There are a lot of positives things that I've seen yesterday and today.
    Bravo !

The Dovetail Direct was really pleasant to watch honestly :) Going from the first announcement to the other games while DTG Alex was revealing new routes is really a nice way to show what DTG has to offer.

I look forward to see the same presentation for the next Directs :D

    And also the big
    5. At first I was concerned and kind of unhappy for the people that didn't wanted to buy it to acces the next DLCs. But no Dovetail listened and listened well to us.

A free core-game for the people that have the old version is really the sweet-spot between
a new shiny game for marketing and not being too "greedy".

The route included in the standard version are also quite nice !

Yes you could think that the WCML is a bit short but there are almost 3 differents lines in one.
-The WCML with the 350,390 and the 377/2 (Wow DTG you really surprised me here :D)
-The 710 and the Overground (Like that's a lot ?? But thanks )
-The Bakerloo (Only a part of it but at least the 1972 stock is updated for Tod4. More than welcome)
Also the included 66 is not an EWS 66 !!!!!:D:D

And for germany the ICE-T . The route include a ton of trains and the Vectron in DB and Flixtrain liveries is an absolute gem. DTG Matt was right when saying that it's going to be the next Dresden-Riesa.

Also the GWR remaster by DTG Liam looks really really nice :). I'm quite surprised to see all the different new liveries included (387,484,...) but it's really cool !

The next routes on the roadmap (Nice design btw) are also quite unusual !

Whales ??? Yes please ! And the route map looks really interesting.
And the Netherlands too ! It caught me off-guard to be honest.
    (Now Belgium:cool: please)

Congrats Dovetail you really listened to us and this Direct showed it perfectly.

    Agreed.

Shout out to whoever edited and organised the stream (video), it was really well done and not hard to watch at all.

A really positive set of announcements, too.

Yeah great job on the presentation.

Even with the leaks that happened and probably took some wind out of the announcements... I saw them, and did think "ok well there's all the big stuff", but it turned out that stuff was just the tip of the iceberg. There was so much more to announce.

    Hi folks,

I wanted to just say thank you from myself and for alot of the teams who aren't active on here that put lots of love and effort into the event this year. It was a massive team project, and one we've been waiting to unveil since starting back in March!

The reactions since yesterday have been so positive, and we're still gathering feedback and trying to support players on the new information. Threads like this really help keep us going!

Catch you all live for the roadmap stream tomorrow!

Big shout-out to DTG Alex for coordinating, and Blueprint Video, who helped with filming. I'm really proud of the whole team though, as these things are massive team efforts.

Our Creative team made some fantastic trailers and graphics, we had some great presenters, and much more besides.

    Really glad you liked it.

Icing on the cake for many of us "oldies" is of course the JT WCML Over Shap. Wasn't joking when I said yesterday this could be the first nail in the coffin of TSC for me.

Cardiff Valleys or rather the limited area we are apparently getting is a tad disappointing, but not the end of the world. Everything else at the feast looks good too.

There is the issue of better save game which I've mentioned in a couple of threads now and I'm probably not the only one hoping to see more save slots, for what's going to be over 70 routes and the other long standing issue of trying to chain several runs, the load/save routine not restoring the objective data after taking over a subsequent train. DTG Alex can we get something official on this at some point, please?

" Congrats Dovetail. You absolutely nailed it. "

Unless you're a fan of US rail of course. We haven't received an invitation to the party.

On the note of presentation and video, Blueprint and your in-house creative team did an insanely high-calibre job with it all coming together in one incredibly sleek package for DTG and its upcoming releases.

Whoever planned and directed it did a stellar job and has definitely set the bar for future announcements. Congrats to all of you, seriously well deserved.

I guess it's too much to ask for at least one thread free of negativity.

DTG are UK based with easy access to Europe. Given the complexities of reaching the US and alike, US players really need to push for a local developer to work with DTG overseas - why nobody has taken up the collaboration is beyond me because it must be a very lucrative opportunity given there's demand for more US content. I implore you (US railfans) to speak with US train sim communities to see if a group can be formed because realistically that's the only way it's going to work.

