Wcml South Feedback

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by mjc83me, Sep 9, 2024.

  1. I think they'd be missing an opportunity to actually strengthen the brand if they didn't. Low hanging fruit for a big reputational gain.

Players been trying to nudge it in that direction for years.
Same could be said about my ex wife! Didn't take long for me to realise that no amount of nudging was gonna change her lol.
To be fair I have a lot of route building behind me on ts. I can drive a route several times before I notice a floating lamp post or a dodge bit of scenery. Sometime I don't even notice and one of the kids picks it up.
Most of the games I've ever played I've found dodge assets someplace or another. Games made by multi billion dollar outfits!
I don't think the feedback falls on death ears, otherwise what would be the point of dtgs feedback threads.
Having time to put it all right is a different story.

Watching this and looking at some videos of the route in TSW just shows how sparse the lineside vegetation is too.

This is a great idea! But just yesterday I tried to transfer content from TSW 4 to TSW 5, but it turned out to be impossible. Routes and trains for different TSW's are essentially the same (they even have about the same volume in gigabytes), but apparently there are some internal limitations of the "core" that do not allow it to be implemented so simply. It seems to me that abandoning the annual issue of TSW could solve these problems. But Dovetail is so Dovetail‍...

    They definitely want it.

But as the saying goes, "I want never gets".

through footage of other people. It seems there are some bugs with the guard mode and some inaccuracy in the cab of the class 377/2.
    Will these issues be fixed?

Yeah, I was on the London side of wcml, so I was looking forward to getting this in TSW. My hopes were raised and then quickly dashed. It is nice to have a route that has a meaning to you, not everybody is lucky enough to have it.

If 50 dollar/euro/pounds is going to make you go without eating, then your focus shouldn't be video games, it should be finding another job.

Have you played ANY early access games?
Seriously.... THIS seems like a "lot" to you for early access?
Are you sure you've ever played an actual early access game before?

  11. Early access in DTG context doesn't mean beta. It means you get to play it early.
Is WCML beta? No not really. It looks pretty amazing tbh. Just let down in some areas that shouldn't really be issues at this late stage, as well as some design choices largely driven by economic factors, the latter of which we can't influence.

Which is funny because I've seen with my own eyes someone demonstrate the WCML running on TSW4.

Pay extra for 'early access' is not the same as true early access, clearly the release date could've been the 12th but FOMO and seeing other people play early is a good way to drive deluxe sales that may have otherwise been base editions. Proper early access is usually cheaper than a finished release because there are bugs and features missing, they don't make you pony up more money to be a beta tester.

Edit: Steam even has a little description of the differences of 'Advanced Access' (TSW5) and 'Early Access' (All the in development indie games) "Unlike Early Access, Advanced Access is not a unique model of development for a game, it's simply an opportunity to play a game before it fully releases on Steam."

Ah so it's "advanced access"... that explains it. Then it's just a marketing gimmick.

You can do that now kind of, get the free TSW5 and pick the DLCs you want and if you want a discount wait for the sales.

I seem to be having problems with audio on all locos on this route. Everything works fine apart from any safety systems audio (ie aws, vigilance). I just don't get any actual audio alarms. And this is on all the locos on this route. 350, 390, 377 etc. Everything else audio wise is working fine it's simply the safety system audio. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. But I'm not a newbie to the game, with over 500 hours put into it now over the years.
I'd like to add that there has been the rare occasion it sometimes does work, then when I go to start another service afterwards it's back to not working. Is this just me this is happening too? Or am I genuinely doing something wrong? Or, is it another bug on this route?
Oh and all audio is fine on San Bernadino and Frankfurt.
    Thanks for any help.

  18. This is so blindingly obvious, I actually didn't even process it. Genuinely!
Worth pointing out for dullards like me :)

Yes but then you have to wait and don't get everything you want right now at the price you want and a cherry on top =)

I think the bigger issue is whether you've got a family or not. Me and the missus decided against having kids, we still have separate bank accounts and therefore I have all the DLC I've been able to afford. My problem is all that with all the spare time not having children, this is just one of many hobbies that cost me a lot of money.

£100 is at best 4 hours of dev time, so I would imagine they would rather that time was used making content someone else will buy.

Watched that earlier. It showed how much DTG had got right, as well as highlighting the deficiencies.

People can just see things differently, doesn't mean you are dullard. That is why forums are great, you can pick up tips or tricks other people see or found.

Train_Paul 94’s videos are excellent, as good as Video 125 and free. He also does a Euston - Watford DC line Overground video.

Yeah, DTG can offer every excuse under the sun as to why wcml came to the market in such a state, but that is all they are is excuses. Even a bit of honest, to be up front and say to customers that the route isn't ready or has issues, but you are more than welcome to purchase it now and by the end of October all the issues will be solved. But to just come out with a lemon and say nothing, there wasn't enough time spent on the timetable, the bad lighting got highlighted and the guard mode had a breakdown on DTG own livestream? Egg on face mean anything and then DTG are like we have listened to players feedback and we will fix some of these issues? Errr...thanks??? Why should players have to highlight issues that quality control or beta testers should have picked up?

