On YouTube, King SIM demonstrates how to run on the second, incomplete line ... that it exists can be seen on a rail map. Will it be completed soon to add some freight variety and some alternate routing ? Is this why FlixTrain runs out of Frnkfrt Sud ?
I think Frankfurt Sud acts as a supplementary station for some IC traffic... and in case Hbf is undergoing some construction or isnt fully operational for any reason, Sud acts also as a substitute for some traffic I think
No... Frankfurt Süd is the real calling point for Flix. No... DTG have already stated that they won´t be doing this. Someone asked a DTG staff member who is active on Railsim.
No. FlixTrain uses Frankfurt Süd because it is a low cost operator, just like low cost airlines often use secondary airports rather than the main hubs.
I thought it was because Flix doesn't use a cabcar and can't change direction easily at Frankfurt Hbf.
Considering FlixTrain use the main station in Berlin, I think this is definitely the main reason. In Frankfurt Süd they can just run around with the loco to head back. That said, in the current IRL timetable the train does not terminate in Frankfurt, but continues to Mainz.
Quite sad to know that they originally did plan to include this section, laid all the track and most of the signals, but then couldn't bother to finish the scenery. I really, really hope someone at DTG picks this up as a 'passion project' and manages to fully implement it in the game. It is not some barely-used alternative route, but actually a very busy railway, used by freight , ICE, RB, and RE services. It houses a large 'Umschlagbahnhof' (intermodal terminal) which would offer a natural place for container trains to start or end (make sure to practice your 'Schwungfahrt', to get your electric train through the non-electrified section of the yard....)
What I wonder is how much effort was actually burnt doing this part of this route, effort that could have been used to iron out the issues that got into the final release of this route. Especially considering the issues are mainly in the areas were effort was wasted... i.e. signaling. It also shows that correct work estimations are still huge problem for DTG.
The route is already not particularly performant, especially on mid-range PCs and especially on consoles, which are currently constantly crashing. I don't think it would be a good idea to expand it any further. Instead, DTG should remove everything that was once planned but is now obsolete in order to reduce the already large memory requirements and instead invest in optimization and possibly in layers. Not a popular opinion, I know.
