Engine room as well? Flipping hell, I feel like I’m being spoiled between the 87, 86, and the TSG E94. Had to wait years for any tap changer to come to TSW and now they’re all coming together :D

JT are teasing you lot until the 26th now.
I expect you've heard there's a small delay on the release date.

    Watching the stream...

... as a driver who drives Preston to Oxenholme, almost every week, several times... i'm pretty impressed with the route already! Instantly recognisable. I can confirm it looks as it is in real life.

(Although Bay Horse Crossover is no longer there these days, but will have been there during the time period).

They seem to have forgotten the long-distance rail shadows.

that might be one of the reasons the route release has been delayed

It seems they added Mk 1 NHA's in the middle of Mk 2 formations to substitute for Buffet cars

Route looks superb on the stream, respect to JT for their attention to detail and the excellent class 87.

Absolutely fantastic. So much detail has gone into the route and I love the variety of workings, it has pretty much everything. The 87 and mark 3's look great and I love the suspension, especially on the class 101.

The only slight downside for me is that they seem to have compiled the layers differently to Blackpool. In Blackpool you can disable the class 40 and 45 individually where with this route it appears you can't.

However, well done to all involved in creating this masterpiece. I can't wait till it is released.

What a route! The detail is incredible and the love and care that’s gone in is easy to see. Setting the benchmark for TS5. If this route doesn’t bring over the (rightly) doubters, I’m not sure what will.

Barton & Broughton, Bay Horse, Lambrigg, Low Gill, Plumpton and Southwaite were all removed from 2007, Lambrigg after the Pendolino crash of that year.
It's a great route and im looking forward to reliving some happy work days!

The cab sway with the 87 was the best I've seen so far in the sim. A very natural, realistic side to side as well as vertical motion. Add to that the incredible sense of speed....epic.
The route obviously top notch as well.
    Again, can't wait.

Im dam excited for this route and cant wait to take control of the 87.

I did find one bug bear with the way JT has modeled neutral section functionality on the 87. the power returns way too quickly after the loco goes over the second magnet. and based on cab ride footage on YouTube shot on various 87's it seams like it should take between 2 and 8 seconds for the power to return after the loco passes the second magnet.

    for example:
this vid () at the 3:50 mark shows an NS with just over 8 seconds delay from second magnet to power return.

this vid () at the 1:47 mark shows an NS with just 4 seconds of delay from second magnet to power return. and in the same vid at the 13:26 mark shows an NS with just 2 seconds of delay from second magnet to power return.

this vid () at the 1:16 mark shows an NS with 6 seconds of delay from second magnet to power return. and in the same vid at the 22:00 mark shows an NS with just 2 seconds of delay from second magnet to power return.

this in no way makes the 87 bad as it wonderful to have the loco modeled so wonderfully with the machine room and all; and to be honest this is a very nit-picky thing to combed over in terms of detail and simulation.

    Absolutely excited for this!!!

One question to the JT team:
In the AP 86EP (not sure if the 87 lack has it as well) there is an option to turn on the tap changer audio so you can hear a nice clicking noise when you operate the tap changer. Is this something that would be included with the 87? Was this something that could be heard by the driver IRL? Many thanks.

I have a question regarding the tap changer. Does it work like in TS, where there are four notches (off, run down, hold and run up) and tapping up or down from the hold position will increase or decrease the power? Or will it be a new system?

Did you notice the lack of superelevation on one of the Clifton and Lowther crossovers? There was quite a jolt in the cab if the loco in the stream as the cant of the track changed quite suddenly.

Well yes albeit the Mark III. Bit of a shame they couldn’t have done a Mark One RMB or RBR to go in the Mark 2 formations rather than subbing in a BG which is just going to look odd.

The BG replaces other brake vehicles so BFK, BSO and stuff, they're in the middle of some rakes as they're diagrams that split.

Loving the route and the authenticity, especially the mixed livery rakes..
I remember in my youth, it used to really, really annoy me when a mixed set turned up, especially if I had the camera ready.
I used to think, "How can someone think that's OK?" :D

Mixed sets are fine, and kind of inevitable during transitional phases - they used to be very common in Germany too. They add add to the variety of the railway.

Fair enough Ben, I remember the old Birmingham to Glasgow/Edinburgh workings which split at Carstairs. Then you had the West Country to Scotland overnight which also conveyed portions for Glasgow and Edinburgh. Remember alighting from that at Carlisle @0400 in the morning, before embarking on a Class 26 adventure on the 0615 to Glasgow via the GSW. Carlisle station at that time on a freezing January morning was not the most hospitable of locations as I couldn’t find a heated waiting room to crash out in for a couple of hours, and the stock for the 0615 didn’t appear from Upperby until nearly train time.

Anyhow hopefully in future your skilled 3D modellers and artists can put some additional Mark Ones in the mix including one or more of the catering vehicles as TSW sorely needs them.

Virtual TSW passengers are poorly served with food and drink. Every loco has a virtual hot plate, while there are no restaurant or buffet carriages on long haul services.

