Sounded like the obvious option had been ruled out, so I was just outlining the other remaining options :-D

Or they could just do what they do with Train Simulator Classic and update the base game for FREE each year for those who have shown LOYALTY to DTG and bought previous versions? Just a pity that DTG don't know what the world loyalty means.

  3. Does it mean "money"?
Poor jokes aside, I think it makes good business sense to make each iteration accessible so people can impulse buy DLC

I would say that this free starter pack is a start at the very least. Those of us who are loyal will most likely have heard about it by the time it goes. Hopefully it does well enough for us to see it again next year!

They DID listen and ARE upgrading the core for free....
And in response people are complaining.
Yeah that'll teach them to listen to customers next time....

  6. It's only for 30 days though, hence the conversation. And hopefully, yes it will.

The only issue I can see is the need to re-download everything, but they have explained this already and I am satisfied. Bring on TSW5!

    It's a halfway solution, but it's progress.
Praising progress and making a case for further improvement would be more productive I think.

If someone you knew was on booze and cocaine and they stopped cocaine, would you criticize them for not quitting booze too? Or would you say "good job... that's a good start?" and work on moving a step further?

Have you bothered to ASK why it's limited to 30 days?

  9. Hopefully I do a bit of both, but yeah that's a good point well made. Apparently it's a risk for them and they want to trial it. (Read in a post by Matt goodness knows where).

Is that not enough, though? Even with Train Simulator Classic, the core updates are free for existing players only. For newcomers, they still have to buy into it. With Train Sim World 5, the core is free for everyone, regardless of whether they have played Train Sim World before (albeit, for 30 days).
I think you have a decent balance.

An update should not require people to re-download the entire game again and again..........and again.......and again.....

  12. Yeah that's also a good halfway house. Tbh I hadn't considered that angle. I do still think you might be better placed with impulse buyers of DLC once theyve gained access to a "free" core that entices further purchases with a limited demo in the academy, rather than the current model but that's not supported by any data on my part.

But Why we have so much Issues with Blurred Textures Inside and Outside the Train on PS5 and Xbox Series X or Xbox has also flickering textures in the Cab as well, and it’s Never fixed.
We Report the issues since years and Months, but we Never got a fixed that it’s gone for ever

I'm wondering if the 30 day "trial" is to gauge new customer activity/spending patterns, not about the existing players. See if they make more money through offering entirely free core or sticking to paid release package.
If it works, then the core might just be free for everyone and they make all their money on DLC.
If it doesn't, then I'd guess they can still do free core updates (for existing players only)
It feels like they're experimenting with a slightly new business model.
I get it... and can see how it could be a good change.
The problem is that I think they're being a bit TOO severe. By JUST including the training center, you don't get a "route" to actually play on... scenarios, timetable, etc.
The training center is just too little, it's not a "full experience."
I'd toss in one quick route as a default "common" one that EVERYONE gets.
Lots of games do this... "free" is usually the a bare bones selection and a bare bones map to start.
Or one of a small selection... like they do "regional" bundles.

So, yes sort of how they do it now.
However, just one route and for free....compared to 3 routes and $40.00.
Maybe a compromise where it's $10 and one route based on region?

Summary: I like where they are going with it, but I don't think it'll work if the "free" is just the Training Center. I could be wrong. There are a LOT of locos there to browse through and learn to run.... but I feel like there's a nagging suspicion people would be more likely to pull the trigger if they had just ONE map to actually get out on, run some scenarios and clock some mileage on.
It'd be like if you offered a "free" core of some shooter and then instead of a map you just get the "tutorials" to walk through how to walk and shoot. You don't get a "feel" for playing the actual GAME until you're out there shooting stuff. It's still "just the tutorial" which is what the Training Center is.

Find a few routes collecting dust you're not "losing" much money on and toss one per region in as a bonus for newbies to thrash around on and whet their appetite.

    Just my two cents.

The driving force behind the free window is to get as many people upgraded for free as possible.

The fact that it also allows new players to find the product and try it out is interesting - but how many new players will pull the trigger in that 30 day window? I suspect it'll not be a huge windfall of new players. Most people taking it up will be the existing players upgrading.