And you're free to not buy it and enjoy it.
Hand wringing about "this condition" and pretending to be horrified seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. How do you play ANY routes if you think this is "unplayable?" It's at least on par with most if routes, if not above average.
I'm sincerely curious what routes and locos you play that are evidence of having succeeded in achieving a high score in your book.
Truly, I want to see what "good" looks like your book to compare it with.

I mean, I told my wife I'd spent £53 pre-ordering the new TSW and she said that was extremely good value for the amount of playing hours I get out it.

Had a fun experience of sitting down with a friend who drives the 350s on the line in real life instructing me. Quite impressed that all the braking points he told me worked pretty much spot on, so the performance in terms of acceleration and braking for the 350 is really well done. I've also had a couple of good runs lately with a lot of AI traffic, even on the BKL/DC lines, so its a shame the whole day's worth of timetable isn't like that.

I've had a great time on this route now and there are some impressive details, but they just show up the annoying problems such as the terrible lighting in Euston, constant incorrect/not working/duplicated AWS magnets, 350s driving round with pitch black cabins etc. that you really wonder how it was possible they made it as far as late beta testing let alone full release. I do wonder how much impact the leaks and/or licensing issue (and if they were linked) had on the development, but then a lot of these problems are similar to those routes have released with plenty of times before, so who knows.

I'd be interested if he gave any tips on braking you'd be willing to share? For example, do they aim for a particular % braking value at all their braking points, etc etc?

NOT buy until DTG fixes the bugs, one of which is it crashes on consoles, bye Felicia!!! I pre ordered TSW4 and we found out what a knock about of fun that was and how many updates later and months. DTG still haven't fixed bugs or glitches going back to TSW2 days. So, did DTG learn their lession from TSW4, yup they sure did, they learnt they can toss TSW out in any condition, make us wait and then they can spend 6 month patching some of it, while DTG are offering/asking us to preorder and money up front for a product they know isn't finished.

Still not answering the question of which routes are you happy with and what do you personally enjoy playing?
    What is your gold standard?

The sections before and after Watford really need some work. The lighting is completely off in those spots and it’s very noticeable.

  36. Some amazing deals in here. Trainz 2022 is 80% off. There's a stack of TSW routes I'm going to pick up. Splurge time.

Edit- some if what I refer to concerns the steam element of this. Eg flight sim 24 trainz 22 etc

More timetable woe to report I'm afraid - Birmingham-bound Class 350s are scheduled in-game to stop at Platform 1 (Down Fast) at Leighton Buzzard, whereas in reality they are scheduled for Platform 3 (Down Slow), moving over just prior to LB at Ledburn Junction.

Unfortunately for our in-game timetable, this means that any Avanti services that have been slowly catching up to the said 350 services thanks to their higher top speed since Watford all have to slam on the anchors and come close to a complete stop to wait for the Birmingham semi-fast to get out of the way, which it doesn't do until just before Bletchley, a further six miles down the road.

During the excessively long stop for my 350 at Leighton Buzzard (1Y15, arrived two minutes early, caused by the calculated intermediate timings which I've droned on about before), I also noticed that for some reason a Euston-bound train is scheduled to stop on what looks to be the wrong direction track (P3) at 08:26 am - I haven't had a chance to investigate this one further yet.

Also noted on Discord earlier that 9G50 (Avanti 390 Euston - Wolverhampton) is pathed worryingly wrong - it's meant to use the slow lines all the way to Milton Keynes and beyond but is actually pathed onto the wrong-direction Up Fast at Wembley and doesn't switch back over until Watford, which I make to be nearly 10 miles of wrong-direction 125mph running! (Credit to HolWard for finding this one)

Honestly - I know this won't be a popular suggestion within DTG/Rivet but I'd bin this timetable and start again. Aside from a lack of traffic on the DC lines, there are so many things wrong that I think it would be easier to start from a clean slate.

Yeah, can't go wrong with flight simulator unless you have a ps5 :) I had the old version tranz spent days/weeks building tracks for the track to suddenly gitch out for no good reason.

I agree but sadly I can't see them making a new timetable. I do wonder what research they did to come up with the current timetable.

  49. Pretty happy at buying £340 worth of content for £13 :)
Even the missus is happy with that.
Added the simrail cargo pack to my simrail installation too.
Once I've got the tsw5 core update I'll pick up London to Brighton which is on a good deal.
    Happy Times.

Quick bug report: The DRS/ONE 66s seem to be able to sub in to any 66 working other than ones on the WCML - any chance they could be added? Cheers.
