Wasn't happy with the strange and distracting new purple sharp-edged map texture, so I've made a mod to reenable the old background which is still in the files. Note that the mod goes into the "paks", not the "DLC" folder. Don't rename it, took me a few attempts to make it load properly. It needs the "TS2Prototype" prefix. https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c19-patches/i5224-tsw5-map-background-mod
will the gray map background mod work again afterwards or is the method of your reimplementation different and makes the other mod still useless?
I don't have that gray mod. The cyan background fits the UI theme better imho. I do not modify the texture, only the reference, that's why the mod is only 7kb.
Put me off immediately too. They could've at least made it a blurry image, but then, the old background is best imho.
By user request, I will add two variants later this week, the NID gray background and the default one but tinted purple, for you to choose from.
Purple also done Cooking where it actually works For some reason, the texture looks different ingame (less color depth), looks like the game scales it down to 8bit and applies a vignette, so I'll have to adjust the palette to avoid banding, or I might just let you decide. (The 8-bit colour banding is also visible in the loading "Tip" screens and original map.)
Btw - this is what it looks like if you're not specifying a texture. It uses a predefined blue colour, and you see the vignette at the borders.
Anyone in for some detective work? Apparently the original TSW map texture is an aerial photography, with a cloud passing beneath. Where was that taken? The right and bottom side could give clues.
The mod needed to be updated as I've detected changes in the original blueprint since today's patch. Please redownload https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c19-patches/i5224-tsw5-map-backgrounds-mod Oh great. Just as I uploaded this, another TSW5 patch comes in...
mm was this not the 4th patch ? i see 4 patch dates for TSW5 and all of em have some core updates great mod btw
