There was, for TSW 2020. As TSW is an ever ongoing development, they found the way the GP40-2 was set up for CSX: Heavy Haul wasn't compatible with future builds of the core. Needed a complete rebuild. Demand isn't that high I guess, if you're doing switching you might as well use the more common slightly weaker GP38-2, or an SD40-2.
Oh I see. Thanks. Though I was going mad. Was trying to pull a heavy train with the 38, the 40s are a tad stronger I believe.
GP38-2 HP rating: 2000hp GP40-2 HP rating: 3000hp The SD40-2 also has 3000hp, but has better tractive effort.
So I went with the sd (special duty) 40. Been doing some research. As the gp (general purpose) 40 don't exist. I was reading the sd40 has 2 extra axles over the gp40 that's why it's a sd and not a gp. I would've liked to take the gp over the pass but unfortunately I can't. I do like these old units though.
I mean... there's not really any substantial difference other than the extra road wheels. An SD-40 can be used anywhere a GP-40 could be. The GP-40 in real life was a little cheaper, lighter, and had a tighter turn radius (since it only had 2 axles per bogie rather than 3 and thus less friction), but for that slight gain in cost-effectiveness it had less traction on grades. In GAME TERMS where we aren't paying for fuel costs and such they're close enough for any given scenario. Having said that, I can see DTG releasing a GP-40 at some point just because it'd be ridiculously easy to make (putting GP-38 bogies on an SD-40 for the most part and some minor cosmetics) Then they can say "ta-da! brand new loco!" Of course that would likely mean older routes which they seem to be moving away from....
I just been experimenting with different traction over cajon pass. Was trying the older stuff to see if it could climb the grade. Been over the pass a dozen times with some sd40's, then see some vids of gp40's and wondered why I couldn't find them.
I know there's Cajon Pass and GP-40s on Train Sim Classic.I have both, but haven't put them together because I'm kinda burned out on Cajon at the moment. Can only do so many slow mountain slogs in a row. =-)
Haha yeah I'm at the end of my witts with twist and go emu runs. Will have a look on railworks. Thanks.
It would be easier to just take the GP38-2 and change the long hood into a GP40-2. Then port sounds from the SD40-2 As with EMD, the GP38-2, the GP39-2, and the GP40-2 all shared the same frame.
The ES44C4 has different trucks than a ES44DC/AC, some minor differences can also be seen with the front in the position of the nose door or various vents and such on the earlier and later models, but virtually the ES44's are pretty much the same. Norfolk Southern ES40DC BNSF ES44DC UP ES44AH CSX ES44AH, with the Steerable Trucks. BNSF ES44C4
Thought the cab is pretty much railroad-customizable. I mean, like what NS has been doing at Juniata shops.
