It really makes you wonder if they ever test anything before release, or are we the BETA testers.

Sorry to be posting this here

Exactly. How hard could it be to set up some automated testing pipelines that run through the entire timetable everytime route is updated? Get a couple of servers set up, Gitlab CI/CD, and you’re off.

Thing is that having ai simulate it and hand testing produce different results. Issues appear in one but not the other

You could just start up timetable mode and let it run for a full day, that would catch any issues with services under AI control that timetable simulation didn't.

But how would they even accomplish that? They can't just follow one service all day or just railfan at a station and have a person watching 24/7 with no rest. Plus it would take an extremely long time since it would end up running in real time

They don't need to watch it 24/7.

The average work day is 8 hours. One does four hours, then another takes over. Only around 3 or 4 people needed, two or three days later and there we go. Not hard to figure out.

They should be watching their timetables manually anyway as some sort of failsafe in case the timetable simulation doesn't work.

So their job would to be watch the map for four hours to see if on the off chance, there's a fault?

...per timetable. Not even per route, per timetable. No idea how many routes exist for TSW total, but even if we take just the 43 that I have installed, and assume that each of them only has one timetable, each of which is exactly 24 hours long, and we pay these people minimum wage (12,81€ in Germany), every single TSW update now costs DTG an additional thirteen-thousand Euros compared to today.

Of course, there are routes I don't have, many routes have more than one timetable, some timetables are longer than 24 hours, and I can't imagine people are lining up to get minimum wage for looking at TSW.

    Indeed.

"Set up" to do what, exactly? No point having CI if you don't have any meaningful test scripts. Is it even possible to write a test script to check for the sequence of events that has to happen as a train drives along a route? I imagine "how hard" == "too hard". It's not like you're testing for the odd 404 error here. It's a realtime system, with all the emergent behaviour those entail...

We have spent manual time watching the timetable for this route. Mark spent a number of days over a few weeks keeping an eye on all movements at every station to ensure all worked as intended :)

In theory it works, although I didn't consider the many different timetables there are, which makes it not practical unless you're looking for a specific fault.

Let the game run for 24 hours and then check if any services are stuck.

They wouldn't have free staff to do the work and certainly wouldn't hire random people to watch it. Also, considering the timetable is always being worked on until close to release, do they rewatch the entire timetable every time they add one additional service? That would mean dlcs never release if they do it for all timetables and every time there is a small change

I'm not stupid, I know it's not practical, but in theory (like I said above) it works.

I would advise you read this post straight from the horse's mouth just three above your post which states, 'We have spent manual time watching the timetable for this route' and perhaps get off your high horse.

Apparently the engine sheds at Tebay were rumoured to be haunted, railway workers said they had felt uneasy around the depot. I saw a photo a few years ago in a railway magazine, taken in 1967 a hooded figure standing on the hill beside the line at Tebay with a steam hauled train in the photo too. I bet the ghost isn't in the JT route....or is it?

The slow line Tunnels at Watford are also reputed to be haunted as well.

Clayton Tunnel on BML was also said to be haunted too! It's always interesting isn't it! 75027 which is now on the bluebell was said to be haunted as well!

British EMU 450101 (South Western Railway) is apparently haunted as well with the ghost of a young girl being spotted either in the Secondmans seat or reflected in the window sitting in the seat. Apparently she was k!lled when the train was on test.

Now you got me wondering if there are or were any ghost stories about dead people on either APTs or pacers.

As for the Pacer ;if someone told you a story on that, you'd have never heard it.

Are we expecting an update from JT on Wednesday as it's been two weeks since the last update?

37069 is reportedly haunted by a driver who was killed while driving it. Although it seems everytime there's a fatality on or near a railway, there is then a reference to a haunting linked to the accident.

That reminded me of a brilliant thread on the RailUK Forums about railway ghost stories including that one about the Class 37. It's worth having a read, as there's some interesting stuff in it.

    Yes thanks Doomotron

I saw that previously when searching for the Tebay ghost info. I haven't read the whole thread yet. Maybe we should have a railway ghost thread on the TS forums

469!! Glad to see that being one of the new nameplated (is that a word) 47's added with the route. And you are right, the effort they put in to go just that bit further to make the route extra great is amazing, this looks to be a fantastic route!

I wonder if when they update the Blackpool Branches timetable, they'll bring in this 101 instead of using the Tees Valley version? I also hope they give you a few minutes for cab setup, unless there is a shortcut to turn the rear red marker lights on from the front cab?

Be interesting to see what kind of Hellfire spectacle the Pacer can develop, with a standing start from Tebay :o Unfortunately I can't couple to freight wagons with the Pacer.

One of the best features of the Pacer is the sheer simplicity of opening and closing the doors.

If you press Ctrl and + together you will jump to the other cab (the same again to get back) which avoids having to walk down the platform. That's on a keyboard but I assume there's an equivalent on a controller.

I do wonder how we'll be able to guard the 101 as I doubt they had proper guard panels and automatic slam doors back then.

There is a guard buzzer in the guard compartment, just above the guard doors internally.

There is no controller shortcut, you have to run to the other end and back.

But in terms of opening the doors would we (as the guard) have to open every single door manually at a station. Also do we know if guard mode will be for the loco hauled services as well.

Thank you! I'm on a keyboard so, winner! That'll mean I'm not constantly late from running the train length to turn the rear lights on.
