no need for leaks this year, DTG procedures have taken over and made them redundant.

How many times have we been in this situation? TSW 3 leaked by JD on a live stream, TSW 4 leaked on EpicDB, LIRR 2 leaked on PlayStation trophies and DTlive, every time there have been skeptics and everytime they're proved wrong. Twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern, this is a yearly franchise now.

Do you actually say anything positive about TSW? I’d love to read it if you have.

  18. Ive stated previously that Im still on TSW 3. I gotta say, sitting here reading threads like this makes me feel liberated by my choice and a certain sense of deja-vu at the content and tone Im seeing..

If I see a route that I really really would like, Ill get that years iteration. Otherwise for folks like me, theres little point.

If however DTG had released each annual iteration as a patch (it'd be a pretty small patch in all honesty), then I might have been more tempted to impulse buy some DLC. Unfortunately theyre locked behind a paywall so no impulse buying from me.
I guess you reap what you sow, or fail to sow in this case..

It’s not an option for myself really (as I’m not even on the ‘customer list’ at this point) but letting TSW get a year ahead of you is quite a good option to take, dlc and different iterations is likely to be cheaper at that time and for the start year it will be more like the next iteration took 2 years to come about.

all it takes is a year break away.

Technically even SEHS extended wasn't paid for. Yes you needed TSW3 to access it, but from what I recall at the time if you already owned the TSW2 version of SEHS, the extended one would come free for you even if you just bought the US or German edition. The only reason to buy the standard edition was if you didn't yet own SEHS, or if you wanted all three.

That being said, from a development standpoint the extension was done on the back of the budget normally allocated for developing a full new route therefor making SEHS a route developed in two phases, and I would say that approach really worked because by the end of TSW3 it ended up becoming one of the most fleshed out and variety filled routes the UK has to offer, even if apparently a lot of people didn't find much value in the Ashford extension. But I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the fact that some people were able to get this for free might be the reason we don't see extensions done like that anymore.

Even the free remasters that have come out since then have technically had a paid counterpart required to get the full experience, likely this is what funds the development of the remaster itself. Boston - Providence was alongside the Acela. Glasgow Cathcart was alongside the 380. West Somerset was the most free given that it was a spare time project, but the steam timetable does still push sales of Peak Forest, though I highly doubt this was specifically the reason for requiring it and more for lowering the number of addons required to access it.

  21. We need to stop arguing. Otherwise this thread is going to get locked.

you had to buy something, so it was payment required.

Yeah not denying that, there is just the perspective that you were actually paying for the US or German route and SEHS was free as a result. Alternatively, and this is the perspective I personally have, you've paid for both of them collectively at a discount. Regardless of which way you view it however you are right, the purchase of that other route and TSW3 as a whole still paywalled you out of SEHS Extended.
I, probably much like you, rarely judge things based on a technicality.

DTG can be sneaky, like they have with the annual releases brung In a form of subscription by the back door, with them also looking before at bringing in a subscription for the dlc, it’s looking like a subscription within a subscription

incomparable to precisely be like any other game TSW has become in terms of how it works to purchase/release and maintain profit, beyond bad practices in my view

i think the EA strategy is no longer a mentor but a competition to become the worst.

The irony is strong with this one, and obviously only upvoted by people who share that description. But of course it's okay, because they don't have anything negative to say, about a game...

TSW is unfortunately no longer and probably never was a project developed by a small number of passionate people, but a corporate cash cow. Many annoying bugs will never be fixed because there is no financial incentive. The game feeds our virtual train hunger to the tune of at least £30/month and will continue to do so until we stop paying or die. As I was assimilated into the collective years ago I accept this and willingly give up my cash on a regular basis. Looking forward to the Dovetail Direct.

Not true, I have said several times in the past that tsw is by no means perfect and that there are plenty of areas that need improving.

I said, and implied that you side with people who do so... And that is indeed the case as we just saw, you give him a pass because you agree with him on this topic. The fact that his comment (you agree with) that complain about "toxicity" got removed for that very reason says everything I need to know.

