Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: • TSC only shots allowed. • Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. • You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. • 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. • Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). • The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). • The Judge of the week's decision is final. • We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. • Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9PM GMT on Friday, August 2nd 2024 and will be judged by me - Blazin In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 17:00 on August 4th, 2024 a new thread will be created using the results of this weeks poll. The theme for this week is: Record Breakers Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
Route: South London Network Train: Class 375 Ah yes, the electrostar. The series with the highest amount of trains in the UK.
Route: Semmeringbahn Train: OBB 1116 Here we have, what used to be the most powerful locomotive in the world.
With the theme being "Record Breakers" it would have been just downright rude not include Class A3 4472 "Flying Scotsman". Possibly the most famous of the UK Steam Loco's as it set two world records for steam traction, becoming the first locomotive to reach the officially authenticated speed of 100 miles per hour (161 km/h) on 30 November 1934, and the fully restored example setting the longest non-stop run of a steam locomotive of 422 miles (679 km) on 8 August 1989 while on tour in Australia.
And while on theme of UK "Record Breaking" Kettles the Nigel Gresley designed LNER A4 "Mallard" is recognised worldwide as the fastest ever Steam Loco, recording a top speed of 126mph back in 1938. Here she is seen at a much more sedate pace crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle - Carlisle Line.
The moment when driver Duddington gets the 'right away' from Grantham to begin his record-breaking descent of Stoke Bank for the World Steam Speed record.
The Class 91 held the UK speed record of 162mph achieved in 1989, seen here in GNER livery at London Kings Cross.
Class 390 Pendolino holds the Polish speed record of182mph (293km/h), Here we see it on UK metal as it approaches Preston at a more sedate 30 mph.
In my limited research (5 mins in Google) this 'ol A3 60106 'Flying Fox' has a record of its own and that is the highest mileage of any U.K. steam locomotive with over 2.6 million miles travelled. Source the RCTS Locomotives of the LNER part 2a page 71. Was there a steam loco with higher mileage?
Yet another A3 record breaker going back to LNER era in 1935 2750 'Papyrus' achieved four world records. While some doubt was raised as to whether 4472 Flying Scotsman actually hit 100mph there is no doubt 2750 did. A distance of 12.3 miles run at 100.6 mph. An aggregate of 500 miles in one day run at an average speed of 72.7 mph with a 217-ton train. An aggregate of 300 miles in one day’s round trip at an average speed of 80 mph. A maximum speed of 108 mph. Some things to note is C J Allen was aboard both trains and recorded their speeds he logged 4472@98mph, they were lighter than the full express service they were over 400 ton depending on the type of coaches' If I recall BR Mk1 consist was 417 ton. Source: Preserved British Steam locomotives Ignore the Mk1 consist in the background they didn't exist in 1935 :P
The British Rail Class 08 is the most produced locomotive class in Britain, with 996 produced between 1953 and 1962. The Class 08 is a standard diesel locomotive designed for shunting, and is the successor to a successful series of diesel shunting locomotives produced by the LMS. Loco:- Class 08 Route:- JT MML (Barrow Hill Extension)
Thank you everyone for your submissions for the week! Here are the winners! In 3rd place is cscarpenter with their unique and fun screenshot of a rainbow-like line of Class 08s. This does very well to demonstrate the variety and number of Class 08s that were out there (and still are!). A quick side note but honestly one day would love to see some kind of DLC pack for the range of Class 08-like locos we don't have in the game (the Class 10, 11, 12 & 13 especially). I reckon those lesser known types would be lots of fun to have! In 2nd place is Craigie-C with this awesome shot of the ever iconic 'Mallard' crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct. I mean where can you go wrong with such an iconic record breaker? The lighting over the bridge and train is gorgeous as well. Early morning / late afternoon light always looks lovely on bridges and makes the 'Mallard' in it's wonderful blue stand out amongst the darker colours. In 1st place is I`m a railfan obviously with this really lovely shot!! I have quite a bit to talk about for this one; first of all I love this choice for a record breaker. When people think "record breaker" they often won't think of trains like the EuroSprinter. Not only is this type absurdly powerful for an electric locomotive produced ever since the mid 1990s but they're fast too holding the record for fastest conventional electric locomotive at 357 km/h (222 mph) which is incredible for a locomotive like this where it definitely combines the power of a freight locomotive with the speed of a passenger locomotive! Other than the record breaker itself; I really like the atmosphere of this shot. The cloudy sky making things a tad bit dark as the train travels through the dense forests of Austria with the perspective showing the rich vegetation even creeping onto the track a bit. Well done! We look forwards to your theme for next week I`m a railfan obviously !
Thanks a lot for the win Blazin! I will have the thrad set up in a bit. Congratulations to everyone for their absolutely amazing shots aswell.
