Preface, I've played TSW since 2020 and never had an issue. Fired up TSW5 on the WCML, and within 5 mins my head is swimming, I don't what is going on, or what the change(s) are, but it's really not good! Anyone else noticed anything?
Could be the new suspension effects? I had a bit of this when BPO first came out and the Pacer was bouncing up and down like billy ho. Not just playing but when I watched the preview clips on YT on a normal TV. I think the problem is, the effects are more rhythmic than random and tend to be up and down rather than lateral. Need to see if there’s a setting to tone it down without losing the effect altogether.
Oh, yeah, never thought about that, I'm not at my console but is the effect switchable to see if it helps?
If you’re close to the monitor or tv this will cause a dizzy spell. Try backing away from it. Oh yeah drink some water this will probably help
Am I right in saying that the 350 doesn’t have the suspension effects? Maybe trying driving that on WCML and see if you experience the problem.
Also the view is more restricted from the 350 “letterbox” window than the panoramic front of the Pendie.
I have to agree with the OP. I had no issues with TSW3, and 5 min's into playing this one I've got nausea. Even when exploring on foot. I have turned all the motion settings right down, still no change. Yet I'm using the same screen and PC. I'm sitting the same distance from the screen. For me it's just unplayable.
Interesting. I had a sudden moment that felt weird, running a northbound 710 on WCML with light clouds. There was a moment where I felt the clouds would slightly sway back and forth relative to the distant scenery, as if it were a slightly rotating backdrop while the scenery itself was stable - possibly an issue with suspension code? I can see this causing motion sickness. The safest thing would be to completely disable Camera Motion Sway, which gives a steady driving experience. Probably in some cases suspension + high cam sway settings can make you feel sick. There's certain rhythmic patterns at certain speeds on certain stock that feels disturbing to me. It might be realistic, but we're sitting in front of a computer display, which is different than our body feeling actual suspension. Switching suspension from "Improved" to "Standard" made no difference to me. So if you're feeling dizzy - turn off Camera Sway.
Yes, and btw your position in the cab, be it close to the window or laid back, should have no effect. Rather a change of FOV (the angle that's in your view) would. GodMode can do this (close zoom or fish eye view).
Problem with disabling camera sway is that it puts you back to MSTS, just floating along the track. It’s not an issue running TSC, Run 8 or SimRail or even Derail Valley. just a particular peculiarity of TSW. Something they need to sort out urgently.
There is also an occassional slingshot effect on the camera on vehicles with new suspension (especially happened to me on FTF 146.2). Sometimes when I pause the game, the camera suddenly moves towards an odd angle completely off the cab, and when I unpause it, it slingshots back at full speed into the normal view and bounces around before stabilising again. It's surely uncomfortable for everyone, but for people with epilepsy and similar conditions this can be seriously dangerous.
The only thing I can suggest is sit further away from the screen if you can. I am on Console and have it at 4k on the TV and the PS5. I havent suffered with motion Sickness with the suspension update or cab sway. Currently I am sat around 7ft away in my rather comfy arm chair :p and the TV is 55" Even when I am sat in front of the PC (at norrmal distance away from me) I havent suffered with it. Although using the console , If I am walking around the TSW world and if I stand up or am standing up in real life then I start feel really sick and dizzy. To be honest most First Person games make me do this if I stand up. Its your brains perception seeing that you are walking but you are not moving and it gets confused, hence the feeling sick and dizzy feeling. Not sure whats causing the motion sickness though if you are sitting down away from the screen. the only thing I can suggest is the suspension, that hopefully you can turn off. If not that needs to be reported asap. I have Menieres disease so to give some of you that have never heard of it a better understanding. Those of you that have got absolutely rat arsed the night before, staggered home and into bed and then wake up the following morning with an almighty hangover. Well I have the staggering about (not all the times, just when I have a bad attack), and I also have the non Alcohol induced Hangover literally every day. When it gets bad for example, if I turn my head to the left.... the room catches up 5 seconds later. (even had the police had to pick me up for drunk and disorderly, but I was having a Menieres attack (during the day time long story lol). This is one reason why I cannot play VR games (yes I had a PSVR and it landed me in hospital lol). To be honest I would recommend dial down the cab sway and turn off the suspension. Just do one at a time and or gradually to a level where you feel ok. and not as sick and dizzy. Other things, sit in a bright well lit, room, not so close to the screen (if you can). Take a 15 minute breather every hour. Invest in some Stemitil (anti Sickness tablets). Also check to make sure its just TSW thats doing. I suffered Motion sickness playing thr campaign mode for Call of Duty Black OPS 2. Where you had to rescue the guy called Woods. I couldnt play it with out the sick and dizzyness happening. If it persists after you have done all of the above, then perhaps seek medical advice (if you can get an appointment that is) you know they will tell you to stop playing or take a break etc etc , but if it still persists then I would f=definitly chase it up. It took me 5 years to be finally diagnosed with it, that was after multiple 999 call outs and overnight stays in the hospital. Cheers Hentis
I would recommend turning down the cab sway if the vehicle you are driving has suspension physics simulated. The old cab sway somewhat "compensated" for there not being any suspension simulation (or at least that's how it felt to me) so if you have a high level of cab sway and now also the vehicle has suspension enabled the result will be exaggerated. Plus the old cab sway simulation was never really that great (imho) since it's not really good at simulating all the damping that happens to your view point IRL (your neck muscles, inertia of your head, back, legs and so on, a bunch of coupled springs with damping from a physics perspective). If you had it at 100% before, maybe try 50% now when driving a train with suspension physics enabled.