We have debated about including a route with it - ideally you'd put something lower value and perhaps older, but then is that the first impression you want people to have? Not really. Ok, so if it's going to be something newer... what? Everyone has a unique thing like like - put something british in there, and you only really appeal to english players. Same for any other country. So, now you're putting three new routes in there... and... wait... stop!

17 tutorials in training center, 4 different trains, a little selection of wagons and coaches, free roam, scenario planner, and a combination of sidings and a loop. It's gotta be enough to get at least a taste and think if its worth trying something out, and then you can go find something that interests *you*. No point me putting GWE in there if you want US freight long hauling, etc.

But, as I say, the main driving force here is to get as many of you upgraded to 5-core, for free, as possible. Everything else is interesting, and we'll see what feedback is on it to decide if there's more to look at another time.

    Matt.

They did mention, that some updates would have required this anyway. The example they used was the Xbox audio issues. The need to redownload your content is inconvenient for everyone including DTG. Indeed, it takes me days to get my collection ready. However, we will have
Indeed, I told my friends about the free update, and not a single one of them was interested. I still haven't asked the friend who got TSW2 for free from Epic Games during the window when it was free in 2021, but he usually pirates his games anyway...

Do they still do meet ups with the public?
Fat lot of good it'll do on this side of the pond, but it could be fun if they didn't think they'd be lynched by an angry mob judging by forum posts ;-)

Yeah, Matt, I was really referencing the post(s) you replied to.

I really don’t understand the people complaining about the 30 day window. Every one of these people know about it and have the opportunity to upgrade for free during this time should they want to. Everyone else, they need not worry about. It’s really not their problem.

While I disagree with the complaints about the 30 day window, it isn't a bad thing to think about other's problems. After all, if you don't speak out, and they come for you, there won't be anyone left to speak out for you.

Thinking about the tutorials in the training centre, the TestTrak route for TS had a number of scenarios made for it. I remember the Hitachi SEC test scenario, and there might have been one for the ancient (but surprisingly decent) Oovee Class 156. It could be interesting to see some scenarios made for the training centre - I think some of the tutorials even have AI traffic. Should exporting be added to the official editor, I might recreate the SEC test scenario with an 801 or 395...

Well, I'm willing to bet some future pension check that when the next round of routes comes along, maybe around the holidays, there'll be a bundle that includes the core game and, say, Boston -Worcester all for $39.99. ;);)

Think that was suggested for TSW4 too when BPO came out, why not bundle it with the core but the idea never went anywhere.

Anyhow I’m very much back on the fence as to whether to give Deluxe a third and final order. The final decision hinges on how Frankfurt to Fulda comes across. WCMLS as we know is a bit of a dud. SBD has promise but marred by the horrid lighting, shiny roads and floating/spawning road vehicles. So impress me with tomorrow evening’s stream and I might just come back in and join the party but we will see.

btw if I ordered Deluxe, I guess I will have to re-download the whole thing, import profile and just then delete TSW4? :)

Yes. All the DLC has to be downloaded again, though I would imagine you can transfer the profile into bare bones TSW5 before starting the DLC process. Most of us are going to need the HD space freeing up from uninstalling TSW4 toget the same stuff installed into TSW5.

oh I prepared my HDD for that :D ... but I installed two smaller games so might check today just to be sure :D

I will play Ziggurat or sth for the day when it will be downloading :D ... since on my connection it might take a whole day :D (205 GB or sth atm, with like 20 or 30 more coming with new routes and locos that come with TSW5)

To be fair, it's no worse than every other TSW route out there so what is your standard for "non-horrible?"
Are you comparing it to the rest of TSW or an imaginary future standard no one is meeting?

None horrible is something that doesn't look like someone sprayed the ground with eggshell varnish. Yes it's a core issue but does seem to affect some routes worse than others.

This isn’t related to anything that’s been said on here but it’s quite exciting to see dtg Matt comment so many times on one of my posts, I know it’s kind of his job to look at these sort of things but I’m not really used to to it and like I said it’s quite exciting!

I can put up with re-installing DLC if needed (would obviously love not to). Pre installed TSW 5 on PS5; just a shame unable to pre-install owned DLC. Is this a PlayStation Store limitation?

It's been possible to pre-download DLC for Destiny 2 and Call of Duty, so technically it ought to be possible for TSW, although no other games are sat at over 100 DLCs.