Anyway, this is my last message to you, farewell and good luck.

I've started to catch myself thinking that I don't physically have time to play all the routes that tsw has.

And there will be more and more of them, mixed feelings. I don't know how tsw 5 will help here?

Amen to that! Add to that all the content I have in TSC, then there’s the other train games, the truck games, the bus games, the FPS games etc etc. Currently in TSC I’m trying to do a strict alphabetical playthrough of all my routes though it can be hard to maintain the discipline particularly when you buy new content. Might have to adapt the same stance towards TSW but the point is, becomes much harder to justify buying new stuff unless it is a must have route (or traction), made to top quality. So that’s why neither of the two new(ish) Rivet Scottish routes are in my collection, also I own both in TSC, or Semmering which again I can drive in TSC.

I mean you don't have to play/buy every route? TSW was from the beginning something where you have your own personal collection of routes that you like´.

    • Like Like x 5
  39. Very much this. I (and mother of all assumptions- I assume Im not alone) tend to play just a few routes because I like to play hudless as far as possible and immerse myself in the route. Knowing the route is therefore necessary, a finite proposition for me.

To a certain extent, in fact to a very large extent, this whole debate is pointless. If you want all the routes then youre going to subscribe to the DTG model. If you dont but see something you really like, youll get the iteration that contains that route. If youre in the middle of those positions youll flip either way. Its on DTG how much that hurts or helps their business model, but for us as induhviduals (Dilbert reference) its really a personal thing. A homogenous collective perspective isnt possible.

On another note, theres a lot of pointless personal attacks. Try to be the person who doesn't respond, or if you must use a smiling emoji or something. That way you can feel good instead of triggered, and the oxygen in the moment is removed..

I mean, if you want to get the new iterations of each TSW, the "cheapest/best value" offering is the usual 3 route bundle, which may or may not include a route or routes you do not want to play or own.

Take a look at last year's bundles as an example, $40 USD for each of the regional bundles, but $50 for the Standard bundle. So you might as well fork the extra $10 on the standard edition.
    home-bundle-info.jpg

You can't even just buy TSW4 as a standalone, you HAVE to own one of the bundles. (Even though Steam lists it at $19.99) So if you aren't even interested in a route in a years bundle, you still have to own something you may never play, if you want that years TSW version.
    aaaaa.png

At least one good news is the later sales if one doesn't have a case of FOMO, or want to save money.

  41. Agree ^
IF I want to buy TSW4 to get access to a DLC I want, why do I need to buy 3 DLC I dont want to get it? Its this type of business practice I and I suspect many find off-putting.
Can it be coincidence that the 3 DLC in the pack work out as £9.99 each? I suspect not.
The kind view is that its very nice to have an offer, but it would be nice for that offer to be an optional buy in. The less kind view is that it is overtly exploitative, and is indeed designed to lock DLC behind a paywall packaged as a deal. Like the good analogy suggests, you can wrap it up in the finest paper, but if its excrement its still going to pong a bit..

This is mainly what I do in my livestreams, or if I want to drive a route and not sure what one to drive. I have all my TSW routes* written on post it notes and in an old bag (that had my headphones to store in). Literally I give the bag a good shuffle and just pull a route out. What ever it is I drive it. Now whether or not I do a scenario , Service or Journey is done in exactly the same way. Also in the bag of routes I have jump straight in -30 and Jump & Straight in +30. Yeah imagine picking out Jump Straight in +30 when I am nearing the end of my livestream and its a 90 minute scenario on Cajon....... Been there and got the T-shirt lol. It's good for the livestreams as I have no idea what routes I will be driving.

*This also includes all the remasters and nnew timmetables Like Rapid Transit 2017 and Rapid Transit 2020 (what ever year it was).

Given the " buyer's remorse " I feel about buying the deluxe edition of TSW4, I will not have any feelings of FOMO about not repeating that purchase with TSW5.

All the buzz on the forum is about the expected UK route. No- one is leaking or talking about any US dlc. Not surprising since NA content has been essentially abandoned except for Metrolink Part II.