    You don't have to though...

Watch any interview with 2 or more cameras and I guarantee when they cut to the b-camera they stay focused on the interviewer or main camera.

I agree. I’d pretty much lost motivation towards TSW. I didn’t even watch the Direct live. But there is so much to look forward to now. In TSW5 itself I’m only really interested n the German Stuff, but WCML is nice enough to pay for the Deluxe on Steam. I’ll also take advantage of the free upgrade on PS5 where I have a more limited set of routes.

The cherries on the cake for me are JT’s new route and the GWE remaster. I already know I’l enjoy them.

So instead of the imminent deletion of TSW4, I bought a new SSD today. TSC will always be my favourite, but TSW5 is looking excellent. It’s nice to be able to write something positive!

Hm. Then how do you account for the plethora of US routes and locos that DTG and its partners built between 2017 and 2022/3?

DTG Matt DTG JD you guys are the perfect duo.
I remember checking out a lot of late streams that I missed during the week from you both at the weekend.
I’d be enjoying my Sunday roast while JD letting slip some spoilers about upcoming projects, and Matt’s eyes not knowing where to look with a slight sign of horror/disbelieve in his voice. Good ole times. I look forward to many more spoilers in the not so distant future. :)

DTG Alex is there any making-off material of this Dovetail Direct, would be very interesting to see a little bit of making of and your all work in preparation.:)

This. While it is easy to slam DTG and say its not fair that the UK/German side of the game seems to get the better end of the deal, the fact of the matter is that the majority of the devs are overseas and DTG works with quite a few people that have deep knowledge and focus on those countries, but not as many people of the same caliber from the US/North American side have stepped forward. Dovetail has put the tools out there and seems open to bringing new third parties into the fold so hopefully that changes but I don't think theres any kind of intentional strategy to give the North American content a worse experience. The technical, signalling and operations are very different, not to mention even just getting cities and towns to look right is hard when you don't actually live in the same country.

Honestly licensing and access is the biggest issue. For the Metrolink and Boston routes we got full support, everything we needed and sent people out to go survey everything and get reference. For the Boston route we've got full end to end 4k cab rides that we recorded ourselves in non-revenue trains they put on specifically for us. Metrolink did the same. I am so thankful to MBTA and Metrolink, they both have really gone above and beyond.

It's all possible, but it needs support, and sadly, it's just not that forthcoming - so I grab on to it wherever I can. I'd desperately like to have as stunning a US offer as UK and Germany.

That said - please do not underplay San Bernadino. I've had numerous comments from Beta testers over the course of the creation that have admitted they were jaded going into it and now are really impressed by it. This is not the same route as Antelope.

    Matt.

It may not be, but if it still has lazy scenery issues, weird freight layers or cut off spur's like AVL, then it would be another flop for me.

At this point, the Boston-Worcester route is the more exiting reveal than SBL.

The problem isn't really lack of help, alot of these commuter railroads have been very helpful. Its just the US content that is launching with TSW5 isn't as exciting as expected, since both the route and locomotive was already know months ago.

Yes, if the Worcester line had been in this launch instead of SB, my annoyance might have been somewhat assuaged. As it is I'm not sure how DTG can look its loyal American players in the eye and baldly state that this pack gives them any real value, especially when we see a route like CJP in there, a 2 year old route almost all of us will have. And then to ask us to pay extra for it in the deluxe pack. Fairness would dictate that It should at least be part of the standard US version.
My mind is boggled, my disappointment acute.

As far as San Bernardino is concerned, I already see issues such as floating vehicles which you'd expect the beta testers to have spotted. Indications for the scenery in general don't look good.

This is just amazing. And the depressing thing is, the freight operators pull in such insane amounts of money that they could easily afford to do this for you also if they wanted to.

Boston actually sounds quite good and think one I'm looking forward to.

SBO - well there will be the inevitable comparison with Run 8, pretty certain this section is in there but of course while R8 offers the freight industry side, there is no Metrolink and no structured passenger service (though you can run Amtrak :)). And I'm sure the TSW version will look a bit nicer. Need to fire up R8 and take a sneak look along there.

