    Hi All,

Just registered, I play TSW3 and 4 on console but I’m considering finding a used gaming PC or laptop to use TS classic. I specifically want to use the WCML route from Euston to Birmingham. I’ve seen a few YouTube videos showing the class350 being used on this route and also including the Northampton loop. Is there any docs or lists of everything I’d need to get to this working? Obviously the computer and base game but I get the impression that there’s quite a lot of addons required too?

    thanks

    Andy.

    Welcome Andy.

I can recommend the WCML South, and you don't need anything else but a basic installation of Train Simulator Classic.

The route comes with all the stock.

Unfortunately, you've missed the big Summer Sale.

thanks very much for clarifying that. I’ll take a further look into it. I’ve still got to find a computer to run it on yet so it will be a while before I buy any software.

I know with a lot of games, computer spec can have a massive effect on the running of the game, is that the case with TS classic or is it old enough and basic enough that spec is much less important?

If you're looking to get a PC to run Train Simulator Classic on I would recommend simple, powerful and as feature lite as possible. I remember having issues with freezes on Train Simulator Classic on advanced hardware which lead me to buy an old workstation that doesn't have bluetooth or wi-fi, or much else for that matter. With simple fast hardware and a clean operating system environment Train Simulator Classic runs nicely. I think DTG have been trying to improve reliability in recent releases.

Train Simulator Classic is fun and has many merits over Train Sim World in terms of a driving simulator.
    Enjoy your new hobby!

that’s really useful thank you. I’m keeping an eye out for machines near to me and I’ll bear that all in mind.

While TS and WCMLS will be enough to get started, if you want a better experience you may want to check the following third party packs:
As for the Northampton branch, it was inexplicably not included with the base route and I am not aware of any third party patches that add it.

I’m actually only really interested in WCML to begin with as it will help me with route learning.
After that I’m sure I’ll get more interested in expanding into other routes though

Any thoughts on the following spec for running the game? I know it’s very limited detail but it’s all that’s in the advert

    1660ti, i5-10400F, 16gb ram and Corsair 550cv

It'll run it just fine, just don't be too overly optimistic with your graphics settings at first and don't ever expect 144 fps (even with a 4090 super graphics card and an i9 you'd only achieve 60 ish on max settings) this isn't CS:GO where fps and ping are everything if you get a stable 30 fps and the graphics look acceptable then your on track for a pleasant rail experience.. ;)

Might be worth upgrading your RAM to at least 32gb though.

Processor with high single core performance is the most important thing.

The i5 10400f can turbo up to 4.30ghz on a single core so yeah I think it's capable.

It's more important than your GPU (which nowadays is made for much bigger tasks and complex shaders, than rendering a DX9 world).

GHz is misleading, its the (million) instructions per second (MIPS) that's important. i5 should be considered lower end for TSC. I had an i7 for 11 years, then upgraded to an i9. It was worth it.

Which is why the only thing I recommended was an upgrade to their RAM. :)
