    Hi ,

I have an new Suggestion about a lovely Route in the Deep Black Forrest in Germany . I speak about
the "Murgtalbahn" , wich begins in Rastatt and runs trought the Murgtal , up to Freudenstadt in the
North of der Black Forrest . Here is a litte Overview from the about 60 km long Route :

Since 2004 are running S-Bahn Services from the AVG on the Route wich you can see here :

In the Summer Time there is every Sunday and sometimes Saturdays ab Bike Express on the Route :

An 5 times in the Year you can find a Steam Train :

From Baiersbronn to Freudenstadt , the Route is very steep , but the modern S-Bahn can drive this
steep section without Problems . Its a Single Track route , where Trains can pass each other on some
of the Stations . Here is a litte Impression aboute The Route from Youtube ( not the complet route ) :

I Hope you like my Suggestion and please excuse my Englisch

This could be an interesting route, especially if it comes with rolling stock that isn't extremely modern...

If you build it arround 2003/2004 , you can mix the S-Bahn with the BR 218 like here in the Video .

I'm especially in for the n-Wagen and a matching loco, whether it's diesel (218) oder electric (like the 110)!

This would be a lovely route in TSW if the scenery is built properly (not like the Arosa Line). Whilst the Murgtalbahn itself is already 60km long I think an extension to Karlsruhe Hbf via the Rheintalbahn would be appropriate since half of the regular passenger services on this line end at Karlsruhe Hbf. With this section of the Rheintalbahn, you could also layer the BR 146 and Dostos for the RE2 and RE7 services on this section. The drive would be pretty short, as they mostly only stop in Karlsruhe and Rastatt but it would add at least a little more diversity.

What new loco could potentially be used here?

Unique to the route is the use of the Stadbahn locomotives, which are like a transition between tram and Regionalbahn. However the route is one of, if not, the steepest one in Germany with gradients up to 50 permille. Wow.

The GT8-100D/2S-M should be favored over GT8-100C/2S the because of the steepness permission, which allows the to run it the whole line, even on the steeper gradients in the southern part.

The older version GT8-100C/2S only can be used between Rastatt and Forbach because it does not have the permission to run on the steeper gradients.

The ET 2010 has since 2015 steepness permission and can be used as well.

A similar problem with the steepness permission for these guys here.

The 628 were used on the route but only between Freudenstadt and Beiersbronn if I got it correctly.

The 627, in contrary to the 628, therefore were used for the sections with the steeper gradients as it has steepness permission.

Since the creation of this thread and the last posts in here, there has been a change on the route in December 2022. The Stadtbahn-Express services are run with the some Alstom Continental ones (BR 1440) by the DB now.

Or of course vintage locos like the BR 228

It can be used, but it would definitely be the least logical choice since they aren't actually used there on a regular basis. Personally, I've never seen an ET 2010 on the Murgtalbahn that wasn't used for driver training. They might find their way there in revenue service on occasion, but they aren't part of the usual vehicle pool for the route.

Posted this elsewhere, but this is the proper place.

Probably the best documentary on the Murgtalbahn, from german SWR's Eisenbahnromantik series.

I had been living in lovely Gernsbach for 12 years, and seeing this route in TSW would be a dream come true. I can recommend a few good pensions for the research team :)

Also, the 628 and 218 were regulars on the route before electrification, I know both eras from personal experience, moving my home to Gernsbach in 1997 before electrification..

Bring it on to the game furthermore if you have RRO oddly the 1440 will layer to it as S8 making it but it has as of right now alternating between 422 & 1440. HRR RB33 since December 2020. This is one of those trains simulator classic roots that is highly requested for the tram Vehicles if they can make this one then the Boston Green Line would work
