About The Great Northern Railway (reporting mark GN) was an American Class I railroad. Running from Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Seattle, Washington, it was the creation of 19th-century railroad entrepreneur James J. Hill and was developed from the Saint Paul & Pacific Railroad. The Great Northern's route was the northernmost transcontinental railroad route in the U.S. In 1970, the Great Northern Railway merged with three other railroads to form the Burlington Northern Railroad, which merged in 1996 with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway. You've been suggesting some great fallen flag railroad ideas, Jack. The Great Northern would be amazing. The mountain scenery in Montana's Rocky Mountains or Washington's Cascades would be awesome to see in game. If we get GN locos and routes in game, I'd suggest Marias Pass: Shelby-Whitefish, MT or Stevens Pass in Washington State. Maybe we could get GN's Gateway Sub in northern California between Keddie, CA (where the famed Keddie Wye on the WP's Feather River Canyon route is located) and Klamath Falls, Oregon. As for locomotives, I'd love to see some of those Alco and Baldwin switchers, the "Hussle Muscle" SD45, F45s, and maybe GN's rebuilt GP5s (formerly GP9s). GP30s and GP35s would be awesome, too. Also, we should get both the GN "Pumpkin" livery and the "Big Sky Blue" livery.
Certainly these Fallen Flags should avoid some of the licensing issues DTG keep on about. And the era is far more interesting particularly to those of us who have a liking for the more vintage North American Railroad scene, inspired by some of the Great Model Railroads published by Kalmbach or ancient back copies of Trains magazine. Over in TSC a most excellent set of Alco C424’s has just been released, apparently with excellent sound (planning to purchase later on today). So really no excuse for not bringing similar into TSW.
That's absolute TSC territory, thanks primarily to route builder Michael Stephan "Great Northerner". Don't see it in TSW though.
