Looking at the Route Hopping screenshot, it is subject to DLCs being available or purchased and if not it comes up locked. A nice way or in your face to get you to purchase more routes to unlock the hopping? What you guys think?
No? Why should they let you hop onto a route you don’t own? I can almost certainly guarantee that if DTG didn’t separate the locked and available options, the following situation would repeat endlessly and get very tedious: Player: “Route hopping isn’t working. Please fix.” DTG: “Make sure you own the route you are trying to actually jump to”
It's a menu avoidance shortcut, not some sort of magic bean. If you don't have a route, you couldn't select it from the menu either!
Indeed, but if you don't own a route, it only appears in the Store area. The OP outlines the fact that routes you don't own appear in the menu at all. They could have filtered them out, but they didn't, so you can see what you're "missing". It's a sales technique called upselling.
I'd like to reiterate my original point: If certain routes are filtered out of the route hop list, it's inevitable that people will constantly ask why certain routes aren't appearing, or that there's a bug, or that it's not working correctly. Simply putting all of the routes there, and separating them into "Available" and "Locked" massively reduces this. But Even IF this is a marketing thing - why does it even matter? Literally nobody is going to buy a route they have absolutely zero interest in just to utilize the hop feature.
Yeah, or the phrase FOMO is another one, Call of Duty is famous for that. Bit like buying a car, you can get the basic model, but if you buy the sporty one you get go faster strips...no pressure.
With that argument, I guess you would also like to see all the routes, whether owned or not, installed or not, under the "Select a route", with Available or Locked icons. Because I only see the routes that I own and have installed.
