Absolutely, and I take it by your condescending response that you haven’t :)

That may not be the moon... look where the shadow of the handrail is... did you have the flashlight on?

So wanted to say "that's no moon..." :)

    A) the flash light isn’t even that color
    B) I absolutely didn’t have the flash light on
    C) the shadows are literally not the right direction to be from the flash light
    D) there’s no other light in that area
    E) you can literally just go load up SPG your self and see this.
    F) that screenshot was taking with the 3rd person camera

No, but I guess I have to make a video of this now because the peanut gallery is convinced about something they’re too lazy to check themselves. See above reply

Okay in order for us to see what your are seeing, what time was this at in the game and was this a service or did you spawn in(name location).

Guys, he’s right and we all know it. In a number of situations the lighting (particularly at night) is absolutely beggared in TSW, it’s the same on all the DLCs. I’ve got numerous screenshots of this phenomenon...pitch dark night with no moon and the loco is lit up like it’s midday in the height of summer.

Stop trying to pick apart & forensically examine a completely sound observation.

Can't say I've noticed this myself, because I'm usually inside the train, but I believe it. My guess would be that the intensity of the light source for the Moon is the same regardless of phase. The full Moon is quite bright, though perhaps not as bright as this. But you're right, it looks a bit odd when it is a waning crescent.

I might try night runs now, maybe the night is slightly more illuminated now and you can see a little bit further

What I meant is that I've often seen the moon and stars looking that bright away from the curse of night glow that now haunts even small towns in the U.S. Communities around and above the Italy's Val di Chiana offer magnificently bright night skies, as I'm sure do many other places in Italy, but I've spent more time in the province of Arezzo, so I feel confident about describing it with authority.
In the States, I live a few miles outside and a fair distance above the night-glare of Clarksville, Tennessee, where bright moons (yes, even thin crescents, described by Tennessee Williams' Amanda as "a little slipper of a moon" and stars are not uncommon.

I was a trucker for the past 2 years and I’ve been to literally every single state in the US. If the moon lit up the ground like that at night, ever, I’d think something was seriously wrong. At its brightest the moon can be a little surprisingly bright. But it’s not by much

I wonder if this is due to the way they model the sunlight. I did see that before the undersides of hopper and tank cars tended to glow just after sunset because the system did not recognize the earth blocking the sun.
It may be that they model the reflection based upon a full circle (that's what it appears like on your loco shot) and the sliver of moon is just a decal that is not taken into account in the calculations.
Either way you are correct - it is far too bright.

Still better than those night rides with completely black screen, though.

I think we can all agree that DTG are still yet to perfect the various lighting scenes throughout the day.

They don’t use the stock lighting system UE4 offers, but instead they’ve created their own, as well as their own skybox. That’s why the clouds look so poor and 2D looking.

I don’t know the ins and outs of how and what UE4 offers in terms of a full days lighting cycle and weather/clouds but perhaps DTG should invest in a third party skybox from the marketplace instead of trying to create their own?
