Good News Since I play on the Xbox Series X does that mean I have to go through Gamepass on September 17th-October 17th since it's my console while my brother uses it as his. Otherwise I'll simply install the PC version from the Microsoft store which I am entitled to do so
This is good news for me. I play TSW mainly on Xbox so will probably get the Deluxe version on this. However, I was keen to try it on PC and bought TSW4 when humble bundle sold it with a bundle of DLC (Steam codes) for a stupid price recently so I can upgrade it for free with the starter pack.

Just a note for the thread too - make sure you claim the Starter Pack! As a reminder, this won't automatically be claimed to your accounts, you will need to go to the store page and add it to your library to own. Think of the many people who gave in and bought TSW4 when Blackpool Branches came out. There's the reason.
I have TSW4 Standard Edition with some add-ons. I'm not sure about buying TSW5 because I don't use TSW4 for a while. I thought that TSW5 will use Unreal Engine 5.x but DTG chose to stay with UE 4.26. I tried to create a route in TSW4 but I have problems "drawing" tracks on the terrain. I hope that TSW5 will let me click on starting point of a track, move to ending point and click.
TSW5 core update will be available for free from the 17th Sept for approx one month. Tbh I can't think if a reason not to upgrade. If you haven't touched it in a while, then why not upgrade and continue doing that.. at least then you'll have the option of picking it up again and maybe impulse buying something that catches your eye later. As someone who dug his heels in and parked on TSW3, I've made the decision to get on board, and just yesterday decided to get the class 313 for the East Coastway route, knowing that I can take that with me to TSW5 where I will be focusing on the routes that I want, able to now ignore those I don't. You can upgrade for free, you don't have to buy a bundle, and can pick up any if the routes on their own along with any additional stock. No brainer I'd say. I'm a little bit confused. If I get the TSW5 Starter Pack, the new features in TSW5 are not available unless I buy TSW5 routes. Is this correct? If I buy San Bernardino Line and/or MBTA Commuter: Boston routes, will I get new features in TSW5? The Free Roam feature in TSW4 doesn't allow me to drive trains anywhere I want to go, not from starting station to designation station.
You get all the new features which work across all routes, for example the new map, route hopping, and improved photo mode. Some new features only apply to new routes, for example the conductor mode only works on the new routes. They haven't mentioned improvements to free roam.
Just to be clear, do you need a prior TSW game to claim the starter pack? I have TSW on PC and my PS5, but if I can get it without owning any prior TSW games I'll get it on my Xbox as well to complete the set.
