Introduction: With the release of the scotrail class 158 for train sim world, rivet's Edinburgh-Glasgow route got an updated timetable. And although it has some improvements, such as the correct formations on alloa-glasgow, and edinburgh-glasgow services, it still feels lacking in certain ai. This suggestion will help fix the timetable, and show what could be done to make the timetable better. Services: A lot of services on the new timetable are missing, which include class 170 services from glasgow queen street, and services from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, Perth, Dundee, and Inverness. I personally feel a timetable set in around 2018 would give the best playable opportunity for the class 158 and 170, as this was also around the time scotrail had just got their inter7city Class 43s, so they may still be suitable to be used in the GWE livery. Here is a list of what services depart from each station, that could be simulated in game. Edinburgh waverley: 4TPH Edinburgh to Glasgow queen street/RTN. Base timetable Accurate timetable (I have added a few extra trains for ECS moves and as static to add a bit of extra population) Glasgow queen street: 4TPH Glasgow queen street-Edinburgh/RTN OP: Scotrail (express) Class 385, Class 380 Calls at: Croy, Falkirk high, Polmont, Linlithgow, Haymarket, Edinburgh Driveable 2TPH Glasgow Queen street-Alloa OP: Scotrail Class 158, Class 170 Calls at: Bishopbriggs, Lenzie, Croy Driveable as far as croy (may terminate at stirling) 1TPH Glasgow queen street-Inverness OP: Scotrail Class 158, Class 170, Class 43 AI only (nonstop until stirling) 1TPH Glasgow queen street-Aberdeen OP: Scotrail Class 158, Class 170, Class 43 AI only (nonstop until stirling) 1TPH Glasgow queen street-Dundee OP: Scotrail Class 158, Class 170 AI only (nonstop until stirling) 2TPD Glasgow queen street-Perth Op: Scotrail Calls at: Bishopbriggs, Lenzie, Croy Class 158, Class 170, Class 43 Driveable as far as croy 1TPH Glasgow queen street-Falkirk grahamston OP: Scotrail Class 385 AI only 1TPH Glasgow queen street-Anniesland OP: Scotrail Class 158, Class 170, Class 156 (If added) AI only 4TPD Glasgow queen street-Oban/Mallaig OP: Scotrail Class 156 (if added, 158 will substitute for the time being) AI only Base timetable Accurate (Screenshots captured in free roam) Overall: Although the class 158 wouldn't have as many passenger services as on the current timetable, it would still have a good number of Driveable services, which includes ECS moves, Driveable services, and more. And players would have the choice to drive a lot more than just the 385 and 158s. I have based rolling stock on what was used around the second half of 2018, with alloa and dunblane services being ran by DMUs, and with 380s operating alongside the 385s.
Would also be good to add in the peak time services that leave Edinburgh & Glasgow on the hour and half past that call at Bishopbriggs, Lenzie, Falkirk High & Haymarket. These do not call at Croy or Linlithgow. I would also like to see the late services added too. This would add additional variation to gameplay.
This is the scale I first thought that Skyhook would do in the Sprinter Timetable and for it to be at least more populated at EDB and GLQ, not the timetable it currently is. Perhaps this could be a project for DTG to embark on with a 'Joetable' but one route having three different timetables by three different developers seems unpractical though. LucaZone, maybe something to consider for future updates to the timetable, maybe not to the proposed scale, but at least try to populate Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street a bit more so it accurately represents how busy those two stations are in real-life using what the OP has provided above?
Hiya, Thanks for the thread and suggestions about improving the Sprinter timetable. The reality is that the majority of the suggestions are actually already implemented in the existing timetable. The big exceptions being: Services to Dundee and Perth (we're currently working on adding these) Anything to Glasgow Central (we're looking at adding these) Anything that operates out of the east side of Edinburgh Waverley (as commented elsewhere, the player cannot access this area to see them and they would not affect how busy the west side of Edinburgh feels anyway). We're currently working on: Converting any AI trains that run a fair distance along the E2G route to player drivable by having these trains stop at their boundary station to allow for the AI/Player switchover. Sharing Aberdeen/Inverness services between CL170s and HSTs rather than exclusively HSTs as current. Handing over some CL385 duties to CL380s by popular demand (everyone has acknowledged 380s don't operate these lines). The 'representative' screenshots included are tough because they represent a single 'moment' in time. As fast as trains arrive, others depart. At Edinburgh at 9:29 in the Sprinter Timetable, there are four of the six trains you picture, almost as you show them. At 9:28 one of them is arriving and at 9:30 two of them depart. So only for that one minute is the pictured line up provided. You even comment that static trains have been added to improve population! Which leads me on to a final point >> 'Platform Stacking'. We're aware there is a level of multiple trains being stacked into the same platforms at Edinburgh and Glasgow meaning some trains can arrive and then sit idle for long periods while other trains pull in behind and depart some time later. This can add significantly to the busy feel of these stations. The same platforms in TSW are not setup to accept this kind of operation so its one in, one out and that's it. There is nothing Skyhook can do about that. Meanwhile over at Glasgow Central on the Cathcart route, DTG has clearly spent a fair amount of time getting this operation to work in their updated Class 380 timetable. DTG had control over both the timetable and the route to achieve that. Rest assured, we've been reading all the feedback, we're working on improvements, and we hope to talk more about these soon.