The Class 45 had a toilet from new, although whether or not you would want to use it would be a different matter. I did ask how drivers went to the toilet on long distance runs and the waterworks side is fairly obvious. Let's just say I got a really good description of the procedure for a number 2 and I won't post it here because some of you might be eating, either that or an admin might tell me off.

Mixed sets are spot on for the period, have a look at parcel & newspaper trains of the period you could easily find 3-4 different liveries in there. I'm that old I remember a Southern Stove B at Dover in about 1980 still in Southern Railway livery, albeit very dirty and tatty.

My dad worked on the railways from 1975 to 2000, If they were held at a signal they'd often just exit the cab and pop into a bush (assuming one was next to the loco).

The common one was Pee in a bottle and chuck it out when full, or for number 2, use a bag and chuck it out when done.

You might have been discreet....but I'm like sod it, give the details haha.

That's civilised, the guy I talked to used to carry broadsheet newspapers and would use the newspaper on the floor, wipe up using squares of the same and then wrap the whole lot up in more of the Times and out the window it went. Plus the crosswords kept him amused in loops for hours.

Hi - lovely preview stream. The cab sway/track is out of this world.
One minor thing I've noticed is passing under any bridge/ underpass the cab is not correctly darkening, if this makes sense? It's something from bve days but I think adds massively to the immersion.

After watching the stream and scouring the 87 on the JT page, my only (tiny) gripe is that the brake pipes aren't stowed properly, instead they are just dangling. I know that this is an issue with a lot of TSW stock, but I don't know why they are left like this.

Also if anyone wants to get their reading in before the release, here's a driver's manual for the class 81,85,86 and 87 locos: http://www.locodocs.co.uk/brmanuals/81-85-86-87General-33056-102-1985.htm

I think if there was a 1960 version of this route, it would likely sell quite well. Or a similar period SnC. I know it's very unlikely, but if done to the same standards as the upcoming WCMLOS, that would be awesome.

That didn't answer my question. What I was asking is how the game makes you notch up and down. In TS it's a hacky method of doing it, and I was wondering if it had been copied for TSW.

Would anyone notice a bit more **** added to the articles in some of the papers.

So there he was standing lineside with camera ready waiting for the next loco hauled train, as it passes by and he presses the shutter, a bundle of newspaper suddenly hits him. Turned out to be a LOVE shot.

An excellent cab ride of the real route for those that don't know about Don Coffey's videos (not many I would think).
A modern cab ride, but watching last nights stream compared to this - what an amazing job the folks at JT have done. What an effort.

Yes, I agree, it was really clunky and a bit of a bodge. Watching the live stream they were using a mouse control and it seemed to be working naturally but the crunch test will be how it handles with a keyboard I suppose.

It's similar to like the the cab car that came with the 103, 110 and expert 101. You just move the a and d keys

The N-wagen cab car doesn't work like the 86 or 87. It doesn't have the ability to notch up or down a single time. The 86 and 87 are set up like this:
    Run up
Notch up (springs back to hold)
    Hold
Notch down (springs back to hold)
    Run down
    Off

In TS, the 86 and 87 have hold at 66% IIRC, with run up at 100% obviously and run down at 12% I think. Between them there are the up and down notches, which you can't keep the throttle in because it'll spring back to the hold position. The AP 86 and 87 allow you to hold U and prevent the throttle lever from going into run up or down, making it easier to notch up or down.

    Thoroughly enjoyed the stream.
The 87 lived up to expectations and the plant room was a nice touch (oh to open the engine room doors on the 40/45). The Mk3's was just as impressive although the buffet was missing cans of McEwans everywhere!!

I thought the representation's of Penrith and Carlisle were very nice and pretty accurate for the especially for the era. (Loved the nod to the CKP in the stream before Penrith)

I would have ideally like to see a run north of the citadel to see the castle and Kingmoor (if only to confirm 14mu's existence and sidings! Although the Etterby Street bridge looked to be on the map) but that will keep! Same for Currock and London Road!!
It'll be interesting to see how far the connecting lines go in either direction!! (Nudge nudge, wink wink)

DTG Jamie I believe this was what you were referencing in the stream!!?

Absolute day one purchais as expected. My only critic is that i had the impression of a rather low amount of static stock on the sidings in the preview. Especially when they showed the map. (looks a tiny bit too empty in the yards especially carlisle)

Was wondering during the stream why the Morecambe to Leeds DMU terminated in the bay platform at Lancaster. Not familiar with the local workings but I would’ve thought going via Carnforth (and Skipton) would be more logical direction.

OMG, so many memories came flooding back this week… that “Passengers Must Not Pass” sign at the end of the run was my binocular stand for watching stuff on the avoiding line, the BRUTEs cluttering up each station along the route, Upperby yard, Penrith Castle, the Lune Gorge, Tebay, Hardendale, Carnforth, Hest Bank (yes, *that* sign on the M6!)… absolutely chuffed to bits with how this route looks. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.