AVL - much to my surprise I didn't play it that much despite being hyped for it at the time, Soledad Canyon, not in Run 8, the tunnel coming out under the freeway intersection all beckoned. But for a passenger route that slow section in the middle really killed it and the F125 is so powerful that on the short formation, even on the 2% grades there was no chance to really thrash it. Hopefully SBO will offer more sustained fast running.

I'm glad you managed to get recordings for the route but seeing street lamps in the middle of a highway is a bit strange.
Maybe it's an old picture and it's been changed but just in case I wanted to let you know.

Yeah 100% if that was done IRL, you would have both a high number of deaths and lawsuits ranging from that.

Yes the free upgrade for less well off players, especially kids on pocket money perhaps, was a game changer for me. Now the game is not totally aimed at the well off masses alone. It also allows others still playing earlier versions to catch up and hence be part of the community again. I would have liked the free option to last longer because some might miss it, but it is a step in the right direction and importantly breaks the pay wall.
Also the amazing layers that WCML is going to get removes the criticism of short linear routes that have for so long dogged DTG. Again the Cardiff route also dispels the "one handled emu" along with JT's Shap of course, but JT have always been spot on with their work. I think the future looks much brighter. They've finally got it.
Only fly in the ointment is for US routes, I sympathise with those guys as they are getting much less content, I enjoy US freight and I know Matt does too. Perhaps the answer would be to remaster some of those earlier ones? But perhaps by compensation we are getting new countries instead. Mostly very positive.

Why? Our highways are lit at night. We are one of the only countries doing that but doesn't it make sense that well lit roads leads to less accidents?

I would say this is the best organised and well thought out release so far. The free starter pack is a game changer and instantly kills any "paywall" criticisms; as already mentioned, please keep this offer open as long as you can.

Another point I would like to bring up is... given the now vast number of routes in the collection, I would like to "retire" some of the older content but am hesitant as I don't wish to lose any of the layering/substitutions. Can DTG please make available a method easily determine inter-content dependencies for 1st and 3rd party DLC, such as a table/matrix? I realise this may be complex, but it is getting to the point where I cannot remember what is layered into what else. It goes without saying that this table/matrix, once created, should be kept up to date for the benefit of all.

California has lane splitting laws, with how bad drivers already drive, you can bet some poor motorcyclist is gonna get skewed by those unprotected poles.

Also I 10 is like 6 lanes wide, so those poles would be between lane 3 and 4.

I'd just like to say thank you! :)

I think it's fair that you offer the starter package for free and thus open up the possibility of updating older TSW versions to the latest core update. You've taken on board the criticism that you always had to buy the latest TSW including routes in order to be able to use later updates or new DLC. And what else I see, I actually like too.

    Keep it up DTG!

My journey with TSW continues and I am excited.

Support this. We shouldn’t have to untick in Steam then manually find and delete the pak files, hoping it doesn’t bork anything else in the process.

Only thing that struck me was there was no mention of TSC. I might be imagining but I seem to remember a smaller segment on TSC after TSW last year.

Wonder if DTG are finally putting TSC to rest, and let the community take over (once the whole code overhaul is done)?

I also got kinda intrigued for Tram thingie... I mean yeah, fictional city, but then, I always liked building up transport network in Train/Transport Fever and then watching routes work, wanting to DRIVE em... so... and now with new update they are adding Flexity from Vienna <3 ... so maybe from next salary I might jump into it and try it :)

This certainly seems to be the best announcement so far. The upcoming routes are interesting and I like the new features. I think they have done the right thing offering the core for free. Hopefully that should stave off the anger from last year.

I just hope it goes smoothly and lives up to expectations.

There’s a discussion on that very issue in the TSC forum. Think now it’s pretty much a case of them keeping the pilot light on. While I’m not yet about to pull the plug on TSC, have a feeling FRCE and the Alco’s will be my last purchase for a while with all the TSW content coming out. The budget will be going on TSW with the new routes etc. and most of the play time too.
