With many early access PlayStation users unable to import their TSW4 profiles into TSW5, I figured it was time to write out this suggestion.

Our TSW profiles should be synced into the Dovetail Live cloud. We shouldn't ever have to worry about medal progress, journey mode progress, etc. being lost. It should all sync to the cloud. We also wouldn't have to worry about profile backups, hardware failure, corruption, etc. if we had cloud profiles. Cloud profile syncing could also enable players to traverse devices or even platforms at will.

Currently, players who start on the PS4 version of TSW have no way to migrate their progress into the PS5 version. I lost about 300 hours of progress myself when I upgraded to PS5. I've now put over 1,500 hours into my PS5 profile. I back it up regularly, but I'm still afraid to lose my progress! Although the PS6 is still years away, PS6 players will eventually need a way to import their PS5 profiles without losing hundreds to thousands of hours of progress.

DTG, can you please add cloud profile syncing to next year's major core release? We really need a way to protect the progress of players who have invested so much time. Thank you!

Unfortunately, this only applies to mastery progress and rewards. Journey progress, service progress, and driver level are still tied to the local TSW profile. Our Dovetail Live account/profiles should include all of our TSW progress, but they currently do not. Please implement this, DTG! :)

    Bump.

I was fortunate to not have any trouble importing my profile when upgrading from TSW5 to TSW6. Others have not been as lucky. Players across all platforms have experienced trouble getting their profiles imported into TSW6. Sometimes the problems are procedural user errors or lack of experience working with TSW profiles or filesystems. In rare cases, user profiles can be corrupted or disappear entirely. Console players are particularly susceptible to these issues because we have fewer means to protect our profiles.*

In a game where players can log hundreds to thousands of hours into a single profile, we should have more protection for our game progress. We should have the option to sync all of our timetable progress, journey progress, etc. into the Dovetail Live cloud. This would help to eliminate profile confusion when upgrading TSW versions, and it could enable players to switch platforms without losing progress.

Speaking of switching platforms, PS4 players still have no way to import their TSW progress into the PS5 version if they choose to upgrade. This is particularly puzzling and frustrating because countless other PS5 games are able to import saved game data from their PS4 counterparts. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that DTG made the choice to not implement this capability. This problem could also be resolved by implementing cloud-synced profiles. As a PS5 player, I sure hope that DTG has a solution for this in place for when the PS6 inevitably comes.

DTG Matt, we can deal with the pain of yearly TSW releases, but we cannot deal with the pain of losing hundreds to thousands of hours of progress. Please help us by implementing more protections for our time investments! Thank you!

*As a PlayStation player, you should be regularly backing up your saved game data to a USB drive if you want to protect your profile from corruption or hardware failure. The PlayStation Plus cloud save feature is not sufficient because it only stores one version of the save, and this can easily be overwritten by a corrupt save, leaving you with no backup at all. I hope to write a guide for backing up and restoring PlayStation TSW data to/from a USB drive on the FAQ/Guide forum someday!
