Find faults, flip switches, get technical and make use of a new cab car! TSG’s DB BR 101 Expert loco Add-on is out now!

    DB BR 101 Expert
    [IMG]

If you’re new to the idea of an ‘Expert’ loco, this Add-on is a much more complex, challenging and detailed version of the previous DB BR 101 locomotive Add-on that was released in 2021.

This has been in development by the TSG team for over a year, with details and insight of their progress being revealed over the last few Train Sim World Roadmaps.

The Add-on features a level of interaction that requires considerable knowledge of the real-world locomotive’s systems and requires use of a Manual to understand some of the processes that are simulated.

Additional tasks that players can conduct include:
    • Cold Starting the locomotive
    • Entering Train Data
    • Managing Faults through a Fault Simulation and rectifying them accordingly
3 tutorials are included to introduce players to these processes, along with a 20-minute tutorial which introduces the Expert variant of the DB BR 101.

Minor features that add a further level of immersion to the gameplay include the windscreen fog simulation, that requires use of the demister and temperature dials to clear the view, as well as the finite lifespan of both the sander and the battery... they can both run out if used too much!

An extensive Manual has already been provided by the TSG team and there options for an accessible mode which allow players to operate the new Add-on in less technical manner, as they would with other Train Sim World locomotives. (The German version of this Manual can be found here)

As well as additional gameplay offered by deeper interaction with the BR 101’s systems, both sound and physics improvements have been made over the original loco Add-on, including new recordings to complement the original sounds.

Both MFA and MFD variants of the 101’s cab are available to operate, with train data input differing between two. The MFA cab sees this data entered via a manual panel behind the driver, whereas the MFD cab has this input within the left-hand interactive screen.

Two liveries are also available: the IC white livery and DB red livery.

    IC Steuerwagen / Cab Car
    [IMG]

Also included in this Add-on is the brand-new IC Steuerwagen cab car. This addition to Train Sim World’s DB fleet also comes with the additional detail of train inputs and fault finding found in the 101, but like the 101 can be operated in an accessible mode too.

    Timetable & Scenarios
On release, the DB BR 101 ‘Expert’ will have (copied) timetable services on Nahverkehr Dresden and Bahnstrecke Salzburg – Rosenheim route Add-ons. The latter will also have 4 Scenarios available to play, 3 with the 101 and another with the Cab Car.

Of course, players will also be able to utilise the locomotive on any Germany route Add-on by spawning into timetable mode or via Free Roam. Neither of the above routes are a requirement to do this.

Preview Steam Breakdown – all you need to know!

If you missed our preview stream of the DB BR 101 ‘Expert’, you can still head over to Youtube and Switch where Jan and Lukas take you through some of the finer details of this ‘Expert’ Add-on.

Uhm ... "no it isn't" and "not working well" isn't the same.

Let's find out in 3 hours or maybe one of the developers could answer this (for me) extremely important question. I'll get the DLC anyway, even when the RailDriver implementation follows with an patch

Haha - that'll be some good entertainment. That's what I like about him. Just watching someone play a game I can play myself is pretty boring, especially if it's a "just follow the rules" type of game like TSW. If you want to be successful in that respect, you'll have to offer more than just record your game and comment on it.

But Sam manages to be highly entertaining in whatever he does. Sort of like that funny uncle who's always made you laugh when you were a kid.

Not quite sure where to put this since there’s no general discussion of the expert 101 with any real traction and I didn’t want to revive the older thread, but here we go.

I’m amazed at what everyone involved in this DLC managed to put together. Walking into the cab, doing a cold start, seeing the screens agonisingly slowly booting up, fiddling with the air rack, checking fuses, inputting train data, … Astonishing. Nothing short of it.

And in answer to concerns that the driving experience itself (which is of course most of the normal gameplay) is the same as with the DTG 101, I think nothing could be further from the truth. For me, the whole driving experience is transformed. The soundscape is vastly improved and much closer to what I’m used to from real life. Furthermore, the way the loco now reacts to and interacts with adjusting the throttle and/or brakes is much better and (again) so much closer to what these locos feel like in real life.

And the interactable displays do the rest to truly sell the illusion of being in the cab of a real loco. This is precisely what I was hoping trains in TSW would eventually evolve into. The ability to walk around in TSW gives it a tremendous potential for these sorts of fully simulated locos.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this loco. It’s an amazing showcase of what is technically achievable in TSW. Worth every single penny and more.

since you might actually have some experience, I am going to ask sth - I was testing Sifa, well, more of training how to recover from a Sifa Zwangsbremsung should it happen (sometimes when I am sleepy or lose focus it might happen)... on Kassel Wurzburg I had no trouble recovering from even multiple Sifa penalty applications (of course I was doing it on purpose), while on Dresden Riesa the brakes took too long to release and I ended up stopping almost every time...

so my question is, besides pressing Q (Sifa button on PC) and putting throttle to off, then once the traction lock is released, apply power again, is there anything I can do to make those brakes release faster so I keep moving?

Not much. You could hold the indirect brake in release (remember the Füllstoß etc. we were talking about?) which should help speed things up but other than that, you’ll just have to wait it out.

I really like this DLC. It's definitely a lot better than the other Br101 and was definitely worth the price. However, I noticed four bugs/missing features:

    1. There are no rain effects on the IC Steuerwagen.

    2. Maddy said in the stream that every IC Expert Coach should have the function to individually control the lights and the climate controls (similar to the new ÖBB coaches on the control panel).

