Hi Guys, the last couple of days I played a lot on RSN and noticed something, that, of course, happended on MSB and RT, too. I was driving an BR 143 into a tunnel (one with 110 km/h) and at the tunnel entrance, I heard a "fizzle sound". I think it's the same sound like when you put up the pentagraph and it gets contact with the line. While this happened, I didn't loose any speed, nor was something "strange". My question is now: Should I worry or did I something wrong? Do I have to avoid this to happen? It just doesen't feel right ;-) Kind regards
Since it (the sound) is happening at the same location on every route I encountered it, I guess your explaination is not far off. I'll record a short video of that (hopefully) tonight for demonstration. Edit: Actually I recorded the run a couple of days ago and just need to upload that Edit2: I was wrong, recorded a ride in RT
I wonder if the the power wire drops to the height of the tunnel roof which causes the pantograph to lower suddenly thus causing the noise? Just a guess.
I could barely hear the "fizzle" due to the horn that sounded -- did you do that and could it be the source of the "fizzle"?
The "horn" was the Sifa alarm. And i´ve heard that sound on my runs there aswell, so i dont think its related to the Sifa alarm sound.
Yeah, bad timing with SiFa ;-) Regarding the tunnel thesis: I'm not sure if there is a tunnel before Altena. If you feeling lucky, try a RB service to Hagen. The fizzle sound happened in RT, too. It's happening at one location in open field when you switch to a leftern track, can't remember exactly where that is, maybe after Bitterfeld. I have some recordings of complete runs but I'm not feeling like watching this all again. I remember there is a scenario starting at Bitterfeld, guess what, I'll try that one now...
And I think, you are right. I tested yesterday with RT, both scenarios around Bitterfeld (northbound and southbound) and didn't hear the fizzle with the Talent 2. I was too tired to test again with the 143 ... Anyway, since nothing is happening to the loco I should stop to worry ;-)
Ok, I'm sure enough to say this: The fizzle only occurs with the DB BR 143 but on multiple routes. Different locos don't "fizzle" at these particular spots. BUT I read in the German Wikipedia article about the loco and there was a whole section about the penta and problems with it, just can't recap the details at the moment, so actually this whole thing might be realistic behaviour ...
Do you happen to have a link to that article? I searched quickly for myself but couldn't find anything mentioning the pantograph
Alright I checked this and somehow weighted too much into this part maybe: And from Schleifleistenbruchüberwachung (nice word):
And for those that are curious -- from Google translate==: Initially, the 143 171 was rebuilt. It received the company number 114 101 and was approved for a top speed of 160 km / h. As part of these conversions, the current pantographs were replaced by new ones of the type SSS 87, which are equipped with a contact edge breakage monitoring system. "Im Falle eines Schleifleistenbruches entsteht eine Betriebsgefahr, da der Stromabnehmer nicht mehr sauber an der Fahrleitung entlangläuft" In the case of a Schleifleistenbruches creates an operating hazard, since the pantograph no longer runs cleanly along the overhead line Interesting translation of "Schleifleistenbruchüberwachung" when translated out of context --- "Grinding hernia monitoring" OUCH!!!! Schleifleistenbruches = " Grinding inguinal hernia" - must be tough getting people to volunteer to be drivers for this locomotive Gotta love Goggle Translate for a laugh.....
