Hi all, just wanted to post about this as it's quite literally one issue with the game that really bothers me at the moment. I understand it's been reported before, however I can only find one post back from the TSW3 days so I wanted to make a new one. Granted I do have some timetable/route EPs installed, but it seems whenever there's a higher number of AI services present such as at a terminus station, the game will have these periods (usually ranging from a few seconds to a minute or so) where the framerate drops hugely to around 10-15fps. I do not believe this is an issue with general sim performance/PC specs, as outside of these specific times the game runs perfectly smoothly at 30-40+ pretty consistently, so it seems to me like there is a critical level so to speak of AI services the game can have loaded at one time before things start to crawl. If anyone else experiences this, do we know of any workarounds or if this is being looked at officially? It's a shame because again, aside from this the game runs pretty excellently. Much appreciated!
How much RAM do you have ? With Modded Timetables that run many AI-Services you should have 32GB of Ram.
Yep, I have 32GB lol I do run Process Lasso which in most games actually frees up MORE RAM for the game to use... but perhaps it's interfering with TSW. I'll try keeping it off and see if that works any better - will keep you posted
Alright I've kinda found the culprit - shadow quality. I turned it down (and off) and frame rate skyrocketed in previously laggy areas. I believe the game struggles to render shadows on so many trains at once - perhaps we need a view distance setting on them!
Here's a video showing what I mean here - this only lags anywhere near this bad when lots of AI are present, otherwise turning off shadows doesn't really have much of an impact: For reference, my specs are: Ryzen 7 5700X3D RTX 2060 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz This PC runs the game perfectly well usually, it's purely in this situation.
Found a fix for this! Dear god, turn this setting off LOL it literally ruined my TSW performance when on:
This is off by default, I never used that one luckily. https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/hardware-accelerated-gpu-scheduling/
