a bit of feedback for the dev team, but across the route the ole gantries are incorrect across the route. For example look at the difference in the stream and the actual routh (both linked below) I’ve also provided screenshots to show what i mean. TSW V Real Life Just some examples Here’s a YT video with the real thing, just explaining what I mean better
It’s just the whole route that looks off and it’s a shame if you play the TSC version the ole looks closer to reality.
I wish this was the biggest flaw in the whole route, but there are more wounds on the track that are much bigger than this.
It's not great is it? I noticed wires terminating into nowhere. No pulleys or tensioning weights. Wires zig zagging and changing direction in mid air; defying all the laws of physics. It's like one of those very early BVE2 routes.
Those comparison images also serve to highlight just how unnaturally bright and over saturated TSW looks compared to real life. Obviously never going to be completely lifelike but seems we are the unwilling victims to someone at DTG’s Pe rsonal preferences on this who’s whims are being indulged for god knows w hat reason, TSC actually looks better and more natural.
It got to the point i can’t even drive fully clear services in the day anymore because of the lighting
it is probably the practice of handing out a set of standard OHLE assets to subcontractors and developers. Same with German and US electrified routes. Staggered masts because too lazy to create long and short outriggers? Incorrect push and pull in curves making the wire loose contact with the pantograph? 2" solid black gas pipes for 25 kV AC catenary without zigzag in many places? Incorrect height under those German 'quertragwerke'? Pantograph bobbing up and down under any bridge or viaduct? It's a mess.
I agree,I think it's a good representation of the catenary, its not one hundred procent accurate but still has the look and flavour of the route
The gantry in the game looks to be modelled from one of the types used on the route and for TSW they do usually stick to one kind throughout so given the route has other issues this isn’t one that is high up on the ‘needs fixing’ list for me. They are never going to recreate all the types of gantry on a route like this and place each one where it is in reality. There will be a lot of auto-population going on. One of the real photos above shows at least three different designs of gantry in a row. That’s never going to be realistically recreated in a TSW route. Imagine having to select and place each gantry individually on a 50-odd mile route. It’s like a fever dream.
In a freeware route we would smile and accept the author did what they could to match the prototype. But this is essentially a payware offering which when it goes on sale individually will be at the usual £30 a shot (£45 if you want to buy the Pendie alongside). That requires a higher standard of fidelity to the prototype. No one is expecting every lineside building or tree to be exactly as real life, but the infrastructure is kind of key to the experience. The gas pipe effect was first noticed on ECML and commented on, the wire should not look that thick or dark but as usual our concerns were stonewalled by the arrogance that lurks somewhere in DTG, that they know best.
Agreed, the early routes didn't suffer from this and look better imo. Try GWE, weirdly enough the lighting looks great. I've noticed on the newer routes if you look up towards the sky the view darkens and looks much better. It's only when you look straight ahead again the washed out view reoccurs.
It doesn’t need to be 100% but if you watch the video I linked you start to see how off it looks, the TSC version literally looks better
It’s not about them recreating every gantry? It’s about just getting the design right in the first place, the TSC version literally has more accurate ole than this version
If you watch the DTG live stream from last night, the area 3.3 to 2.2 miles from Watford looks to be using the same "flat" OHLE gantries as seen on Scotrail Express: Edinburgh - Glasgow. They don't match up with the rest of the OHLE gantries on the route.
So what you're all saying is that the route is (on top of being, at this point traditionally, too short and terminating at an unexpected point) made using old or inaccurate assets. I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you! Honestly. Imagine the goodwill gained if this route terminated at, say, Birmingham, as it used to do in TSC. Now that would be a true upgrade that could bring new customers along... alas. With TSW5, we get 3 A–B shortish routes that fail to excite absent the Deluxe-paywalled 390.
