    Guys,

I've had TSW4 running great since I got my new 7800XT & upgraded my CPU to the 5800X3D. I've been struggling to find a good middle ground with FS2020, though. During an immense amount of reading in the last 36 hours, the discussions on the MSFS forums point out the pitfalls of using AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) on a system that can't natively hit 60 to 70 FPS on it's own with no enhancements active.

Today, I ran a test here on the updated ToD4 Cathcart with the 380. I set my FPS limiter in the sim to 'unlimited' with AFMF & Anti-Lag disabled, and was regularly able to pull 90 to 105 FPS at 1440p with JetWash's latest 'Ultra' preset loaded. The one caveat to doing this was that my GPU utilization was almost always pegged between 98-100% (and I could clearly hear the fans ramp up on my card). I went back in and pinned the FPS to 70 max & saw the GPU substantially cool down & relax to about 71-73% utilization. The only time I saw the FPS dip was during rapid 'head turn' camera movements.

So the question to my fellow AMD owners - does the native performance of the sim pinned at say 60 or 70 FPS support the use of AFMF & Anti-Lag, or should I just leave the sim pinned at 70 FPS with no AMD enhancements?

Honestly with a top of the line card, I would leave the Anti-Lag on and disable the Fluid Motion Frames since you shouldn't need it. What you should try to fix though is the cooling at max usage so that you can use the card fully without drawbacks. Have you thought about adding some case fans? And can you try running FurMark to see what temperatures you are going to get under load?

For example my RX 6700xt Nitro (which uses just 30 watts less power) can easily run at max load with prettymuch no fan usage. All thanks to good case cooling.

FurMark.jpg My case cooling is pretty good. Here's my results at 1440p:

And that comes out with little to no fan noise? Because if it doesn't, I would start looking if there isn't a custom fan curve set up somewhere. Either in AMD Adrenalin or some other utility that you might have installed. Though that's unlikely because even FurMark is showing 30% fan rpm.

Also 60 seconds is pretty short for getting a good max temperature reading. Especially with a massive cooler like this. You should launch the infinite test and wait for the curve to stabilize (which should happen in about 5 minutes). Also try to get the temperature reading of the hotspot (or whatever it's called on the 7000 series) instead of just the core because I believe that's what decides the fan speed.

edit: Ups. The Hotspot temp is there and quite fine but still, I would try a longer run.
