Decided to give this free route a try selecting London to Victoria with a Class 465 Southeastern. Allowed the necessary time for passengers to board, went to the Cab view and put the reverser in the Foward position only to be greeted with a high pitch alerter buzz that I can't find the appropriate button or method to turn off.

Check the associated User Manual. It is probably’D’ to acknowledge

If I am correct, I believe you can disable the DSD safety system if you don't want this sound at all. If you want to operate with DSD enabled, you can press the E key to acknowledge the high pitch alert

A questions about the Door Controls under DOO
It says Push T+U or T+O to release the appropriate doors then wait for the "Platform Duties Complete" box to appear before pushing R to close them

It also says "if not at a platform push R at anytime"
So why would the doors be open if not at a platform?

Keys D and E did not stop the tone. Key Q did followed by a "ding".

Is there a way to completely disable the Alerter system?

You seem to be mixing things up as you don't normally get a "ding" when you cancel the DVD Alerter.

When you open the controls and place the reverser in any position away from Off the AWS Sounds until you Cancel it with Q or the button on the desk and the "Ding" then sounds - that same sound you get approaching a Green Signal.

The DVD or Vigilance Device will sound after a period of inactivity and that needs a different key to Cancel
As kilt46 pointed out you can disable that with Ctrl+D

Thanks for the clarification and explanation. In operating the 465, I notice that after canceling the DVD, it automatically gets enabled again after passing through the signal alerter. Can it be permanently disabled?

DVD and Signal Alerter are 2 independent systems. DVD is looking for inactivity within 30 seconds (dead man’s handle).

So your saying that every 30 seconds or less, I must perform some function (throttle, brake or Q key) to prevent the DVD from re=activating, even though I have de-activated it by pressing Ctrl-D.

If you have deactivated it you will not need to respond. Check text put on top right of screen when you select Ctrl+D. This should show whether you have just switched this system on or off.

Not clarified by kilt46 in post #9 is that Ctrl+D Activates the DVD - it is switched off by Default.

This is a simulation of the AWS self-test system; it activates once when the reverser is moved from neutral to forward or reverse (in each cab of the train if more than one are used - e.g. if a change of ends is required for a reversing maneuvre). It can be cancelled by pressing Q on your keyboard within four seconds.

It will subsequently sound when passing over any AWS ramp preceding a signal showing anything other than a clear aspect, and before some speed reduction warning signs (usually where the speed decrease required is 10mph or greater, I believe). In each case it can be cancelled by pressing Q within four seconds.

This system cannot be isolated/turned off.

Just ran one of the bulk standard 465 career scenarios. Once you place into Forward, click on Q to acknowledge then just drive forward.

    Respectfully
