The idea is to give people access to the core features for their existing routes and a teaser of TSW 5 for new players who might be interested.
FAQ might be wrong. (Or maybe Matt) I suspect it is an oversight in the FAQ, as the FAQ also states in an overview that the free version doesn’t unlock several new features, which would be required for new routes. (Conductor mode etc) See post above.
spreading misinformation on the internet may be joyful for the person doing so, but it's also harmful. that is NOT true as said. you can buy DLC even when you get the free starter pack. it's literally TSW5 itself, for free, so there is no additional paywall on that.
Not true. the features are blanked out bc you dont have any routs that include that in the free starter pack. Just the training centre. You get some of those features again with compatible content. It says so a column away
the point of a free upgrade is that the core game (TSW5) is free, aswell as of course the Training Center and the new german class 146.2 with the Dostos in a Training Center themed livery. well that's worded extremely poor then. and I think common sense also already reveals that that cannot be true.
It can absolutely be true if there is a separate flag within game platforms for the free version. Online platforms check if you own the base game before you can buy any DLC. If the free version is not marked as valid for DLC purchases (and it is setup that way) then it won’t allow you to purchase them. — I do think that Dovetail may want to clarify it given the contradicting information within the FAQ and from Matt’s comment, but I still want to give a heads up.
Erm, no. The free version includes the training center only. As the Training centre has no timetable or scenarios, they are not included. If you have existing DLC, stuff like scenarios and timetables will be available from your own DLC. I know bashing DTG has become your goal in life, and I agree with some of it, but spreading misinformation is not fair to others.
because those features are provided by the routes, and the free starter pack does not come with routes, only the training center. … err, oops I see several others have posted the same… note to self… read all replies before replying..
The free starter pack is aimed at new users of the game. Those that have zero content. With no content, there is no timetable, no scenarios, no conductor mode etc. You just have the training centre. When they purchase some DLC, they will get the other features. For the rest of us, the free starter pack is essentially a core upgrade. The other features are available because we already have content. Yes, they could have worded it slightly better.
Just to clarify, if you have the Free Starter Pack, you have a copy of TSW5 permanently and can buy any future content separately to play in TSW5. You do not need to purchase TSW5 again in order to buy add-ons, but if you don't get the Free Starter Pack before 17th October, you will need to purchase TSW5 after this date. If you're ever unsure of anything around launch, please check the FAQs.
For what it's worth, Matt clarified on the next page that owning the free edition will let you play DLC. The restriction is that you cannot buy just a route DLC and play TSW5 without owning some version of TSW5, such as the free upgrade. Edit: DTG Harry can type faster than me.
If a film is poor and tanks at the box office who is generally responsible and gets the blame? The actors, the director, the writers or the studio bosses? Generally it’s the director, as they are the ones who have oversight and control of the project. I’m afraid someone has to take responsibility for the state of the game, and I’m not entirely convinced it is not the fault of these mythical higher ups people keep referring to.
I'm saying that they "need" neutral sections the same way a modern EMU does. You have to throttle down every so often, it's hardly a game-changer that makes tap-changer locos worthless without neutral sections.
It should be possible on routes terminating in London and others such as L2B/ECW. That's my understanding anyway.
Is a glow over a city at night even possible? The draw distance on light sources isn't all that great from what have seen. If the light sources suddenly switch on as you approach them at night (from not a great distance) then how would you achieve the glow? I remember on gta5 if you use the simple trainer and enable black out mode, if you look at los Santos from a distance you still see the glow around the city. Has anyone seen this? Can this be done in ue ?
The x ed out features as only apply to the initial free purchase, as noted. Once you start adding in compatible content they become available. However the table could have been presented much more clearly.
I was quoted out of context... I was replying in the context of the question that getting the free edition was pointless, because all DLC could be purchase without needing it anyway - which is not the case. You will need either the free edition OR buy one of the other editions. Happy to accept your disappointment, and yes if you want someone to direct it to please do direct it at me, buck stops here, for sure. I do my best to deliver the best product I can to try and please the majority of players, but accept it's not going to hit the mark for everyone. For the record though, every instance of TSW has been substantially more successful than the one prior to it. So I take something positive from that at least, in terms of how the majority see it. Matt.
i have no doubt the latest tsw offering will ve succesful for you & the team.. but i really do hope this 'final' wcml timetable won't actually be final, and that there are class 710 additions, ai additions and 710 platform stop markers all to be added in the future
I am looking at options, I have nothing to promise at the moment, which is why I haven't said anything yet. Matt.
Would be nice if the scenery between Queen’s Park and harrow got some major tweaks as some of the stations (Wembley central I’m looking at you), as well as some of the OHLE gantries as I have made a thread about. Also really hope there are more 8 car services on the timetable
You look at Wembley then and I will look at Harrow Wealdstone which completely wrong and you can only access half the station, with the wcml joining up that should be the case. Done a post about Harrow Wealdstone on here too.
This sounds a bit like a busy timetable is supposed to be a personal preference, and the dissatisfied people here just had different preferences. It must've been obvious that replicating a 24-hour cycle of a full LO with only 65 playable services is NOT going to land; it's not about hitting the marks for everyone; it's about hitting a standard.
I may be taking that the wrong way, and please correct if so, because I hope it doesn't, but that does kinda read like "you have your opinions but it sells anyway so meh".
