i keep getting the emergency brakes applied at random, ENDE flashes on my speedometer display, i press release and acknowledge because idk which one actually gets the ENDE thing to not apply emergency brakes, which doesnt get my brakes applied temporarily (sometimes) but them like 10 seconds later my emergency brakes get applied. sometimes i get the emergency brakes to somehow stop braking and idk how i still do it, other times as of my brakes being applied, my throttle just stops giving power and i cant get it to give power again. how does PZB and LZB actually work so i dont need to stop mid service because of it applying brakes? the ingame guides dont help at all so yeah
Are you making sure you're slowing down enough to hit the 160 restriction at the end of the LZB section? I'm not sure how it works IRL, but the LZB will not slow you down on it's own to meet the 160 restriction at the end of LZB and the start of PZB. You also have to make sure you return the throttle and AFB back to zero after the switch from LZB to PZB.
You need to press the RELEASE button when you see the ENDE indicator blinking. If you do it correctly, it will stop blinking and be static ON until you get out of the LZB zone. As soon as you see the ENDE indicator blinking, you need to start acknowledging any PZB events you find. The very moment you get out of the LZB zone the current PZB state comes into effect. Meaning, if you didn't acknowledge any magnet you will get an emergency brake application, or if you did acknowlege any magnet you need to be within the speed limits, etc ... AFB always needs to be reset after you get out of LZB. The exact procedure depends on the unit (at least in the game) but most of the time setting throttle to 0, AFB to 0, AFB back to the speed you want and then throttle to 100% usually works.
I was wondering about this. Because in the BR101 this procedure does not have to be followed as the AFB does not need to undergo reset. Is the procedure specific to only BR 4xx? Asking as I am curious
I think this is how it works on most of the German locos. Even on the Vectron all you need to do is reconfirm your speed set
In real life, you always have to reset AFB after you exit LZB because when you are under LZB you can set AFB to maximum and power to 100% and LZB will set the effective AFB speed limit to the maximum allowed by the line. If you exited LZB at that point your AFB effective limit would just change to the maximum the loco can do without requiring any confirmation, and that would be unsafe. So the driver has to reset AFB to make sure he knows what speed limit is set.
Does it mean you need to act fast when resetting AFB? Because in game, when you set AFB to 0, a max break will be applied until it's set back to desired speed.
Yes, or you can turn AFB off before resetting and then turn it back on again. This is more or less essential on console as there’s no way to move the AFB control quickly enough to prevent a brake application. I always turn AFB off then reduce it to zero well before the end of an LZB section, and then select the new max speed and turn it back on once back under PZB supervision. It works fairly well as a way to deal with it.
