Adding animated station time and display boards can help tell the passengers when the next train is departing from which side of the tracks and also gives the passengers the time when the train is coming
I thought about this many times! How often do I stay at stations and don’t know when the next train is approaching! Please DTG, this is a thing, that is missing since the game was invented!
Yes, I think DTG would made this in a month or two, but this would be a thing, that would make the game one of the most realistic Simulator!
This has been done in TS2019 with the Frankfurt U-Bahn in way. So why not with TSW. The U-Bahn ought to be the example for this feature.
DTG, please listen to what your players want. Out of everything this is probably the most requested feature that we want, yet we still have no acknowledgement if the passenger information system is even in development. Make features available to what the majority want, not the minority.
Give us what we want please Because it’s already work on Train Simulator for years without problems or on Worlds of Subway.
I agree I hope they do it as a patch update and I wish they would've added to the other new features that are coming to the game.
It be more helpful for us as players in free roam as it is hard to find out where trains are going unless you sit in the drivers seat
On this point only... DTG are a company so would need license authorisation to use the audio. It's not the same for an end user creating something, especially if it's not for profit. As soon as you put a price on something everyone wants to get paid!
Traintech are a company that make stuff for model railways- they have made animated boards and sound files (see link below). Im kind of curious why a niche railway modelling company can do it but DTG apparently cannot..
They haven't picked audio up from a youtube video. If they want to record the relevant audio manually then that's different Companies like youtube (or whoever owns the license on the recording used) might also look at traintech and look at DTG and see the difference in turnover and make a call on who they prefer to sue What we as users might like, and what is legally or technically possible are a different issue.
So why cant DTG do what this Traintech company are doing? And why would Youtube sue Traintech when they havent sourced their sound files from there? If Traintech have legally done this with their limited resources Im kind of curious why DTG cant. Just claiming "licensing issues" seems a bit of an apologists cop out to me.. it might well be the case and if you are privy to company information then perhaps you know more (and might be sailing close to the wind with NDAs) but if you are not then youre not really providing an answer to my genuine question. I appreciate the effort if you are genuinely trying to help..
I haven't got the full info on what traintech have done. I responded to someone saying "lift the audio from youtube" and you ran on it from there. Why would DTG be seen as different to traintech? DTG are a million pound turnover company. That's why license holders may see them as a more valid target than a minor company who may not have as much money I don't have insider knowledge, other than I have dealt with licensing issues in my own work from both sides so I know it's not as simple as "well it's on youtube, so it can be used, right?"
There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding going on here. Sorry if I wasnt clear- the question about traintech wasnt related to the youtube issue so sorry if you feel it was. No in fact it was a very simple open ended question about how that model railway company was creating a product and how that might relate to DTG. I honestly havent a clue and was just curious to see if there are any genuine barriers to it happening- not a loaded question although as a previous forum participant I appreciate how one has to tread on eggshells on here. For clarity- I uninstalled TSW some 6 months ago and have popped back at this auspicious moment to check out TSW2020, but I have to be honest- as GWE is my go to route Im obviously feeling a bit underwhelmed by it all.. info boards and immersion stuff would have been great, or if theres a likelyhood anytime soon.. Im sure you get my drift..
I have a full range of station announcements I am planning on using once/if DTG decides to implement a passenger information system.
The only barrier I can see is how the routing system works when it comes to the consists and where they would be at a given point, and then adding in the vagary of players being behind or ahead of the scheduled time Other than that it's a simple programming issue...
Yes, thats a good point. Its very possible its not as simple as it seems. I guess some kind of trigger/marker/sensor system that could detect where services are in real time could be linked to it- although Im totally speculating from a non tech knowledge perspective. Hopefully some solution might be found. Looks like I'll be sticking with Kerbal Space Program and PC2 for my gaming fix in the meantime as TSW is such a hard drive hog for what it offers that it isnt really worth it for me. I still keep an eye on progress though
Here's one example announcement I've made. It re-creates the scene at Manchester Piccadilly. Pretty simplistic but I can make it a lot more detailed. One of many things I can do with announcements.
Just a quick observation, in TS201X, there was a company that provided a way to provide in-train announcements for existing scenarios and routes. It was an external program where you would have to choose the route and scenario, then go to TS201X and run the scenario. While it worked ok, it wasn’t without problems like long pauses in running the scenario would get the announcements out of sync. You couldn’t save and return later since it was an external program. While these problems could probably be overcome with an internal program with respect to the user’s train, station announcements for AI trains being made when the user’s consist is late, or playing only when the user’s consist is in proximity is going to take some amount of processing power. Just wondering how much since sounds all ready seem to be a factor on mid-powered machines. And if implemented, what will be the affect on those who are on marginal hardware? I am all for this feature, just do not think it is as easy of an addition as many people in this thread would lead others to believe.
I No this my experience with station and train announcements in TS201X - also stating putting in these features is not as straight forward as many imply... I thought that statement was pretty clear... if not, I hope this helps.
Must have forgotten to read with my humor filter on.... ... with English being my second language over Texan, just wanted to make sure I had stated things clearly....
DTG’s Steve is very helpful, these guys must be on holiday who actually care about the community. Bumping it yet again. I’ve put TSW down until there’s some significant new features or such.
As far as I’m aware it’s being worked on by a developer in their spare time. So there’s certainly no rush or urgency for it, as far as they are concerned. From what I gather, don’t expect it anytime soon.