And right there is the crux. You should be happy. Your remit is to make the product successful, and you have. The players perspective is different. Successful does not always mean better. Some of the stuff written on here recently has been nothing short of a disgraceful, but most has been frustration. When it's good, TSW is damn good. We would just like some consistency in the quality of the product, so that its damn good more often than not.
Exactly. I doubt the majority of players want an unrealistic timetable. The backlash to New York to Trenton proves that. 65 Lioness Line services that is advertised as being a major part of this route when there should be around 144 services along with the number of ECS services is just not acceptable and there certainly would've been backlash It just feels like DTG prioritize getting things out of the door if it means getting immediate earnings. They keep talking about having standards, and listening to feedback but honestly there are too many times that it doesn't seem to be the case
nope, it read as "you cannot please all the people, all the time, but our info shows that for most of the time what we produce is well received"
that's fair enough, i know i and a fair few others have felt disappointed regarding the timetable mode (especially after being given genuinely great timetables with last years ECML and Goblin line) but ultimately we all want the same thing, to have the best version of TSW possible.. just keep us updated and i really hope some things can be added and enhanced with this timetable in the not too distant future
The producers 'just' lose a lot of money, unless they 'take precautions'.. Some might say that's a 'good incentive' to 'get involved'.. Isnt Matt a producer..?
I'd agree there, but you'd have to admit that the WCML hasn't met that benchmark, hence the criticism. Would you say that's a fair point? Would you also agree that the feedback you receive here (where constructive), is useful to help move things forward, and that if a common theme is ignored then that would mark a failure either technologically or directionally?
On the PS5 and the 390 motor sound loops are a bit strange. You can hear the gaps between sound loops
I'm curious about compatibility mode for the free version in combination with Birmingham Cross-City and Conductor mode. According to the FAQ, conductor mode doesn't work for owners of the free version (even with compatible routes), but that information was created before it was announced that TSW5 will enable a non-recommended version of conductor mode for this route.
That we can agree on. The game is much much better than it was in the TSW2 era and is clearly moving forward. With that said however, obviously we can’t pretend to know what goes on behind the scenes or the pressures you are under, but to many of us (and I’m not speaking on anyone’s behalf but paraphrasing conversations I’ve had) the progress of the game is absolutely glacial. Features get added which don’t really work but then never get developed further and long standing problems still haven’t been rectified (8 years and 7 iterations and we still cannot save a game reliably, and even if we could there is a single save slot for the whole game). We watched a stream last night where you demonstrated ‘conductor mode’ which is a new feature of TSW5 and all we saw was a major station with zero passengers, not a single one. We had TSW Rush Hour that was meant to add many more passengers to the game to make it feel realistic, yet here we are 3 iterations of the game later and Frankfurt station has no passengers. I don’t know about anyone else but I found it painful to watch, even more so because it wasn’t even acknowledged. There is no consistency from DLC to DLC which is amply demonstrated by the 3 launch routes for TSW5. We spoke a while back about a checklist to ensure features were included (what happened to that?) yet we still get trains where rain doesn’t land on the windscreen (including on the £30 expert 101 which is, frankly, beyond a joke and still hasn’t been patched). I could almost write a thesis on it but then it’s only a computer game, there are far worse things in the world. We’re all still here buying the content and willing it to improve and I enjoy the game despite the frustrations. TSW5 should have been another step forward on the journey but instead all the signs are that what we’re getting is a bit of a mess. We’ll find out in a couple of hours but It looks to me that the new features add very little to the game (I still really don’t get the point of this route hopping at all) and the ones that made my ears prick up then turn out to be half a job (track shadows). The collective ’you’ tell us one day that ALL TSW5 locos will have suspension then less than a week later tell us that’s not actually the case. Suspension, remember, was meant to be a TSW4 feature. All I’m saying is that at this stage I would rather hope that this sort of thing wouldn’t be happening anymore. There has to be a point where someone takes responsibility for it, takes it by the scruff of the neck and sorts it out. Perhaps trying to please the largest number of players possible is the issue? I don’t know. It’s nothing personal at all, but I do find it increasingly hard to watch these streams where there are pretty sizeable issues with the game there for all to see and they never even get acknowledged while everyone has a good old laugh. All well and good, but we’re paying a lot of money for this & the joke is slowly beginning to wear a little bit thin. I’ll shut up now. Despite everything I’m looking forward to getting the game.
I mean you could take anything that's said in a negative way if you want. But, no, I value the opinions and views of everyone - but that doesn't mean I can meet everyones expectations all the time. I totally understand the feedback. We worked hard to get the timetable to the level it's at, and accept there's a shortfall against expectation. I'm looking at options to see what we can do, and am not in a place to make any promises yet about what form that might take or a timeframe, but if I can make something happen, I will. The feedback on the forum is useful in many ways (when constructive), but it also doesn't necessarily always represent the majority view. I hear from a lot of people here and other places that ECML is a terrible route with a poor experience and why on earth did we make it... yet player numbers show it as the most popular route people play (by some margin). Again, ECML will hit the mark for many, and not for all. But yes, I'm regularly here and reading what you're all saying and trying to accommodate the requests that I can into the updates and content that we make. Matt.
The "will it work" "wont it work" feature list is for people who *ONLY* get the starter pack. It has no scenarios, so it has a cross. It has nothing to conductor mode, so it has a cross. If you have content that contains those features, then it will work just fine, the features are there in the core game but need content that works with it. Matt.
