Hey there, I tried to create my own tracks for my route, but somehow the rails I modeled don't work. When I try to use my own rail mesh as static mesh for "Rail Cross Section" in the ribbon loft descriptor, they simply do not appear. If, on the other hand, I use the rails from existing DLC, this works perfectly. Here I have used the rails from Marseille - Avignon. And here I have tried to use my own rails. Do any of you know what the problem might be and how I can fix it?
Hey there, It‘s me again. I‘m currently working on the junction compartments of my custom track, and I've run into a problem modeling custom Wing Rails. Here‘s a quick overview of the current state: The Frog (green), which is already complete. The „normal“ rail (blue) that is supposed to end where it meets the red wing rail. The Wing rail (red) that overlaps with the „normal“ rail and need to transition smoothly into it without any excess parts. In the attachments, you can see an image of my current Blender setup and a reference image of a real railway switch. Current 3D Model: Reference Image: My goal is to make the blue and red rails "merge" seamlessly at the transition, so there are no overlapping parts and the wing rails (red) meet the standard rails (blue) smoothly (as seen in the reference image). So far, I've tried the following method: 1. Merge Objects: I merged the rail parts. 2. Intersect (Knife): I used the "Self-Intersection" option with the tool. 3. Merging Vertices by Distance: I merged vertices by distance and then tried to manually delete the overlapping vertices at the ends of each rail section. However, this doesn’t seem to work, as at some points vertices aren’t being created where edges or faces intersect. When I then try to delete the Vertices at the end of the excesses, some Faces on the part I want to keep get messed up/disappear. How can I correctly cut these overlapping parts and connect the rails so they look like the reference image? Is there a more efficient method or a specific setting with the knife tool that I may have missed? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
I haven't had a chance to customize my junctions much on my track, though many of my track component assets such as the wing rails are still sourced from the training centre for the time being. For me, the switches seem to be generating their own blades/frogs (with correct animation) from my (custom) rail profile dynamically, so I haven't had to poke around with their settings too much, other than making sure the 3rd rail doesn't intersect the tracks. If you're editing the mesh in blender, a good first step would be to go face-by-face and check that its' vertices are the ones on the newly formed faces, and that the faces have the expected number of vertices (it should say at the bottom of the screen.) It sounds like (maybe?) some of your old faces aren't being deleted after using the knife tool. As a last resort, you could delete just the problematic faces themselves (leaving the lines), check that your lines are all connected properly, and make new faces from selected lines. As an aside, You may find the trick of snapping the 3d cursor to one or more vertices; pressing "." and selecting the cursor as the center of your transforms, then selecting another vertex you want to align to the first, and scaling to 0 along the desired axis can help a lot in squaring up misaligned vertices. I just learned that one this year, and I've used it quite often. Hope some of that is of use to you! Also, your images are broken, at least on my browser. I'm getting error 1011: The owner of this website (i.sstatic.net) does not allow hotlinking to that resource (/gwOsCc7I.png).
So what I did was I took out of UE one of the track models as a reference to make mine. Also, junctions are a big confusing and just need trial and error imo
Hi Guys. I hope you are doing well. Could you please provide some documentation to import a custom made track? I searched everywhere, and found nothing so far. I also tried to copy the values from an existing track, however the editor crashed so I am stuck at this point. Also I have some question marks for the junctions how it should be made as the animations and materials used are compiled. Any kind of assistance is much appreciated.
