My idea is if you own one of the many TSW versions you get TSW5 for free or dirt cheap (no more then AU$2.50) as an upgrade, the catch would be you only get the title of TSW5 and any of the DLC that you own that would have carried over, you would get none of the new routes or locos that can be usually got through a standard purchase. This would be doable through Steam but am not sure about the other platforms.
Agree. Id almost certainly buy more DLC if this was the case. I havent bought anything since TSW3 because I want to buy what I want, not some packaged deal Im not interested in.
A small loyalty discount is possible but getting it for free is completely off the table, never gonna happen
Some would argue youve already bought it as the previous iteration, and that any upgrades are so marginal (if any) that you are effectively paying for a patch, or you have a free upgrade that isnt really an upgrade but rather a label with nothing changed under the hood or an upgrade of marginal worth likely introducing bugs but which you cant roll back on (unlike a patch), which you are coerced to purchasing with a sale on a bundle of routes that you may not want but are nevertheless obligated to buy in order to gain access to the singular DLC you would like.. But I agree, never going to happen.
Rush hour was a free update and TSC still does free updates yeah but the difference is TSW 5 is mostly likely gonna be a separate game and we have no reason to believe they’ll go back to the ways things were, I still think it’s unlikely. Also TSW 2 was still a separate purchase from TSW 2020, were as people who bought TS 2014 are still playing the same TS, it’s just called TSC 2024 now
Oh look, it’s another TSW5 thread. Expect the discounts will be as previous, various level of package from basic with one route to deluxe with three routes plus any loco packs.
I imagine 2 of those additions on the roadmap will be locos (maybe 3?). I hope they don’t do the same as last year where they arbitrarily lock them into the most expensive bundle & or put them behind a 30 day lockout. Depends on what they are of course. Anyway, a TSW5 megathread would be nice.
Separate game by name only, Rush Hour probably brought more functionalities than TSW4 so far. It even included a UE version change.
TSW3 had a version that came with only the training centre for people who wanted to upgrade but didn't want the new routes. DTG soon removed it because new customers were buying it and getting confused as to why they didn't have Kassel-Wurzburg, Cajon Pass, or Southeastern Highspeed Extended (I am guessing they just looked at the cheapest one and got it, which I can't really blame them for).
The bottom line is that those of us who bought the various iterations of TSW4 did not receive the full core features/updates that were promised. So why would we believe that TSW5 will be any different. If I don't like any of the three routes that are offered, I'll just take a pass and maybe wait for a sale. If I do want the US offering, I'll go with the least expensive bundle that includes it. If it's San Bernardino, my money will stay in my Steam Wallet or go elsewhere.
TSC is not TSW. So comparing the 2 is like apples and oranges. Update would probably be like TSC of thia were a PC only game. But it's not at least 60% are on console. Consoles require something you may have heard called "certification". That costs money so guess who covers that cost. The people who demand the upgrade be free keep thinking of it as a PC pricing model. This isn't, it is a console pricing model in the vein of EA, 2K, and other very profitable console games. It how you grow your company to be as successfull as possible. The goal is to be is always to be #1 or else whats the point. And no DTG don't care about their customers, this isn't Dr.Phil games. They are interested in our opinions and fix what they can fix for us as consumers but make no mistake it is all about the money. It's a business, I'm pretty sure Ronald McDonald only cares about selling burgers and not you. If you want caring and free go to a charity that is why they are there.
True. They should have a look at how they want to sell us the most expensive bundle. The 30 day lockout for single routes or smaller packages doesn't look good. It's too obvious and looks greedy and does not make sense. I think the pricing looked very good for TSW4 to go for the deluxe edition. If you really wanted to go for a smaller bundle or a single route purchase you probably had a good reason for it so why punish these people with time penalties? Make the deluxe offering even more of a no brainer purchase instead of locking players out of buying content. It does not make sense refusing to sell DLC because you did not buy the Deluxe edition. Sometimes I buy a standard version of a game I don't know much about and get hooked immediately and have paid more than if I had bought the deluxe edition to begin with within 1 to 2 days after purchasing the standard version. Maybe it's a good idea to make a temporary Direct section on the forum with a speculation sub section for all the TSW5 treads?
I can really see things being free if the last few days turned out to be true. I hope the price is £5 more because of the idiots...
Could also have class 390 and class 90 as well, Though if licencing is an issue it could be set in BR electrified era with classes 86, 305, 309,
I regret buying TSW4, I certainly will not be paying out any more for any more TSW editions. End of story..
