My Thoughts On Wcml Euston To Milton Keynes Central Preview Stream

Hello it is me again!
Right so, I want to start off with saying I am really excited to play this route! Route I been wanting to play for ages and my most requested trains 390 and 350! I have to say Bravo to the Dovetail team DTG Alex DTG Matt DTG JD The cabs look amazing from what I have seen on YouTube Videos. 390 Seats, carriages and Advertising boards look so much to the real thing! I am truly excited and again like from my last post thank you for giving us this amazing route! Driving 390 out of the depot will be the first thing I do for me.
The licencing for the 350 LNWR is no big issue, we know you guys are trying but it doesn't effect gameplay whatsoever!
Few questions.
On stream Especially for Avanti services. It seems to just say Milton Keynes on the departure boards. I do hope this will get fixed as it does ruin the immersion a little bit. It should say where it is terminating.
390 Door PIS isn't working. Again be great if this works as it be great for screenshots and also the immersion as they work in real life obviously and are quite useful.
I definitely won't be cancelling my pre-order as I think £53.99 is very good price and I absolutely excited for it!

 

Daisy mentioned in stream last night that she had seen the PIS working on the 390, it just so happened to be an inconveniently timed bug coinciding with the preview stream, or the preview was of a game build which has since been updated

I’m still looking forward to it as well. I’m mainly interested in the German route, but I thought WCML looked pretty good. There are obviously things that still need sorting out. But I don’t care too much about the branding. I don’t care at all about the suspension arriving late as I want to switch it off anyway.

I also really like the new map, photo mode and also the route hopping feature so I still intend to pre order.

I’ll never let the forums influence my purchase decisions, I missed out on TSW 2020 for a long time because of these people on these forums and when I did buy it, I found it to be really fun.

No off map destinations is absolutely unacceptable in a 2024 route. That’s not even work. Literally all you have to do is type in the real destination instead of the route end point.

That alone is honestly worthy of cancelling a pre order. Just unacceptable if not fixed.

No worries. It's a bit of a hellscape at the moment with stuff being thrown around from all angles. I'd hope at some point DTG make an official statement to clear things up, because that is what's badly needed right now..

 

Also looking forward to this route. Vegetation is visibly more dense and gameplay looks absolutely better than last year's ECML; I almost fell asleep in the 1.5h of just adjusting the reverser on the flying scotsman. Hope they get some bugs fixed.

BTW, I don't get why this forum is blasting out in the exact extent that the FCL launch stream had.

 

Yes Scenery for me is always a big one for me, just feels better with route with better scenery.
With WCML, the fact rivet may have had a possible to do with it which is a Big No. Can't stand Rivet whatsoever.
It is mainly because their are still some things that need addressing but people not sure if this was an early build which it seemed to be as Daisy said their was off map destinations I think and also the 390 door PIS was working but it was on the dev build, so I really hope that is the case as no excuse not to have off map destinations.

 

As usual there is a lot of hyperbole and some like to get their pitchforks out at every opportunity. The route in my opinion is not nearly as bad as some of the comments make out, for me the DC lines timetable is my main complaint.

Having said that DTG haven't helped themselves by not making sure the lighting glitches and the off map destination issues aren't fixed before showing the route off. I am sure they will be fixed before or soon after release

I thought the route was well made, the trains are well modelled, the stations well made and the scenery seems as good as most other recent releases. Some prefer to concentrate on the negative and won't comment on the good things though.

 

Because DTG keeps repeating the negatives despite all of the feedback. At this point they’re either just ignoring the feedback, incapable of fixing the issues or incompetent. I’m not sure which. How can they keep making the same mistakes?

 

When I played it at Dovetail a couple of weeks ago I was able to walk across the concourse and out the door too, just

 

I suspect that some invisible walls have been put in place since then. On the preview stream, Matt wanted to show the lack of toilets, but a new invisible wall stopped him.

After actually watching some of the stream, I've rolled back my views a bit. Going off for a walk shortly and in between getting the wife nattering all the way round, got to reconcile in my mind if I want to reinstate my £54 Deluxe order.