    3. In the Display Version (MFD) of the Br101, the driver's lights are always on and don't turn off.

    4. The high beams of the headlights on the Br101 aren't shining the light correctly and are misplaced.

    5. The first-class coaches are right behind the 2nd class Steuerwagen, even though the 2nd class coaches should be behind the Steuerwagen.

Overall, I'm very happy with the DLC, but those are some minor things I noticed.:)

yeah, tried that, didnt help much as far as I noticed :) ... maybe I entered wrong train data? I mean, assuming this is a passenger service with people in the train, I use the "loaded" weight in my train mass calculation, and I end up with a higher number than the game provides me in the pause screen

lets say the game says 400t and my calculation using "loaded" weight ends up like 450t... could this impact the overall calculations by much? cos I usually end up with BrH figures around 180 or 200 in the end... I also tried messing with the vmax speed entry, tried 200 and 160, and with the 160 setting, the brakes seemed marginally weaker

so, I dont know... in Kassel Wurzburg test, the brakes released fairly quickly and I managed to recover... first time did it at 200 kph, then after first slowing down I went to 160 kph, did it, and even managed to recover from a Sifa penalty at around 120 kph, still moving after that... in Dresden Riesa, with a shorter consist (BR 101 + 6coaches + cab car), I managed to recover only if I was going 160 kph and got lucky to recover the train at a crawl... so, is it possible I somehow set the brakes (cos of the data) to be too strong? :)

    6. jumper cables between locos (I saw this with 218 and expert 101) and (expert) coaches aren't connected properly

    7. driver sits sideways in driver's seat

    8. when the cabin side window opens and closes, there is no sound to represent this

    I have a question:

I got the same issue as in the stream with the brakes not releasing after a Zwangsbremsung with the IC Cap Car. I only managed to release them by going outside and releasing every brake on every single coach. Is there another way to solve it?

I did, but it didn’t work. Somehow, only releasing the brake pressure on each wagon worked.

The Stream with maddy isnt from DTG directly, but from one of their Ambassadors Matin_TSP . It has english subtitles but was done in German, as both a native German speakers and the Stream appealed more to the german Players, who didnt get much from the english and rather chaotic DTG Stream. :)
In fact many people commented under this stream that it was the one to sell them the 101, not DTGs

But im sure theres a lot of english streams and showcase videos as well :)

Hi all, thinking of getting the DB BR 101 Expert.
What route DLC's will this loco operate on with timetables?

if you have old BR 101 and routes it could operate on, on quite a lot actually :) originally I believe it should fully work on Rosenheim Salzburg and Dresden Riesa, but I think it also works on Kassel, Bremen Oldenburg and a couple others, not sure of complete list :)

As already mentioned by Tom Fresco - the stream with me and Maddy wasn't the official previews. If you need an english stream, watch the offical DTG stream. Also people like British Ace , Dadrail, and Hentis speak english :)

However, you can turn on the CC and let it auto translate into english :)

got some answers out of cwf.green in other thread, and looks like the way how Sifa works here IS the one, and other DLCs conditioned most of ppl including me into thinking that if you press Q shortly after getting Sifa Zwangsbremsung, brakes should release quite quickly and you should be fine and still moving... turns out thats not really the case in many cases cos of delays in releasing various brake systems and shenanigans

still discussing it in other threads, but looks like DTG just made it easy and accessible for ppl in German DLCs (there once you press Q after getting Sifa penalty, brakes/traction lock releases pretty quickly and you just move along a bit slower)... here it depends I guess on particular consist (on Dresden I almost never managed to recover while still moving, on Kassel I could for some reason...)

all this just makes me wish I had a kind of instructor here to teach me cos I really sometimes cant tell if sth is supposed to be this way or not and as someone with OCD tendencies and other things going on in my head this is driving me crazy cos this is literally my favorite game and I dont have enough knowledge to tell bug from feature (a problem I sometimes have with usual content, but this is soooo much deeper that my brain is exploding :D )

so, thx again for patience :D

might give that video a try :) but today I think I will just relegate myself to playing Darksiders 3 to get some sure dopamine and maybe return to the game once I my brain is generally calmer :)

edit: or other option is literally watching documentaries and instruction videos on Sifa on YouTube till my eyes turn red :D

You just need to read the very first post of this thread. There it states:

    Timetable & Scenarios
On release, the DB BR 101 ‘Expert’ will have (copied) timetable services on Nahverkehr Dresden and Bahnstrecke Salzburg – Rosenheim route Add-ons. The latter will also have 4 Scenarios available to play, 3 with the 101 and another with the Cab Car.

Of course, players will also be able to utilise the locomotive on any Germany route Add-on by spawning into timetable mode or via Free Roam. Neither of the above routes are a requirement to do this.“

But in addition to those two it’s also selectable to use with the existing timetables for Bremen -Oldenburg, Dresden - Chemnitz, and Kassel - Wurzburg. Not the case with other routes like HLL or Koln though

I have been following the posts.
When I check on Steam sales Kassel - Wurzburg makes no mention of a BD BR101 of any description, neither does Nahverkehr Dresden - Riesa Route or Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel - Würzburg Route
Can you now see the dilemma I face. To get on board with the Expert 101 is a big investment when you include routes that I do not own.
