectables and tutorials just do an extra one again. So yes they have obviously gone in and updated the trophies to unlock easier which I am very glad about as it saves a lot of time. Route level 20 style trophies need to still get to next level though. But in general a big improvement
