WOW! What an amazing trailer, this route really stands out with the way it looks. I’m excited to see the new Caltrain passenger trains and it confirms that we will also be able to run freight on this route! Watching the traffic zoom by at high speed is such a small detail but really adds something amazing! This trailer has me so excited for August 15th, not only are we getting this awesome looking route but with the TSW2020 update it looks like Christmas is coming early for all of us. I’m very happy Dovetail wasn’t just focused on new content but was also focusing on how to make the existing TSW a more in depth experience. I’m glad I get to be a part of the lead up to this new chapter in TSW!

Looks pretty nice! One thing I'm wondering about: Why do all windows of the Nippon-Sharyo cars look so strange? Seems like they're reflecting a sunset all the time... Would be very nice to fix that before the release!

Really Sad that you not included the MP36 and the Bombardier Cars but mentioned it in the article.

Any chance for a DLC Add on soon for this Caltrain and for the last part from San José to Gilroy like on Train Simulator 2018?

    Let the overanalysis begin...

So, the train number things (2 numbers attached vertically on side of locos and cabcars) does work. We don't know if you can change it or if it's automatic, but it's there.

Freight stock includes at least a centerbeam flatcar and a new dirt hopper (technically probably a gondola, but whatever).

I wondered if any of the branches off of the main would be included, and judging by 0:16-0:20 in the trailer and the 14th image in the article, it looks like it.

The fact that they not only mentioned them but also called them "flashy" is a big hint that they will be a future loco DLC IMO.

Not really that upset that they aren't included, the TS route didn't have the F40PH and gallery cars (those came with the extension), so it's the same amount of rolling stock either way. Going with gallery cars for the base route kinda makes more sense anyway because Caltrain has more of them and people want to see something different when DTG redoes a TS route in TSW.

This route has been out for TS19 already, and it came with the other main set of rolling stock that Caltrain uses instead of what we have here, which is this:
    By DF4D-0070 - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=38005469

Caltrain also operates beyond San Jose to Gilroy during rush hour, and so an extension of the route as a seperate DLC including the F40PH and gallery cars was made for the original TS19 route.

Mp36 seems to be a no go for now, as others have mentioned maybe an add on. Honestly though, give me the f40 over the mp36 any day :)

Thank you guys, that is a very nice looking train. I’m happy to see this route has a lot of potential for expansion. Considering NEC was one of the first routes made for TSW and the fact that LIRR is passenger trains only and with what they have learned from the all of the routes and locomotive DLC in between, being set in California with a mix of passenger and freight services, this may end up being the best route TSW has seen!

Nice DLC. A pity that we get a GP38 and not the SD40-2 which is a more interesting engine for me (more power, longer trains). Curious how many serves will be included and how much variety there will be in service mode.

Here are some screen shots from the trailer showing off both cabs and some of the rolling stock that will be included. The trailer also confirms that we will have services that include unloading! I’m hoping we get some heavy goods to move! Does anyone know if this route has any challenges in terms of the terrain? Does it contain any steep grades?

Hi! Will we have the possibility to buy new deluxe edition if we own previous? Or it will be available to buy only a particular route?

Hello! If you own TSW already then you will have the option to buy this route separately like all of the other previous DLC. Now if someone only owned the base game without owning the routes that are included in the TSW2020 edition they have stated that you will be able to get the MSB,NTP and LIRR at a discounted price! Hope that helps answer your question!

It's looking sweet. Excited to drive the f40ph though kinda disappointed the mp36 wasn't included. Another thing I wonder is if in a later update they will convert the CSX gp40-2 to a Union Pacific livery.

You got to give it to DTG, they know how to manage hype.*

"Look folks, we have the Peninsula in the making!"
"oo nice but... will there be freight?.. Oh dear... not mentioned anywhere... will there... be freight??"
"Oh, don't you worry lad! OF COURSE there will be freight!"

*As lang as they don't try to sell us 30 mile routes for TS19...

I must admit...I was one of those people who were pretty worried when I didn’t see any mention of freight. Then this trailer dropped. Hype level 10000+.

Only questions I have left about the route:

    1. Can we manually change train number things, or is it automatic? Honestly I'd probably be fine with either.

    2. We know that some freight branches will be modeled, but which ones? It looks like the line to the port of San Francisco is modeled, but what else? Where is that unloading operation exactly? And what does street running look like?

    3. Are there other freight cars? The last few DLC came with only 2 freight cars, but they were both new- routes like MSB included more freight cars that were reused from older routes. So is there another new freight car?

...so, not much, really. Looking forward to August 15th, hoping for preorder discount!

I'm excited. Especially that there is freight action. It will make the route more authentic. And with that DLC we will have 5 different American railroad operators for TSW.

The SD40-2 isn’t used on the Peninsula Corridor. The biggest locomotive that ever gets out there would be the occasional AC4400CW, which isn’t even used on the day-to-day operations. All regular trains use the 4 axle geeps, though the GP60 is the most common freight locomotive out there in real life, and that is indeed more power than a GP38-2. And more power than an SD40-2 as well. I would have liked to see the GP60 for that reason.

Not at all. The line is flat as a pancake, to the point that Caltrain didn’t even get dynamic brakes on the F40PH-2s until 15 years after they bought the locomotives. Guess someone realized dynamic brakes are still pretty good at slowing down a passenger train, hills or no hills.

This is shaping up to be potentially one of the best DLCs so far:- 47 mile route, mix of passenger and freight & 3 driveable locos (albeit one being reused from CSX:HH).

I'll be preordering this one once its avail with its preorder discount.

As this is the first TSW route with freight movement and passenger in the U.S. (NEC technically too, but just..) , im thrilled.
I don't think ive been this excited about TSW since i found out about and purchased Heavy Haul - many moons ago

Id bet with the release of their '2020' theme , this one shant disappoint being the headliner and all. Lets hope it lives up to the rush.

    Im pulling for you DTG

Looks very nice, especially the very crisp paint job on the UP GP38-2. Also great to see some graffiti not only on walls, but on the dirt hoppers! Nice to see both train numbers and the placards for bike cars change from train to train as well. On thing of note - on the second-to-last screenshot, the F40 shouldn't have both the nose headlights and tail lights on at the same time. Hopefully we get some scenarios in the sun on this one - the rain in previous DLCs wouldn't really do California justice.

My guess is it works a bit like the Class 66 currently where you have to insert the reversing lever. There's even a little placard on the control stand that says to remove the handle when in trailing position.

Yep, that's how it's supposed to work in real life in all the US locomotives. Kind of odd that it isn't in the others. I've heard the SW1000R has it, but let's just try to forget about that DLC for a while...

I would have liked a UP Genset switcher and the GP60 instead of the GP38-2. I'd also like a UP ET44AC or ES44AC as DLC. The MP36 and commuter cars should be added too for more variety.

Not at all. They're still everywhere.
Thing is they only occasionally run on the Peninsula Corridor. Not like once every day, but once every couple weeks on an as needed unit train. So it wouldn't really have made much sense for DTG to go through all the effort of making a console-compatible repainted version of a locomotive that would at best have like one scenario, maybe a single service.
