How To Edit An Existing Route Or Session To Add Speed Limits?

    On the Retro Canvas Route (fictional route in The Netherlands) I find on the track ahead that there are many missing speed limit markers. Some stations you can pass with full speed (maximum 130 km/h) but others have a 40 km/h speed limit which starts just before the station . Then again, after the station at some point which is not marked, the speed limit is back to 130 km/h.
    In the user guide it is mentioned that there can be speed limit markers.
    Can I add these missing speed limit markers myself? Should I edit the rout or the session? Is there some place in the documentation where setting these markers and maybe als signals, is explained?

    Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I like to be able to drive the full route without speeding and it would be nice to have speed limit markers at the right places so that I can reduce or increase speed.

    If you Edit the route in a Scenario the changes would only apply for that one Scenario
    You need to Edit the Route in the Build menu

    Go in to Build the find the route and go to one of the places you know the speed changes
    Press the Spacebar 4 times and the track is now coloured ribbons

    Now in the selection box on the left first click on the Home icon (house on top row) then the Signal Icon
    Select 1.jpg
    Come down the list until you find a speed board you wish to use
    I picked TSA - DE Speedsign Lf7 Post

    Place it at the side of the track where the speed changes and you will have a Gizmo which should, in this case be in the Pink section. - It then shows the speed from the colour change
    If it is not facing the right way click on the Rotate button in the box at the bottom of the screen

    Thanks 749006, this is really useful. The problem I keep having though is how to save the changes. I have edited one of my own Scenarios in Western Mainline {JT} and on all but one occasion it seems to corrupt all Western Mainline scenarios. When I go into them to drive after I've saved my changes I get the Out of Memory message with some reference to the DRIVERS. I have to go back to my backup. I'm obviously not saving correctly. I've used both F2 and the orange box. At what point do you press the F2 button? Does it take a long while to save and am I being too impatient as sometimes the game seems to freeze after I press OK? Any ideas would be gratefully received.

    Depending on the size of the map it can take some time to save.

    If you edit a Scenario then the Edit would only work in that one scenario.
    If you want the edit to work on all routes - like the speed board above - you need to be in the Route Editor

    Hi Andrew,

    Depending on the size of a route, it can take a long time to save anything track-related as it will completely re-compile the route. I think some Just Trains routes are quite large so after pressing F2 just be patient and let it do its thing. You might even get a message in the title bar saying "not responding" but just go and do something else and let it get on with it. Eventually the message box will go and all will be done.

    Aside of that I can't think of any reason for your scenarios to become corrupted unless maybe they are Career Scenarios configured to no longer work if the route has been edited. I believe this sometimes happens as a means to stop cheating on the score front.

    If Tracks.bin has been corrupted because of impatience not allowing it to be saved fully then NO scenario will run.

    Most track linked objects aren't set to be used at scenario level, so whilst the editing may start in the scenario you'd need to drop into the world editor to add speed signs.

    When you press F2 and save, wait for the white save box in the centre of your screen to disappear, then you know it's saved.

    The Western Mainlines is a massive route and make take quite a few minutes before the white save
    box disappears.

    Watch YouTube videos on using the Editor. Matt of Dovetail games has made some excellent videos on using the Editor.

    Thanks everyone for your assistance. It turned out to be my impatience was the problem. Most saves on TSC have been almost instantaneous but saving after amending some speed limits took a few minutes.

    Also, to confirm Gary's point, the changes I have made have affected ALL scenarios on the Western Mainline (JT) route despite me only going in at scenario level, which I am ok with. Next for me to tackle will be errant signals!

    A further word of advice, in case you are not already doing this, take a backup of the route before you start making changes....that way in case you mess things up completely you can restore from your backup, my backup route copies have got me out of jail on numerous occasions.

    This. And be aware that Cloning routes will mess them up if the origins in the template and RouteProperties.xml are different - Cloning will always use the template file's origin coordinates.
