Really? I thought you were trying to sell us on this route, why no preview?

Or is it being ignored because its US content as usual.

Right. I was surprised when they reported "no streams" for next week. Perhaps an oversight. I was also under the impression that we would be getting the all-important timetable-and-layers article by today. Well the day isn't done but so far, nothing.

    Needs an update/explanation from DTG.

I took the entire day off from retirement to watch the preview stream next week.

In the article it says release on 29th and then straight after says the preview is also on 22nd. That doesn’t make any sense so it may have meant to say the preview is also on 29th which would make sense. We’ve had previews on release day before so it wouldn’t be that unusual.

It certainly doesn't, lol. The few previes shots we got are already quite suspicious. Lighting is all over the place and the case of the weird ballast... And we barely see anything of the scenery.

In any case, looking forward to the preview stream (or more preview articles, if we get any). As I tend to say, hoping for it to end up being good, because I would like to get it. The base TSW5 routes don't really interest be, but this one would if it's actually executed well.

It’s only US content, nothing of importance to me. Going to wash my pants instead, they’re piling up.

Until some of the core issues with TSW5 get properly sorted, not that keen to add another full price DLC to the mess. And while I'm sure everyone involved worked hard on the route, it's just another US commuter route no real unique interest, when I've already got several already only part played.

Although DTG-made routes have generally improved in quality over time, as folks are saying, there's nothing here which we haven't already got in Boston-Providence or the west coast commuter routes. How about a decent length US shortline with a new loco thrown in? (Alco please) I would be surprised if licencing were a problem; a shortline would surely jump at the chance of free publicity/exposure, and the glamour of a virtual representation in TSW alongside the big operators.

That's a quite silly thing to say. Many could have the same opinion about yet another german route with red locos and white ICEs, or another UK route with the same looking EMUs.

This could be a good thing - if the route isn't in good shape, I'd rather DTG delayed release and fixed the issues first than released another issue riddled route tbh.

Oh don't worry, they will release it on the 29th anyway. They just don't show it to you in advance so you don't cancel your preorder.

Well that happens to be my view which I am quite entitled to :)... I just don't see me spending money on this when the experience is not vastly different to Boston Sprinter (maybe less snow), SF Corridor and the 2 LA routes. All of which I played a bit and put aside. Not worth £30 anyway. And I am applying the same thought process to German and UK routes as well!

Edit: Also as it happens I have Boston to Springfield on TSC which is much nicer being set back in the Alco era, as I think someone else mentioned.

Haha, unfortunately probably true. We can dream though. Not sure if this one is pre-order able though? Might be, just hadn't seen that anywhere. Sentiment still stands.

I could say the same about the upcoming WCML. Not my cup of tea and I won't be getting that one.

Thats fine if you are not interested, personally I like US commuter so I am looking forward to this.

I hope we get more MBTA, MTA, NJT and Metrolink routes to complete the networks.

This may surprise you but not everyone likes just UK or German routes.

Some of us can't stand Freight or Steam or older routes either. And prefer just modern commuter rail.

It all different what we like nothing wrong with that.

Just to follow on from Matt's message, we'll provide more information on Monday.

Don't worry, you'll be able to see the route on a preview stream before its release.

Glad to hear that, thanks for the info!

Same. I used to like Boston Sprinter, but the scenery is not the best and the lighting is really off since the TOD overhaul. Hopefully the new route is better.

So either a preview on the 28th or a delay to the release seem to be the likely news.

Honestly if Dovetail came out and said they need to delay the route to fix issues, I’d be perfectly fine with it. Going off the screenshots I’m hoping it does get delayed or fixed because those screenshots didn’t look promising at all to me..

Good decision from DTG - https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/an-update-on-the-mbta-commuter-launch.86332/

[QUOTE="After discussion with our teams regarding the release of the MBTA Commuter Add-on, which was originally scheduled for launch on 29th October, we have made the decision to delay the release until 12th November.

For those excited to see more of the route, we understand that delays can be frustrating, but this extra time will allow our dev team to ensure that everything is as polished as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we take the time to make sure you’re getting a positive experience from the route. As a result of this, the MBTA Commuter Preview Livestream will also be pushed back to the 5th November."[/QUOTE]

Lesson learned from the TSW5 release routes, hopefully. Though quite a hefty delay would seem to indicate significant issues with it.

Could also be that issues with the latest patch means some staff had to be pulled to that, which slowed the final polish on this route.

Possibly. But more because the patch has banjaxed the game, as the route builders unlikely to be the same people who do the coding.

I'd lean towards that the poor optimisation of the core product has caused the route to run below optimal performance on consoles, so they've delayed it to get the first of the core optimisation patches out the door.

Instead of rushing content out the door approach all time, I’m glad DTG are putting on the brakes with this. Extra polish and better optimisation is always welcome. Although I think I’m setting my expectations too high with the ‘better optimisation’ part ;) we’ll see, fingers cross they release a good route as American content is greatly needed.

Apparently, you have completely forgotten about the rules in the gaming industry: postponing a release is NOT an indicator that it is a sign of improvement or bug fixes, kek

Well, i think it's a good decision as there seemed to be little confidence or excitement from the team about this launch, so maybe they've learned some lessons from the WCMLS debacle.

Otoh, 2 weeks isn't a ton of time so we probably need to temper expectations a little bit.

Seems like a " right hand, left hand " thing.
Obviously the route wasn't " ready " but someone forgot to tell the PR guys.

If the extra time is spent polishing the route, we should expect it to be devoid of the problems that affected San Bernadino, viz: floating vehicles, erratic grade crossings and signalling issues.

That highly depends on what the current state of the route is. If it's like you say and they spend the next 2 weeks on polishing, then yes. But if the route currently is unpresentably bad and they simply spend the next 2 weeks to make it tolerable, then we will be getting the usual US route quality anyway.

Well, we will see. Looking forward to seeing more preview articles.

The don't? You don't have to get every DLC there ever is. Buy only those that you are actually interested in.
