And don't forget the 323, for some reason only the Training centre variant has it, but that's had it since day one. Why not the Cross City version as well?

I thought that about the 323.
Maybe Cross City is getting an upgrade with additional types of traction at Birmingham New Street that may or may not be coming to the game. So it kind of makes sense to update the BCC 323 then.

Cross City will likely get an update for suspension and AI pendolinos.

Btw. Was the working escalators always a thing on BCC? I didn't think it was. Wonder if they're upgrading it for a future route (WCML *cough cough nudge nudge wink wink*)

    And 350s...hopefully!
    730s wouldn't be unwelcome either.

Just chanced upon a Class 66 service on ECML in Quick Play. "Perfect," I thought. "Let's see this new suspension in action."

    Nope. No suspension.

I distinctly remembered "ECML — Class 66" being advertised in the suspension announcement post (let's disregard for a second the fact that this feature was promised for TSW4's release last October), so I went and checked how various Class 66 variants behave on the ECML.

I drove over many switches and gaps at <5 mph, looking closely at the front bogie. The only variant that had working suspension was the ECML one.
    Not the GWE one.
    Not the SEH one.
Not the SEH (RHTT) one, which is the one I drove initially.
    Not the ECW one.
    Just the ECML one.

People have been complaining about how there are too many variants of singular locomotives/MUs technically divorced from each other for ages, and this is yet another example of why they're right. I think that this problem should've been addressed somewhere between TS2016 and TSW2020. Yet here we are.

Regardless of the extent of the UK route we think we are getting with TSW5, BCC would benefit from a SEHS style extension. Put in the Walsall Line, plus Coventry through to Wolverhampton (if not included elsewhere!) for an expanded West Midlands network. Layer in the two trains that might be arriving in the near future and, yes the caveat it’s all one handle EMU’s, but still a nice little domain to play around in.

Funnily enough, this probably also doesn't work for the pink and blue versions, which are some of the newest in the game... I skipped TSW4 and will skip TSW5, but if they announced unifying classes so you have one tech for each type of train that is up to date, I would reconsider.

With the line to Wolverhampton you could also add the 158 and 170, with the correct licences (although I think the Shrewsbury trains are class 196s now).

That should be happening with way more routes. Combine them into networks so you have more freedom in choosing services. NYC comes to mind, so does Edinburgh. But nah, A-to-B every time.

One of my favourite routes in BVE/OpenBVE was the West Midlands Network. Although semi fictional, not hard to figure out where most of the locations were. BCC could be extended in several stages, the first as mentioned then you could drop down to Worcester and the Malverns, followed by the line via Kidderminster to Snow Hill then on to Leamington Spa and Stratford.

My hope for TSW5 is that they have beefed the despatcher up, the buzz words at the moment seems to be "artificial intelligence" so could we have some.

as a developer (not of tsw) ai being a buzz word is the bane of my life.

people say ai and think skynet. What we have is basically glorified machine learning… very much reliant on the data it’s trained on and subject to SISO. (Roughly translates as rubbish in rubbish out)

Artist and copyright holders and protectors are already at odds over AI "learning" from their intellectual property without permission, credit or due compensation.

But AI cannot be stopped anymore, and attempts to legally curtail AI will take years in various courts all over the world.

Intrigued to know what exciting new features will be, but… I will be happy if passengers and weather get an overhaul. A renewed commitment to the continued development of steam traction and more legacy TSW content would be the icing on the cake.

  23. Delivery on release would be high on my list too.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to buckle your seatbelts, because the next 40 or so hours is going to be a heck of a ride. We may experience some turbulence and bumps along this journey. But the real direct was the friends we made along the way

Take it then, ladies and gentlemen, we have seen what the unconfirmed but projected prices for TSW5 look likely to be (as per link in the Dovetail Direct thread https://news.instant-gaming.com/de/...t-werden?utm_source=igStore&utm_campaign=home )
    Roughly translates as
    Standard Edition £40.
    Special Edition £70
    Deluxe Edition £110

Yegods. Not sure what the Deluxe edition entails to justify handing in excess of 100 notes to DTG in one go, maybe some sort of Season Pass. Obviously this all needs to be confirmed and we will know more tomorrow but can’t see how they can justify that level of pricing. Even if there’s an existing owner and pre order discount taking 10% or (if you’re lucky) 20% off bringing the prices down to £32, £56 and £88 respectively that’s still on the pricey side.

And if the £110 is a season pass, do we really trust DTG to actually deliver content and of a reasonable quality in return? (Still looking at you, Flight Sim World). Or are they going down the N3V road of inflating the buy outright prices to make a potential subscription service look more appealing?

Well, machine learning used for solely dispatching purposes could be possible if trained well, I think. Don't forget in rail simulation, we'd pretty much only need to switch switches and then give signals.

Easy solution: Wait 10-12 months and get TSW 5 with a 80% discount.
Personally I think the £110 edition will be a bundle containing some older TSW 3 routes and one route from TSW 4.

