On the rare occasion you would get the odd chuff sound, more so when it was light loco but believe me, this bug is deffo not fixed! Probably never will be either

For a second there you really just got my hopes up, but they just collapsed to the floor like a tired elephant. I have already had my daily TSW steam abandonment moan this evening, but this bug is another level of frustration. It is not like we are asking for new DLC here, or a full scale reworking (even if these are both needed), we are literally asking for DTG to fix a bug with a train which has a significant impact on the gameplay. Ludicrous it is still persisting to this day.

Yes you'd have thought they would fix this at least. It's immersions breaking.

When the class 104 is ready, I can't wait for the preview stream. When they pass a silent mineral train it will stand out like a sore thumb.

Silence only exceeded by the EP and CM’s on the stream immediately responding, “Moving on…” to the inevitable questions.

Yes it will likely be glossed over. The optimist in me is hoping that this might at least be one thing they will look at fixing for the class 104 release but I doubt it.

When it sounds too good to be true ............ ya know.

Just spawned at Peak Forest, but nope, the AI Fowler is quieter than one of those modern electric cracker boxes.

Mind, the 104 still seems to be mired in development hell. Not much chance of it appearing before TSW5 I would have thought.

Several months ago I was spawned on foot on the West Somerset, I think it was at Bishops Lydeard but I'm not sure. The Flying Scotsman was running round it's train and I swear it made chuffing sounds as it moved off. I also thought "great, it's been fixed" but I never heard any other of the steam locomotives do it and I haven't been back to see if I could repeat the experiment. Perhaps I was hearing things.

The AI steam sounds are there but they're very buggy and intermittent when they want to work, I took this video to show DTG Matt the issue earlier this year.

You might need to watch the video on YouTube as it's unlisted on my channel as it was for a bug report as well.

The a.i. sound, where the loco acelerates silent is someting which was reported multiple times even at release of Spirit of steam, basicly day1.

Very poor show that it hasnt been fixed.

In TSW, I have a feeling AI trains are different in the way they use sounds to the player-controlled trains. AI trains use a much simplified physics model so the AI sounds are also likely simplified. It seems with steam the sounds are much more linked to the physics; the synchronised hissing and chuffing is perhaps not possible with AI trains' simplified physics? Either that or the steam audio uses more simultaneous sounds, which make using them for AI hits some kind of game (or UE) audio limitation. Only the developers know, but to my knowledge they haven't been forthcoming about why this has been a problem from the beginning, after the fanfare of SoS.

When it comes to steam, there's a stoney silence - and I don't just mean the AI sounds; the problem has clearly got buried on the 'too hard' pile. In an alternative reality, we might hope that steam has been secretly worked on in the background all this time so that when the 104 is released we also get a fix for many of steam's issues, making Peak Forest and SOS born again!

If dtg would just make them make any sound would be nice. Just the same chuffing on a loop would be better than silent trains passing by.

Sorry mate I did think wow its been fixed. I've never ever in the history of tsw heard a ai steam train make any noise. Then that glorious moment arrived and just as quickly it was gone.