There are still issues with WCML and it's not what we thought it would be, but doesn't look entirely unplayable. Also needs to be taken in context that the German route will probably be okay, along with Flixtrain as I suspect will be the American route. But if I do decide to reinstate my order, then DTG are on notice that they almost lost a sale. And that doesn't mean forgetting all the core issues woefully unaddressed like steam traction, more save game slots, dreadful lighting etc.

 

Personally I don’t see any point in preordering until the last minute. I’m still planning to as I really want the German Route but I shall leave my decision until next Friday before I go on holiday.

Despite all the comments here, I still think I will enjoy WCML and There is no point waiting and just getting the German Route and the Flix Train as it’s likely not going to be much cheaper than the Deluxe edition anyway.

I don’t disagree with the comments especially about the timetable and tunnel lighting but it’s probably going to bother me less than some.

 

I tend to agree, I will see if anything is said about the timetable and then decide. I imagine things like the tunnel lighting will be fixed and for me it is not enough to not purchase the route, there is more right with it than wrong with it, despite what you read on the other thread.

The timetable is important and I don't feel good enough but it could be worse.

The German route and Flix Train are very interesting to me so I feel it is worth getting the deluxe version.

 

This. To buy the German route standalone will be £30 and the Flixtrain £12 with no preorder discount, so assuming there will be some value in the WCML and the San Bernardino route that’s only £12 difference to the £54 Deluxe preorder. It’s either that or hang on until Christmas and hope for 20 or 30% off. There’s also little merit in just buying the Standard Edition now, if you want the Flixtrain another £12 on top brings that to £46 and WCML, warts and all, without the Pendolino seems rather pointless.

 

The route should have been longer, 50 miles is too short

 

If it had been London-Crewe I guarantee that there would be people here posting that most trains don't terminate at Crewe and Preston is only a few miles further ...

Now that you mention it, Inverness isn't that much further!

 

I'm sure that with the South section of WCML I will be very happy indeed. Happy with all the layers that have be added if you own Suffragette to add the 710, that will provide huge variety. However, that like for the WCML will only encourage me to lobby and continue to lobby for the WCML to continue north, it would have to be built in sections, I understand that. I want to pull into Birmingham New Street and beyond, and I hope enough of us do so also.

I am really pleased that DTG have started this line. Sadly I will be aware on holiday on launch day, but I will be checking in online.

 

Unfortunately, there's two issues with this (as far as beyond Brum is concerned), and they are Liverpool-Crewe, and Preston-Lancaster. Both are set in different eras to the MK route, and while there would be nothing stopping any developer from remaking those routes in the modern era, I think the perception of developers would be that they always want to do something "new". If WCML is ever extended beyond Birmingham, I suspect to Crewe in the modern era is as far as we will get sadly

 

I just preordered Deluxe Edition, WCML - I’ve stayed away from the forums on purpose the last few weeks, too much of the usual negativity and predicable posts and threads.

WCML! Finally! Here we are! And especially out of Euston I couldn’t ask for more. 350 sounds and looks good (shame about the license). Pendolino absolutely incredible to have this in game, again looks and sounds good, even though sounds aren’t fully authentic, I can live with what we have.

The route length, to be expected. Not a negative about DTG, I just feel like if they’d have done Rugby, they’d have been asked to do Northampton loop, including Daventry freight terminal. It goes on and on and on. Personally I think that’s a big big ask. Euston to Milton Keynes is busy enough and long enough for some good commuter and semi-fast runs, so I’m happy. I think they missed a trick not including the St Albans Abbey branch for a charge of pace but that’s just my opinion.

I always thought if the WCML was to come it was going to be Crewe/Stafford-Birmingham New Street, so this was a nice surprise.

I use the WCML a lot - West is best after all! I think we’ve got a great representation they’ll be loads to do! I can’t wait! 10 days to go!

Why do they put invisible walls in if you can clearly walk to an area? Does it save memory?

 

That is one of the big issues with it. They are bringing us a new mainline to the game, but it is just going to be another experience like previous routes with a stop start EMU. Then there is the 390, but that is a one stop wonder and 50 miles is not giving an Intercity driving experience at all. I am glad they ballsed up the WC rather than the far superior EC which at least gives a better IC driving experience.