The article cited gives prices in Euro. Here's a little table of how much different editions cost at launch (in €), if the article is to be believed.

    -------------Std.-------Deluxe---Special
    TSW4-----45---------65---------105
    TSW5-----45---------75---------120
    Increase----------+10-------+15

With TSW4, all that the Special Edition added (in comparison to the Deluxe Edition) was some old DLCs from previous games, one of which used to be free at one point. With TSW5, that ish better include a Season Pass for this kinda money.

As for the Deluxe, the TSW4 one justified its €20 price increase compared to the Standard with the addition of 2 new locomotives (and 1 old route, but that's not really "value added"). That's €10 per loco. So if this one includes *gasp* 3 locomotives, I'll be fine with the price hike. Pack it with value, is what I'm saying, and then I'll consider a purchase. Otherwise, there's thousands of hours of unexplored content left in TSW4 for me, I'm really in no rush to buy the new one.

Where did they get those prices from though? Can't see any pre-order, and don't think they are officially confirmed, so is it just a guess?

They have to make money somehow, we've had only ONE UK route DLC from DTG since last October.

I guess TSW5 will be top notch, bug free with a several hundred mile detailed recreation of the West Coast.

They've been quite obviously been busy working on it since TSW4 came out. It might be the new business model. An annual new game. One DLC somewhere after 6 months.

I originally thought suspension was taking up all this time, but perhaps not being as only a handful of the fare was upgraded.

There could be some sarcasm there. Anyway, I've got the popcorn ready and waiting for tomorrow.

We find out in around 36 hours, but wondering, if the "rumours" are correct, the deluxe edition could contain Goblin and/or JT Blackpool to tie into the DTG main UK route and the JT route. Or the Deluxe includes the new JT route.

  34. Even after all this time and with plenty of empirical evidence to the contrary, l hope for my own personal self interest that its not just TSW4 with a small patch (if any at all), locked behind another paywall with some DLC that could have been part of TSW4 in the first place which I may not want but which I'll have to get in order to buy the dlc which I might want in the future.
Actually, for me personally, I dont 'have' to get anything. Im still happy with TSW3 and havent seen any compelling reason to migrate from that yet. I appreciate others may feel differently, but I wonder how many more might be carried along without the paywall model..

As I said in the Direct thread, I have more content in TSC and TSW4 not to mention various other games, that there really is no compulsion to buy TSW5 unless there is a significant wow and must have factor to it. I’m certainly starting to consider if a one handled WCML from Euston to MKC, an extended Koln to Aachen and Metrolink 2 fits that category.

We certainly need those prices peer confirmed but it has created a little bit of angst in the final 30 hours or so to the big reveal. I’m kind of hoping there is a Martyn Lewis effect here, who a couple of weeks ago was preaching UK energy price cap could go up by 77% in October, the reality now looks to be 9%.

There's no difference between DTG ignoring 118 pages, and ignoring 200 pages.

Its just getting out of hand, games are just getting more and more expensive yet there is no justification for it. TSW5 will be 90% the same as TSW4. Its the same with other games such as EAFC 24 and the F1 franchise. They just copy paste every year and milk everyone for their money. Its crazy.

Mr Lewis was saying no such thing this year. You were watching/reading something that was actually from a previous October prediction when it did go up by a massive amount. It’s so easy for misinformation to spread online. For TSW it’s just best to wait for the actual prices to be announced before going off on one based on unconfirmed leaked or guessed prices.

Actually you are right! I had that previously off my missus who then denied vehemently this morning she had ever said that.

And yes I will be taking a view of the packs in terms of content and any discounts as the actual DTG info emerges. If as existing users with a pre order we can get the Standard pack for £32 or even £36 then that’s not bad for three new routes, even if they are what we think.

Epic database suggests pricing will be as follows, with a release date of September 17th:
    • Train Sim World 5 – Standard Edition: £39.99 / €44.99 / $49.99
    • Train Sim World 5 – Deluxe Edition: £59.99 / €74.99 / $74.99
    • Train Sim World 5 – Special Edition: £104.99 / €119.99 / $119.99
For reference to TSW4 - Standard edition is the same, deluxe is +£7/€10/$5, Special is +£15/€15/$10.

Worth bearing in mind that you'd only have bought the Special edition last time if you wanted a package of additional older routes - all of the new content was available as part of the Deluxe pack.

Furthermore, there was a pre-order discount of 25% for Steam purchasers if you owned TSW3, and 5 days early access for Deluxe/Special editions.

Honestly - the pricing isn't vastly different, there's been no 'huge' jump, I'm not at all concerned about pricing, more about content and whether the routes look any good this time around!

Even stuff that gets put into the "We'll add it within two-three months of release" bracket gets a "I'll believe it when I see it" comment from me now.

So this topic will go up a version as of tomorrow or will it get a subtitle like Rush Hour? :)
