    Train Simulator: BNSF ES44AC & SD40-2 Loco Add-On on Steam (steampowered.com)

I find it amusing that the negative reviews for this pack are largely based on people not doing much research into the pack. For context, (IIRC) before the BNSF ES44 and SD40-2 were added to the US Loco and Asset Pack they were available separately with scenarios in this pack. The locos were later added to the pack, but the DLC remained available, with the scenarios and possibly wagons being exclusive to the pack. A common complaint in reviews is that the advertised scenarios aren't included. They are, but don't appear properly as they were never updated for modern TS versions, therefore showing no locos in the scenario list. They are there and working in reality.

While the pack doesn't have much purpose now, I think it is a cool oddity from the early days of TS and I bought it a while back for the sake of completion. It's bad for today's standards, but it is disappointing to see it reviewed the way it is.

It's like that with DLC that have problems on release. "BUGGED PRODUCT, DO NOT BUY" is still there from those days even if it's fixed a week later, but for years you are being told don't waste your money on what is now potentially a fine product. The Metropolitan rings a bell.

BTW, the pack you reference is what I call "the original DLC". Item 24012 - two higher than TSC itself. Isle of Wight comes in at 24021, then we start hitting retired trains in the RSDL 08, RSDL 66 with the wagons included, and the old Class 08.

I didn't know about it being the first DLC, that's really interesting. The Frankfurt High Speed extension is also one that has overly negative reviews, mostly because of people who don't understand how route extensions work. Sometimes I wish Steam allowed developers to remove reviews that are just incorrect.

Why worry about Steam reviews? They're targeted at the devs, and some do have a point - some don't.

Stuff similar to the BNSF pack has long been withdrawn from british content, like the IHH stuff that served as a base for later RSC/DTG content, or RSDL Class 66 etc... its prehistoric and has been surpassed by better models. I can understand someone buying this being disappointed - but then it doesn't matter to me if someone else likes it or not.

I was fairly disappointed buying the JT Class 60 Advanced recently - it's horribly outdated but still sold at full price (like other JT stuff too, some of their routes are gems, some are rubbish.) MJW has done a better version for free based on the better DTG model (presumably done by Reppo by the looks of it, nice soft edges are a trademark of his).

One thing the RSDL Class 66 had was a wagon pack that has now also vanished. Would be nice to have those back for compatibility with old scenarios. Just bundle them with the new one. LOL

Can be seen from two perspectives - either a preservationist one for historical reasons, or you could update all those precious scenarios to use modernised versions of the original stock and make them fun to play again.

I mean I recently downloaded a long scenario for Marsdonshire from the Workshop. Coal train hauled by two 37's from the BR Blue pack. Of course I've immediately replaced them with my AP Class 37, that's what I bought it for, not only for AP scenarios.

There were both UK and US wagon packs. Other than for scenarios there's not much reason to have them as all of the included wagons and their liveries have been included in other packs.

This is true in most cases, yes. I know the IHH bonus was not in some cases, but that is an exception. Still wish we had newspaper vans again.

I was referring to the RSDL/RSC wagon packs, but yes I agree that the IHH content is sorely missed... Not for its quality, but for its variety.

What newspaper vans? I recall a scenario on L2B preparing a BR Blue newspaper/parcels train to be then hauled by a Class 73. Might wanna play these again.

And have you checked all MatrixTrains / FastLine / DPSimulation / SteamSoundsSupreme and DigitalTraction stock?

I am referring to the GUV Blue Newspapers. They also have a Blue Express Parcels and a Maroon variant in the bonus pack. The most curious item is the Summers Hopper which I am certain has not been remade, but things like the Iron Ore Tippler probably exist elsewhere.

I did look through DT stock at the time I did the search. I am not familiar with MatrixTrains' inventory, however. I don't think SSS had them either, and Fastline...do purchases still work through their sales portal even though the original site is apparently gone?.

And what do you see in my screenshot? That's where they are now, in the BR Blue Pack 2. About the Maroon one, no idea. Fairly easy to do a repaint yourself, probably a two minute job :). If it's not actually existing. There's still a huge load of Marketplace stock I haven't checked (and probably don't really need as it's very specific stuff)

Just meaning to say lots of the old stuff made its way into newer DLC.

Yeah, I know the Deltics definitely did, and the 47s. In fact, one of the DTG 47s is the IHH one.

The UK wagon pack was available with the original Class 66 pack when it was "Railworksified". The US Wagon pack is still available I think, with the CN Widenose pack

It is really? I had no idea that was where it ended up, and I have been searching for it. Time to see if I have it.

EDIT: Yup, I own that. I'll have to poke around on old scenarios and consider that wagon pack as owned now.

The BNSF Loco Pack was a bonus pack that was only included in the Download version of RailWorks (not in the DVD version).

That's really interesting. Was there anything else included?

Trying to sort the information, reading the old threads on Rail-Sim.de.

Somewhere it was mentioned "A Thorny Matter" scenario on Cajon Pass was also an exclusive scenario.

I have that scenario. I actually did redeem a key from an Ebay buy of the game, and fortunately I managed to point out to that seller that the CD itself is useless if the code does not work, so we managed to run that sale as a no shipment (which made it cheaper too). It's why I have all of the fictional routes in original form, not just the Workshop versions.

Here is the details of the retail purchase version: https://steamdb.info/sub/11655/apps/

Notice the scenarios are in "Railworks 3 LegacyScenariosCP" which comes with the DLC as currently sold, so I don't know about this as a bonus scenario. I know the version sold on the Just Trains site does have bonus scenarios and includes the RSDL 08. They are for "Rail Simulator", however.

It was a bonus scenario for those who purchased RailWorks on Steam back then, and not the DVD version which was only activated on Steam. I think we all have that scenario :)

It is such a shame that IHH is not around any more. There are a lot of people who wish that this would be available again.

IHH sold their IP to DTG, who used the models as a base for many of their later content.
